after Newt was strapped to that chair at the end of pacific rim uprising i don't think anyone would be caring about his hygiene and personal grooming, they're probably only feeding him enough cafeteria slop to keep him alive, and so his beard starts to grow out and his hair gets a little long in the back and hermann is seeing the man he loves change before his eyes, and one day during his "research" (see, yearning and suffering) visits he notices newt keeps moving his head in a weird way and hermann asks what's wrong and newt is forced to say his beard itches and he cant do any fucking thing about it and hermann sheepishly asks if he would like for him to scratch it and newt has to choose between his comfort and his dignity but well he's been strapped to a chair for weeks already, at this point he has neither of both so at least if he can get some relief he will take it. hermann asks where he should scratch and newt reluctantly offers up his cheek but once hermann finds the spot he's nuzzling like a goddamn cat and it's by far the most awkward interaction that's happened in maybe both of their lives but its also the most human newt has seemed in all this time and a reminder that whatever the precursors say and do in that body there's still a person there. the next day hermann comes in with a razor, shaving cream, a towel and a wash basin, he doesn't even ask for permission he just shows up with them and with his expression dares the security guard to stop him (they don't), so he enters and wordlessly starts to shave newt who is both extremely embarrassed and deeply grateful. he doesn't say thank you, of course he wouldn't, but hermann didn't expect him to anyways

Official sign-ups are now open for the 2025 Newmann Big Bang! This fan folks is for folks who would want to participate in a fandom big bang dedicated to Newt/Hermann, the pairing from the ever classic film Pacific Rim (2013). The only restriction is that works for this should focus on the relationship between these two characters as a primary or major focus- romantic, sexual, and platonic interpretations are all allowed as well as any combination of the three. What is a Big Bang? You can find a good overview on fanlore here. The short of it is, it's an event to create a flurry of new content for a fandom by pairing writers and artists together to create something wonderful. The first step is for fic writers to create fanfictions related to the topic and then pair them up with artists who create artwork for the piece. Typically, these are longer works and the entire process takes several months from start to finish.
