At some point I realized that it was fine to dislike things that I knew were good, and like things that I knew were of poor quality, and I found it immensely freeing. Among other things, it made me take it a lot less personally when someone didn't like something I made.
Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".
You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.
#i'm not saying 'good' and 'poor quality' are objective#just that they're at least somewhat orthogonal to whether or not I'll like a thing#some things just aren't for me no matter how good#and some things very much are even if they are kind of crappy

I wrote a song about getting my cat's claws trimmed, to the tune of 'Tonight You Belong To Me'.
#cats of tumblr#song#tonight you belong to me#I was so preoccupied with wondering if I could that I didn't ask if I should#Youtube

"Punishment works!!!" We're drowning in three to four generations of people so pants-shittingly terrified of ever being wrong that half of everyone has constructed a worldview wherein they never even consider the possibility that they could be wrong and the other half behaves like one wrong move will make anything or anyone explode violently into a million irreperable pieces. I don't think it works guys

This was bad enough in a writing group I was in that it came to be referred to as "the obligatory explanation for why what I'm about to read sucks." Putting it into words made it seem a lot sillier, and I feel like we did it a lot less after we named it, which was all to the good.
you'll get the urge as an artist or a writer to say out loud the things you're worried about "the proportions are off" "kind of out of character" "i'm not good at summaries" "didn't get as much detail as i wanted" "i made a mistake and here's how" and that's the self-conscious part of your brain telling you "it's bad and if you don't tell them you know it's bad then they'll think you're stupid" but you've got to ignore that little voice and pretend you think it's good or else that little voice is going to ruin your life

after all this time... i'm finally brave enough to make a post on tumblr...!
✦ hi! i'm robin! i wear a lot of hats, but currently i'm a postgrad student researcher, a freelance artist, and an occasional vendor at local artists' markets and conventions here in australia :)
✦ i love ttrpg actual play shows and podcasts! my favourites are worlds beyond number, burnt cook book party, dimension 20 (especially fantasy high) and naddpod (especially eldermourne)
✦ other media i'm into includes severance, knives out, the locked tomb, zero escape, ace attorney, game changer and splatoon. and my ocs/personal projects which may eventually leak onto this blog too :)
✦ i like sharks. and most aquatic life but especially sharks. you are always allowed to send me a cool shark
✦ i'm a busy guy and probably won't be super active here but who knows! you can find me under the same username on instagram (most active currently), bluesky, and twitter (for now)

Uh, I don't think this is in the spirit of the thread, so I'll go ahead and put it behind a spoiler:
Dan McCoy of the Flop House podcast once said that he accidentally made himself sad by reflecting that, if he were somehow reduced to the size of a mouse, his cat would 100% kill and eat him. Every once in a while I think about this, and it makes me sad too. (But in a funny way?)
you know how people say that cats and dogs don’t feel love the way humans do but it’s like. “oh they don’t love you they just associate you with warmth and safety and seek out your company and being near you and spending time with you makes them feel comfortable and secure” bro if that’s not love then what the FUCK do you think love is???

I reblogged one piece of Life is Strange art the other day and now Tumblr is pretty sure that that's all I want to see. I feel like I am making good life choices.

I drew this with a fever 😄

I know that realistically you can only fit so many movies into a list of approximately 100, but I cannot take that "How many of tumblr's favorite movies have you seen?" list that's been going around seriously because there are some truly egregious omissions.
Some of it is very clearly recency bias, which makes me wonder if the op truly wasn't on here in 2013 or so, but you're telling me you made a list of "tumblr's favorite movies" that doesn't include Pacific Rim or Mad Max: Fury Road? Because, like, I was there, Gandalf.
#50/100#the normal distribution makes me think the OP did a good job#also I don't think I had even heard of the Much Ado About Nothing with David Tennant and Catherine Tate and now I have to see it

I participated in a readthrough of Julius Caesar last Saturday and it was really fun! (I played Casca, slow on the uptake but fast with a knife, a strong candidate for 43 BC's 'most likely to accidentally invite a journalist to the group chat' award.) If that sounds fun to you, then check out the discord!
Announcement: We're Moving!
Well, our reading space is.
Since Skype is closing down in May, we're going to get ahead of the curve (for once) and make the official move to discord starting with our April play. Please be patient with us as there are bound to be a few bumps in the road, and if you have any improvement suggestions over the next months, please share them!
Discord invite link is above and will be added to the pinned post. Expect April's signup in the next day or so. Last but certainly not least, thanks to all our Shakespeeps for being amazing!

"I don't see Glorihan, I just see me."
I have been binging @bcbparty these last few weeks and OH MAN what a good actual play podcast! Love the lore, love how damn silly these characters are, love how messed up it gets at times:-))
Argh! I could talk about this podcast for hours but I WON'T because I'm only on ep 41... for now...

when i was a kid my Getting To Sleep technique was visualizing a child-sized shriveled up mummy with big piercing eyes that would stand silhouetted in the doorway & stare at me & probably attack if i so much as opened my eyes after getting into bed & this technique caused me to develop a lifelong nighttime-induced paranoia & it still takes me 2 hours to fall asleep. so i wouldnt recommend that
