My animation of the waves that I was doing. I was hoping it would loop so that I would have room to edit it when I compile all the animations together. It’s not finished as we were told to leave the college due to the corona virus.

I’m not sure if I’m supposed to finish it, to be honest with you.

I finished the part of the fish animation. I thought I’d wait till I animated the waves so that I’d know where to put the shadows as the contours would follow that of the waves, which change with every frame.

I stared at this video to find out how to draw waves lapping

Some images I used as references to how the studio draws waves, water, and fish. I colour picked all of the colours I used to try and match the animation style as close as possible.

I marked out the trajectory of the fish and separate the parts of the poster into different layers. I recreated the background as well as the logo.

For my Animation project I decided to use the Ponyo poster to animate. I’m going to make the character look up and move the bubble, animate the waves and then make 3 fish jump up out of the water and fall back in.

I was looking at the animation in Cuphead and Mugman to see how the stationary background can work with moving figures in the front.

There’s minimal animation in the background but I will also take inspiration from the moving parts to give the illusion of life.

I was looking at Egoraptor as an example of squash and stretch as he is notorious for using and exaggerating the technique.

Reference

This music video is a big inspiration for my project. 

You can see the inspiration I took for my character of President Kim. I also used a photograph in the background of some of my scenes like this music video.

Some backgrounds for the project. I used a photograph of a galaxy instead of painting the space because I thought it would look visually interesting. 

I think the flat colours contrast the busy photograph nicely.
