I dont think tumblr will shut down. It may go the "twitter way", it may get worse service, worse moderation (EVEN WORSE YES), and worse support and worse performance.

But it wont suddenly shut down forever. Outages will be longer and more frequent but thats it.

Now, the wafrn propaganda I promised: if you care about a social media that doesn't overtarget the baning of trans people, you should give wafrn a try.

The announcement no one asked for: I'm more active on the Fediverse

I think I already talked about this before. I'm not moving from Tumblr yet because most of my favorite artists are either here or Instagram. Not their fault, honestly, those are the two main SNS for art portfolio and networking when you're an artist for what I've seen.

Since I live and thrive on nice artwork, I'm not deleting my account, but I've seen the posts about this site getting worse and worse. I'm not sure if it's “just fear mongering” or valid stuff, but, either way, I feel like sharing that:

I use Wafrn as my “Tumblr alternative”, posts in English, all that jazz;

I use my Capivarinha account like Twitter, many posts, mainly in Portuguese.

(only giving my users to people who send me a DM, for safety reasons)

I understand that some people are still intimidated by the Fediverse, but I ask you to give it a try. Really.

I don't know anywhere else to go. I used to be kinda happy whenever a new SNS released because I loved testing new features, but, working as a Business Data Analyst and studying more about data collecting and stuff, those things are so tiring!!!

I just… don't know anymore. Fedi at least allows me to move my account in case a server closes down. If Tumblr closes down, everything here dies.

The culture is not amazing anymore (no shade to anyone, I'm not saying everyone is trash here, but please don't try to say this place is nice all the time), but we had beautiful moments, art, creators, theories, fanfics, all the stuff!!! And, if it closes down, it dies.

I don't want to see this place closing down, but I know this will happen someday.

may i take advantage of the current state of tumblr to suggest that you all learn how RSS works? please? please learn what RSS feeds are and get a feed reader for me please? and then if everyone scatters to reasonable sites that autogenerate feeds or if everyone makes their own feed by hand, you wont have to check fiftyleven sites to see what everyone is up to?
