we also need to discuss how nico stans demonize the 7 (especially leo and jason) for essentially Thought Crimes.

jason and leo NEVER wanted to leave him to die, they were reasonably suspicious because nico was OBJECTIVELY shady as hell with seemingly no real loyalties to anyone or anything which is DANGEROUS. plus, yknow, they were on a time crunch to SAVE THE WORLD?

and the supposed “shade” or “hate” everyone threw nico? narration only. in ACTION they tried to make him feel welcome as best they could while dealing with the fact that two of their friends (and very important quest mates fated to save the world mins you) were currently in super hell. NICO avoided THEM to the point of rejecting a room to sleep in the ropes.

hazel herself (who you all only acknowledge as a benchmark to compare nico lovers and never her own character) tells frank that she’s grateful he’s trying to be nice to nico because he doesn’t make it easy and is hard to get along with. PLEASE read the books and stop relying on memory and biased post from 10 years ago

a thing about why it doesnt make sense for Annabeth to be surprised about Percy being smart - literally one of the first things about her character that's established is that she pushes against stereotypes or expectations of what "smart" looks like. She very actively acknowledges that people who look like her (because yes, in the early 2000s the "dumb blonde" concept was still a thing women dealt with irl and a popular topic [see: Legally Blonde], even if it's weird to consider nowadays) or are generally like her are often more likely to be underestimated or looked down upon. She literally uses this to trick people multiple times!

She knows Percy is disabled in the same ways she is, and is vocally looked down upon by the people around him particularly regarding his intelligence (particularly regarding his disabilities). Based on her personal beliefs that are established from the get-go, particularly once she gets to know Percy and sees his intelligence in action, there is negative reason why she should be surprised by Percy's show of wits.

in fact, it's kind of a defining aspect of their dynamic that they are on the same level as each other and are some of the few people who are able to keep up with each other. They are the same level of witty and smart and quick-thinkers and strategists! It's literally just that Annabeth leans more book-smart and Percy leans more people-smart. That's it! And even that is not a strict dichotomy between them!
