current state of the diorama! I'm essentially finished building- all i need to do now it paint and add texture and make a few little garbage bins.
(the door, windows, and little other bits are only taped on for show rn- im going to glue them on after im finished painting)

just want to highlight my tiny, yet dilappated, basketball hoop- used another hairpin for the hoop itself, and essentially macramed the net with some thin string

realllllly wanted to make the door on an actual hinge, using an old hair hair pin as an axis, but I ran into some roadblocks (first and second picture) because I made the little cardboard hinge too tight, but by making the hinge longer and therefore looser, I got it working!!

My reference photos for my diorama that I’m using alongside my sketch and the text from the book.
As posted earlier, I’m building Entrance B from 13 Storeys, a council estate built with the explicit intention of being a demoralizing and demeaning place to live. I’m upping the looming factor with an overhanging second story, a poorly maintained outdoor space, and of course, the bright yellow barred windows that on of the protagonists remark always seemed more of a warning to the occupants than any sort of protection.

windows!!!!!!! i used paperboard from cereal, wires from the inside of (used) disposable masks, and the plastic from the packaging of my hot glue gun.
I've still yet to paint them but i am veryyyyy happy with how they turned out.

our 3D making session of the animation workshop! my prompt was "nerdy professor" and I decided to make her a cat mostly because that seemed fun,,
overall im actually very happy with how she turned out, especially how 3D she really is all the way around, even if i severely underestimated how much time it would take

drawings from the first half of today's animation workshop! we were put into groups to tell each other anecdotes and draw based on them: the prompts were airport security, neighbors, and cooking disasters, in order of appearance.

some (very) rough sketches of the buildings i’m basing the main entrance of my building on!
i’ll elaborate why below the cut-
The building in the book is very much described as an eyesore- indeed, it was intentionally built as a monument to the abuses the main antagonist and his family made against people in the name of money.
Tour Montparnasse and 432 Park Avenue are known pretty well for simply Not Looking Well- they stick out from the skyline, don’t match the surrounding aesthetics, etc.
432 Park Avenue, especially, sucks immensely. It’s far too tall for what it is, so even though the apartments go for millions, they creak and sway and are essentially unlivable. I think I’ll take most of my inspiration for the actual design from this one, because the way it makes even the rich inside it miserable is very fitting for my purposes.
The inspiration I’m taking from The Sky Garden is the way it leans- I love how it truly Looms over everything beneath it. I also like the color scheme- the shiny blues and whites with silver accents are the kinda “modern nothingness” I’m going for. It also reflects the suns rays and melts any plastic in its path because it’s poorly built.
