Jia felt like death itself, she had been up all night with work and ended up having to stay until seven in the morning to do a full count of the alcohol in the bar, so know as she swung open the door to Vanilla she had completely blanked on her usual order. She stood there on auto pilot before "Oh...uh honestly, I can't even remember what I usually get I think my brain has officially crapped out." Leaning over the pastry case her eyebrows furrowed. "It all looks so good...Anything you had fun making? Oooh, but I do need a coffee, do you do that here?"

She serves the patrons as he speaks listening as best she can through the orders and the beginning of another song, this time thankfully the singer was generally talented, at least enough to be turned into background noise. "I just think it would be less chaotic, we still have people joining the the list...No one's gonna think we're exclusive, our regulars are dads running from their home life and during this season? A bunch of-." She cuts herself short as the customers finally come to collect their drinks, giving her best pleasant smile turns her head to Leo. "A bunch of rich kids running here for the winter break, all they do is ski and drink."
Jia overexaggerates her thinking face, itching at the side of her head before responding. "Depends, I mean this morning it was um...fuck I think it was Bam Yang Gang by a south korean artist named Bibi, it's such a sweet little song."
"If I start cutting people out tonight, we might have a riot on our hands!" He pocketed the bag of m&m's he'd been snacking on and joined Jia behind the counter as another group approached the bar. The wave of tourists coming through for the winter season had certainly upped their crowd numbers recently and, in his experience, would remain steady throughout December. Especially on Karaoke nights. "But you're right. Maybe we can try it out next week, see how it goes. Hopefully people don't think we've gone exclusive."
The group's orders were easy enough, a couple of mixed drinks with a side of shots. As he grabbed the tequila, he let Jia handle the drinks."What's your go-to song for karaoke?' he asked her, "Everyone's got one they keep in their back pocket."

Rolling her eyes, Jia started to tidy up her station. "All money was someone else's before its yours, that just simple logic." Letting out a chuckle she paused before shaking her head. "I'm on the clock Leo, I'm stuck behind this bar until closing, guess you're just gonna have to do it alone." Twiddling with a ring on her index finger she shrugged. "Depends whats playing on my phone, sometimes Journey, sometimes Hozier, what about you?"
Leo snorts, "am I gonna get up there? What-- you're gonna pay off the money-- my money that I'm tipping you with, to have me go up there and sing? I don't know Jia. Then we'd both have to get up there and sing, it's only fair."
"What's your go-to in the shower?"

As leo leans over the bar she instinctively leans in as well, before a large laugh escapes and she shakes her head. "God no, I don't sing in a public bar, purely a shower or stadium singer." Hearing a shout for a budlight she pulls one out and passes it to another customer, taking the cash she continues with the work load before turning back to Leo. "You gonna get up there at all tonight? Cause I would honestly pay good money to see that."
After a unsuccessful communicative call to Jia, a regular employee to him, as he is regular customer to her. The loud chaotic environment could be a a lot for anyone. Leo wasn't alone though, he was with a few of his inner circles, but Leo being Leo couldn't help himself to want to make sure no one felt alone in the space, whether it be customer or employee.
Leo gestures closer to Jia, he leans over slightly, "I said, I know you want to get in on the fun too, or are you gonna pretend otherwise?" He basically shouts near her ear.

An easy order, 'just a draft sweetie' . Another regular he didn't even have to clarify the actual brand of beer before Jia was pouring his regular. He's gone before Leo speaks again, giving her some time to clean the small metal shelf on the inside of the bar. "Way to ruin a classic, the guy could hardly step off the stage without looking like he's gonna hurl." its quiet and lighthearted, not wanting to be overheard by patrons before she shrugs. "Leo, the sign up sheet ended up longer than my arm tonight, and I'm sure at least half of them aren't as fucked as him." Returning a wave to the next performer she turns her back to the rest of the bar facing him. "Do you think we'll ever put a cap on the list?"
"To be fair, that song is a classic!" Leonardo couldn't help but to interject. It was well into the evening, liquid courage emboldening each new singer that stepped up to the mic to put on a better performance than the one before. He watched the overzealous singer belt their way through I'm still Standing as Jia attended to the patron at the counter. Did Elton John warrant such passion? Maybe, maybe not- but he had to admire the dedication. So much so that when the song ended, he joined the rest of the crowd in applause. As the stage readied for the next person he turned to Jia, "Hate to be the person that follows that, am I right?"

As the song came to a natural end Jia began muddling the mint for the mojito, giving a nonchalant smile before shrugging. "They're all so into it...I mean confidence aside, being drunk and singing live is never an enjoyable combo for the sober among us." Movements are smooth and calculated as she makes Khadija her drink adding the, in her eyes, perfect mint leaf to the top of the glass. Dropping a sip into her mouth through an extra little black straw she deemed it worthy to go out placing it onto the coaster she leaned back, enjoying the lull in guests at the bar. "Have you been out and about all day Dija?"
How could she forget Thursday was Karaoke Night? Khadija all but sighed when the off-key singing first registered. She even stopped to consider going home, but that idea made her stomach churn worse after an entire day trapped inside, so she soldiered up to the bar to order a mojito. Or she tried anyway. "A MOJITO!" she yelled back at Jia over the music, chuckling a bit and trying to play nice. "It's cool they're getting into it." Then, realizing she probably wasn't loud enough. "I MEAN, IT'S COOL THEY'RE GETTING SO INTO IT!"

Nodding along to the beat she started on mixing the drink, throwing some ice in a blender before laughing at Kaia's comment. "The sign up sheet is longer than my arm tonight...for the most part they aren't horrible." Mixing Kaia's drink is like second nature for Jia making sure to pluck all the small seeds from the jalapeno's flesh. "If we had requirements we'd lose half the list. Here ya go." Passing the drink over the bar she leaned on the wood tilting her head. "What's got you here on a thursday anyways?" Instinctually she clapped at the end of the patron's song, silently praying that he wasn't up again for the rest of the night.

surprisingly , it was the first time kaia had made it to karaoke night . one of her employees had invited her & she felt obligated to be the nice boss and attend . smiling at the bartender , kaia tried to request a spicy margarita - until realizing she wasn't heard over the sound of a screachy voice on the mic . “ a spicy marg , please ! ” she said , in a louder voice . “ there should definitely be a requirement for who can sing up there. ” kaia joked , letting out a laugh . although she said it in a joking tone , the brunette was fully supportive of that idea .

Thursdays were always busy, for however long any current employee could remember, Thursdays were always packed with the karaoke crowds and it usually made it harder for Jia to even hear herself think let alone a non-scream singing customer. "Oh I'm sorry but you're gonna have to repeat that!" Jia beams as she sets a coaster in front of the patron. " I promise not everyone is so enthusiastic while on stage."

( Yuqi Song, ciswoman, she/her) ⎯ Jia Zhang has been a resident of roseton for fourteen years . around the town , the twenty-four year old bartender has been given the nickname, angel . i think it's because they are helpful , but also argumentative . echo is said to know redacted ! [ mixed metal rings adorning both hands, crumbled cigarettes in a pack, leaving your makeup on overnight and rocking it the next morning ]
Basics
full name: Jia Zhang
nicknames: jiabobia, angel
age: 24
pronouns: she/her
sexuality: bisexual
sun sign: Capricorn
occupation: bartender
workplace: Roseton Revenge
History
Born in Arlington Virigina, Jia was the youngest of three and the first daughter to the Zhangs. She had always been a smiley baby and her mother would call her angel from then on, always saying it was easier with her than her brothers but in reality there wasn't much of a difference between the three siblings, and that never really changed. Joined at the hip, they enjoyed almost a decade as a family of five in Arlington. Things change though, Mr. Zhang got a job offer working at the Mayor's office in Roseton and since her mother was a nurse and could get a job at the local hospital they moved up the coast when Jia was only ten years old.
For the most part the last 14 years had been uneventful until her father was accused of a hit and run that tragically led to the death of one of Jia's classmates, when first interviewed she said she couldn't remember what had happened on the night in question, not able to maintain her father's claim that he was helping her with statistics homework, but randomly a month before the case was set to go to trail, she recanted her statement, instead forcefully stating that her dad was with the family all night, no matter if he had come home so late in the night that everyone but Jia was asleep, the young girl would often stay up late revising her homework and playing old movies on the family t.v set.
