“Half the world and infinite adventures!” Andy announced soon after. It was easier to think positively, to add to their journey so that it really would never come to an end. Andy had already lost her parents … the universe couldn’t possibly take Jacob away from her too, could it? “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” The question emitted with excitement mixed into every word. Infinite adventures – yeah, they still had little forever moments to go.”One of us pretends they can’t find the ticket while the other ‘goes ahead to get the popcorn’.” quotation marks added with her hands.

the way she spoke of their future adventures made jacob feel invincible. perhaps it was the enthusiam behind every word out of her mouth or perhaps it was the quick feeling of reassurance that their story was far from being over, that andy would always be right next to him. whether that feeling was shortlived or not, it still brought a well known comfort to jacob nonetheless. “most definietly,” the later syllables of the last word were dragged out in dramatic affect to show they were, as always, on the same wavelength. “you know what else i’m thinking? that this plan would have been great to use those 3D glasses i hoarded in the back seat of my car for years. should’ve never thrown those things out. i knew they’d come in handy eventually.”

Chris had blamed Jacob for Andy’s travel kick. Of course, part of him had known that was wrong, that there was more of a chance it’d been the other way around, even. All he’d seen was an image of his little sister and Jacob leaving Treeville behind. It’d seemed to stick with him. Now, this revelation wasn’t something Chris had come up with yet, but it was something that was peeking through his thoughts the more Jacob and Andy both spent in Treeville. Soon, he really wouldn’t have a reason to dislike the boy in front of him — not that he ever truly did. “I think I have an album in the truck.” Leave it to Chris to still carry around CDs. “if he was on the show there must’ve been a lot of country auditions?”

once again, jacob could nearly have choked on the milkshake he was sipping at. the last thing he had expected from a spontaneous run in lunch with chris was an extended hang out. at first it had even seemed the older herrison hadn’t of wanted to sit down with jacob whatsoever, as per usual though. now, it seemed the one thing that would bring them together was also the exact same thing that had brought jacob and leo together: music. “is it your favorite album?” he couldn’t have not asked that, seriously. “must have been. there could have even been a two step in there if i’m not mixing up a dance show that i remember seeing one time.”

Chris’ nod came slowly after Jacob’s. Almost like he had trouble processing the conversation in front of him. It was comical really, how his conversations with Jacob almost always seemed to have a pause for silence in them. “We’re going to have to change that.” Chris wasn’t even aware of it, but this was the first time he’d been the one to make plans for them. “Can’t say I watched the show, but I believe you.”

shocked would be quite the understatement to describe jake’s thought as soon as the future prospect of the two of them spending more time together willingly came out of chris’ mouth. he could have nearly asked chris to pinch him to solidify that he was awake and not dreaming this whole thing up. “yeah-” he responded almost too eagerly before clearing his throat as if to cover up the all too positive reaction, “i mean, yeah, cool. cool. cool. oh man, the show is sick, my sister and brother used to watch it all the time but i haven’t seen it in awhile 'cause they barely watch it anymore so we’re all not really keepin’ up. but it was big when he was on it.”

Vivian could see why Jacob and Leo got along so well. It wasn’t just the age range that kept them together, but they way they both seemed to truly listen in a conversation, there was genuine care for others. For friendships. Pointed nails ran along the table while Vivian pretended to ponder the request. “I suppose I can let you guys borrow mine. She is the best. That is — depending on how good the proposal is,” the area around her nose scrunched in as Vivian made a face at the idea, “Leo deserves an all out proposal,”

intrigue immediately shone all over his features with the talk of vivian’s wedding planning. so she was starting to plan it all. if christmas she gaves out boats and cars what could she be planning for her wedding? “oh of course it all weighs on the proposal. i’ve got a ton of ideas. here me out– i’m thinkin’ either one of those smash places you go to smash all your anger out on random shit and like one of the things we smash could have a ring inside. or-or how ‘bout at burning man? or like the thunder down under show in vegas ‘cause like our song is down under and it’d be a funny twist on words. get it?”

Andy’s feet worked to carry her a the same pace Jacob was moving. She had years of practice, they’ve been running behind and at each other’s sides since they met. And hearing Jacob’s words now had her hopeful that was never going to change. “No one will be able to slow us down,” a nod came in agreement. Andy stepped inside the car, quickly taking her passenger seat. Her mind focused on the snack quest when Jacob was by her side again. “You think the movie theater will give us popcorn if we don’t buy a ticket?”

her words rang truth, as they always would. jacob couldn’t even imagine a day he wouldn’t have andy at his side. it was a thought more painful to bring up than anything else. “they better not. we still got half the world to see.” jake called out as he slid into his drivers side and immediately went to connect the bluetooth of the car to his phone for the song to start. or more likely be played on repeat. “that sounds like you’re challenging me to it.”

“Maybe that is it,” Vivian replied truthfully. Her own playful tone hiding just how on the nose his words actually had been. It was no secret to those around her how much Vivian liked control - the fact that Jacob had figured it out, jokingly or not - was interesting. “Well, if you think about it,” She started, losing all the joking in her words this time, “if you two get married now you still have a chance of being each other’s first husbands?”

was it wrong for jacob to have a sense of pride that vivian actually agreed with him? or slightly agreed? or at least enabled his response to her. the consensus surrounding vivian truly seemed to be positive, from what he had seen, but there was no denying the air of authority that came with her when she entered a room. the fading of her joking tone had jake leaning forward in his seat before a lopsided grin took over his features. “i like the way you think, trons. can you find us the best wedding planner in the business?”

Many emotions took home upon Chris’ face when he heard Jacob’s words. It’d been uttered so suddenly that Chris hadn’t managed to make the connection, that it was a song title, up until Jacob pointed it out. By then confusion, discomfort and annoyance had all taken a turn. “Is that the only shelton song you know?” At least he was true to himself, this was probably the most Jacob thing Chris should have expected.

the look on chris’ face couldn’t be missed from six hundred miles away, probably, even by jacob himself who managed to miss just about everything. clearing his throat to stall his response, he gave him a quick nod of his head. “yeah... i never really listented to a lot of country. the most i know of blake shelton is that he was a judge on the voice, right?”

Andy let her hand fall from the headphone when the sound of a more acoustic guitar began to fill the space. She didn’t have to be looking into a mirror to feel the way her smile widened. She was prouder of Jacob than she knew how to express. She always would be. “It’s goo- a what?” Despite her question and the fact that she had no idea what Jacob was talking about Andy didn’t hesitate to take his outstretched hand and follow his lead to her own feet. “we really don’t know how to sit still,” she mused.

once her hand found his own jake was unstoppable, almost in too much of a hurry to make it out to the garage and into the car where they could “properly”, in his eyes, experience the music. “we don’t, but listen, it’s all good ‘cause it means we’ll live with more energy, y’know? that’s a good thing, right? it also means you get to pick where we stop for snacks today.” the only time jake let go of her hand was to get the car door open for her and to make his way around to the drivers side himself.

“You know I would never!” That much was true. It’d remained the truth since the two of them met. Andy wasn’t a liar, and it wasn’t even something she could imagine doing to Jacob of all people. Not just because he knew her well enough to not believe her if she did, but because there was no need to hide what she was really thinking around him. Her hands reached to hold the earphones closer to her ear when Jacob moved to switch the song. An eager smile let him know to go ahead.

his gaze briefly flickered up to meets hers in one of their infinite acts of “non intimate” intimacy as a smile crept onto his features and he was already switching the song for her. “should i turn it up or can you hear it good? you know what, we should go for a pch drive so you get the full effect.” and with that, jake was already rising to his feet and letting a hand extent towards her to pull andy right behind him.

“This is one of those times I really which I understood the references coming out of your mouth.”Chris, once again, looked at Jacob across from him with furrowed brows. “I’m not sure I’ve ever listened to either of those but - Blake Shelton would be mine.” Country. No surprise there. He reached out to grab his water, to drink and to buy himself some time before he figured out if he was meant to explain his response or not. He doubted he had anything close to what Jacob just spilled to say.

“kiss my country ass,” jake let out with a laugh almost too quickly before realizing the one song by blake shelton he did know was probably the least appropriate to be acknowledging in a diner to chris. “that’s the- the song,” was his attempt at a saving grace before he was sitting up straighter in his seat and hoping that moment didn’t constitute to something horribly going wrong.

“I didn’t realize there were rules when it came to having lunch with you.” Vivian’s eyebrow raised in surprise but whether Jacob knew it or not, his question had sparked her interest. “hmm,” Enough to have a soft hum emit from her lips as she pondered the question. “Would it feel like a cop-out if I said it was fairly local?” Then she shrugged as if she’d already made up her mind that would be her answer. “Gotta support my first husband and all.”

“or maybe it’s the first time you didn’t make the rules?” his finger raised to point towards the blonde in retaliation though the way his voice raised in octave at the end of his sentence couldn’t be missed. the last person he would want to provoke was vivian trons, or at least she was a close second to chris herrison. “touché,” jake countered with a nod of his head and then raised his brow at her. “i feel sorta obligated to just let you know that i feel robbed of the fact that i don’t get him as my first husband but i mean, the boat does make up for it.”

“Jay, this is really good.” Andy pressed the headphone against her ear in order to keep the sound close. To give her a chance to really listen to every instrument in the back. “Not that I’m surprised. You guys kill it live but this - hearing it through headphones - I don’t know, it just makes it feel more real y’know?” She smiled up at her best friend for what felt like the hundredth time since the song started.

“you’re not lyin’ to me are you?” jake asked with a wide grin, already knowing the honest answer to that question. andy could barely muster a lie if her life nearly depended on it, and it was one of the several long lists of things he absolutely adored about her. “wait, wait, you gotta hear the acoustic version again.” without a moment of hesitation, jake was eagerly reaching for the phone that was between them to start playing the song in question again.

“I was already planning on it,” Andy offered up a shrug all before the feeling of Jacob’s arm around her had her laughing in response. A playful push to his chest but there was really no attempt to get him to move away. “Ew, you’re all sweaty.” Not like this had been the first time. “You should throw taking a shower in that plan of yours.” The playful words were just meant to tease. “She’s not an alien, Jay! Who would say no to in n out?”

both his hands dropped to his sides in a dramatic act of giving up. “well, then it’s decided. we’ve gotta now.” keeping up with usual jake fashion, the act didn’t last long and he was laughing again. “hey, you love it.” now his grip tightened to bring her as close as possible in order for him to plant a loud kiss to the top of her head before releasing her from the hold. “an alien? could ya imagine. y’think an alien would actually dress as good as her though?”
