Everything needs to be glass, if it can’t be glass it needs to be ceramic, if it can’t be ceramic it needs to be wood, if it can’t be wood it needs to be stainless steel, if it can’t be stainless steel it needs to be stone, if it can’t be stone it needs to be glass

This advertisement is for The River Has Roots, the solo debut of Amal El-Mohtar, co-author of This Is How You Lose the Time War.
The River Has Roots interior illustrations by Kathleen Neeley
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Sisters Esther and Ysabel Hawthorn tend and harvest the enchanted willows that grow on their land at the border of Faerie and the mundane world. The sisters honor an ancient compact to sing to the willows as thanks for their magic, and they cherish each other as much as they cherish their trees.
But when Esther rejects a suitor in favor of a lover from Faerie, she places their sisterly bond and their very lives in peril. Follow the river Liss to the small town of Thistleford, on the edge of Faerie, and meet two sisters who cannot be separated, even in death.

I was assigned fire at birth Or so the star mappers say And I can identify with that With the colors, the heat Fire is a passion, yes, I am that
Water I've always envisioned As quiet, calm, serene But I met water as a flash flood There were never any warnings
I swam without being doused How is that possible? But it's something I've never Known since, water is wet after all
I can relate to earth, to air In fact, these elements speak to me More than fire or water have So I've belonged to both of them
Fire and water though How steamy we were together You'd think we would have clashed But we were purple, complementary
Time is the only element I've been seen with these days Water, at the end of it all My body consists mostly of you Which is really quite an apt metaphor

On November 7, 2024, Denmark used a racist, culturally biased "parenting competency" test to remove a 2 hour old baby, Zammi, from her loving indigenous Greenlandic Inuit mother, Keira, because her native language, which uses minute facial expressions to communicate, will not be able to "[prepare] the child for the social expectations and codes that are necessary to navigate in Danish society." This test had been recommended not to be used at the federal level before this happened but certain municipalities, including the one this happened in, chose to continue to use it regardless. Not only is this blatantly racist but also violates multiple declarations and conventions that Denmark has signed that protect the rights of indigenous people.
Please sign this petition to help Keira to get her baby back.

It would already be lifechanging if grendan highforge were a nonbinary fat hairy pronouns-having femme but the fact that they were a cis male created by a cis male and we then watched her discover himself and organically transition thru the story into a nonbinary fat hairy pronouns-having femme. Amen
