Artist statement
I began by looking into futuristic material to inspire my project. Researching many differing artists and ideas ranging from futurism and cubism to fan favourite futuristic films like the matrix. I was inspired by the use of masks in today’s world as a form of protection and anominity and wanted to explore the impact that the normalisation of masks will have for our future.
I looked at how society has progressed on certain ideas of gender, sexuality and how it can be pushed even further in the future
From doing this I was able to merge my love of punk and attitude filled art to the futuristic distopia I created through mood boards and experimentation
I explored this through fashion sculpture and print weaving in and out of each discipline using links between them and my theme throughout
I really loved working on this and found new passions, process and styles to build upon in all areas of my art.

This is my final 6 look lineup
The year is 2047 where gender and sexuality has progressed and masks are used as a way to keep anonymity among the cancel culture and online shaming
I’m taking my look to the club scene of 2047 in a distopian future presenting characters of all social class in this club
The first look is a matrix inspired all leather look of high waitsted trousers, long leather overcoat lying over a fishnet top. I was inspired by the more reserved among us who wish to look trendy yet siphoisticated. I presented this with a bold leather futuristic outfit yet confident models exposed face
The second look is inspired by the recent popularity of oversized clothing of which Billie Elish flaunts to promote better body image, style and sillouettes. The character wears a all neon green bodysuit with high waitsted trousers and high end oversized puffer jacket. I was inspired to use the neon green seen from my development and research mood boards and loved the matching pieces look
Third, A future punk club outfit. I love leather and added a leather jacket to leather pants and stockings. This character is the more expressive about their sexuality and body confidence in a time we’re the sexual boundary’s have been broken.
Fourth, I used a diverse range of models and wanted to create a body positive yet club ready skin on show outfit for the model. I used strap leggings, sleeves and visible top in this outfit to express that more sexual side
Fifth, I wanted to create a character with anominity. The use of a mask is common among these gang members and trouble makers. The black bubble jacket tracksuits of today. I picked a matching tracksuit to suit the style of character and used a fishnet top fitting with this collections theme
Sixth, I lastly wanted to show character fourths best friend. Both of whom are ready for the night and expressing their sexuality through their fashion. I wanted to create a stripped back look with hot pants harness, stockings and mask to present the party goer in full flow.
I was inspired by the punk and distopian future seen in futuristic films along with my favourite designers to create this line up and I was very happy with the result.

This is the mask used for my prints covered in paint. I like the idea of using paint on masks to signify affiliation or expression however with the fumes from the paint it seems counter intuitive and sadistic. It’s this darker sinister tone I really like about these two pieces

As I am looking at masks through my research and influences I decided to bring this into my project through print
I decided to experiment with a creative way to print and that was using a survival face mask so common in society today covering it in black paint and printing my face wearing a the mask side to side.
I really loved the outcome and the print it left and so I designed a few more with added colour and lipstick to signify group affiliation and sexuality through the new world of wearing masks

As part of my process of designing a six look line up for my fashion elective, I created six character boards from which to inspire my design of each six looks
Using many different elements from my research into artists, brands and styles, I used some of my favourite fashion influencer as my muse for these characters
I want to create a distopian future where gender and sexuality norms have been thrown out the window. I want to draw from this idea of the club of the future inspired by movies like blade runner and the matrix club/bar scenes
I hope to take elements from each characters distinct style displayed on these boards to create a diverse finished 6 look lineup

Working with paint I used pieces from my router that I broke up for sculpture to print down different designs
I used vibrant contrasting colours associated with my project to show movement in the print

On Monday I attended a zoom workshop with Mairead to learn a process of designing a six look lineup
It was a great workshop which gave a quick creative and fun way to process designing a 6 look lineup
I enjoyed working with colour and using makeup as a medium was a challenge but I really enjoyed this workshop and have learned a new process for design useful in all disciplines in the future

I experimented with collage from magazines to present a colour story of neons. This piece hold a futuristic feel mixed with its point of diversity showing contemporary musicians depicted in hologram like images to non gendered aliens
From working with collage I found I preferred working digitally and hope to present more futuristic colour boards through that medium in future work

As I am looking into futuristic styles and ideas I though viewing the matrix would be a great way to get inspired. I loved the film and it gave me great ideas for all disciplines to develope in the near future

Over the weekend I worked on creating some gender fluid outfit. I want to explore gender boundary’s in fashion as we see popular artists including the likes of Harry Styles, lil Nas x and Yungblud push gender norms of fashion. I hope to continue to develop ideas as I work on this topic through my project

Inspired by Minju Kim I wanted to experiment with shapes and oversized outfits. This was a great way to experiment shape and sillouette. Using the photos of the pieces on the sheet allowed me to get unorthodox shapes to experiment with.

I wanted to research fashion to gain some wider knowledge on the construction of it. Which lead to my research of my keen interest in Korean fashion. This helped me to understand and learn new fashion sillouettes in a style I admire
Along with this was my research into cubism and futurism to aid my sculptures and sillouettes. This helped me create new ideas to further develop my work along with experimentation of the ideas behind these art movements
Lastly I wanted to look into BDSM as I found I enjoyed the fashion aspect of it seen throughout some of my previously researched artists. This matched with the use of masks, I hope to use, develop and encorporate into my future work

I wanted to create designs from my sculpture pieces to model. I edited the photos to be put worn on the models with different technology based shapes. It showed me unique sillouettes and creative designs over the body and I loved working with it

Sculptures of Router
I found the router a little limiting and decided I should keep the pieces to expand on my next sculpture
