Kate, who followed her from the elevator, sits down with less dramatic flair. “Oh, yeah, but it sounds fun, right?” Yelena blinks, once, then looks at Kate with a frown. “Fun? Baking?” And then, after a second of thought, she laughs uproariously. “Us? Can you imagine? Oh this is going to be so bad, you don't even know.” Kate's mouth does a funny little quirk, one she recognizes as stifling amusement. “It won't be all that bad. The crew’s here to make you guys look good!” A headache, one that always formed when Valentina came around, begins to knock at her temples right on cue. “No, really. This will…” she sighs. This will do so much. It will make them look silly, ridiculous even, they will lose some of their intimidating edge, and, most importantly, they'll look stupid. “Aprons, Kate Bishop? Cakes? The stupid music?”

“I’m not crazy though, right? Like O.X.E Group…Oscorp! They sound so similar! I can't be the only one who gets them confused.”

Kate can't help it that this is the first thing she thought of when she woke up. Well not the first thing, the first thing was Yelena’s hand on her lower back tracing various shapes, but this thought was a very close second.

Still, when she’s met with silence, Kate rolls over onto her back and turns her head to see Yelena watching her. Yelena, with her hair a little mussed up and her eyes blinking slowly, is just grinning at her. “What?”

“You are so weird.”

Kate huffs, “I’m weird? You broke into a corner market last night because they’re the only ones who carry that sauce you like.”

“I left money on the counter for it.” Yelena sends back with a touch of indignance in her voice. “Besides, Miguel likes me, he’ll know it was me and he’ll smile when he sees the money.”

“Uh huh, only you would make friends with someone you steal from.”

Yelena shifts then, bringing their faces even closer together. Under the covers, she puts her hand on Kate’s hip and squeezes just a little. “It is not stealing. I do not steal.”

Kate raises a brow, a tiny smirk threatening to escape. “Wasn’t your whole thing before The New Avengers that you were stealing for your weirdly hot boss lady.”

“She is not my boss.” Yelena cringes. “If anything, I am her boss now.”

“My point still stands.”

There’s no response just yet, Yelena simply eyeing her, as she does so often. Each time, Kate just lets her. She will never not enjoy the way Yelena studies her - watches her like she might be able to read Kate’s mind if she tries hard enough. “Let us go back to your previous question, about the O.X.E and Oscorp of it all.”

It’s a deflection, but dammit it works. “It’s just weird! Who names their company with the letter O? Then two extremely shady companies do it and we’re not supposed to think they’re in collusion with each other?”

Yelena hums, the hand on Kate’s hip lifting just enough that her fingers brush along the skin - making Kate shiver. “Well you certainly were a fan of the letter O last night, after I gave you not one but two org-”

“Okay, that’s - we’re good, you don’t…don’t finish that sentence because we have to get up soon and if you do I won’t be able to not…”

“Fuck me like you did last night?”

“Yelena!”

It reminds her of the moment following jumping off a building with her tether. Eyes closed, heart racing — and before she’s caught and anchored and reassured of her safety there is the half second of flying, of being pulled to the Earth. It feels similar enough here, captured and crystallized in that moment with Kate Bishop. Which begs the next question — will she experience it again?

Barton gives a light chuckle from his seat. He's texting the world's slowest message, using the ‘hunt n peck’ method of searching for the letters. “You got it.” Kate begins pacing again. “Do I got it? This isn't ‘got it’ style waiting.” Clint blows out a noisy exhale. “Well if you sit and find something else to do you'll see the time passes much faster.” So, Kate does just that. She sits. She pulls out her phone and scrolls through various social medias, but it's not in any way slow enough to actually absorb anything. She stows her phone and plucks at a stray thread on her shirt. She sighs and looks around the room, vaguely catalogues the boring and quiet atmosphere. She sighs again. She peers over Clint’s shoulder and sees he's texting his wife very slowly. She mentally tries to complete the sentence he's typing, succeeds with a smirk and then taps her hands against her legs. Clint sighs and darkens his screen after hitting send. “Kid, you're going to drive me nuts.”

No heroics, Kate Bishop.” “Can’t make any promises,” Kate says, blasé enough to cause Yelena’s heart rate to spike, unpleasant and sudden. She only just refrains from gripping Kate by her collar again, this time far less gently.
