For my final sample I went back to the latex again but this time while paining layers to thicken the latex I was adding left over pieces of overlocking thread which had came apart after I was cutting up the fabric, I placed them on after every second layer and I am really pleased with the results. I think this is my favourite sample as I think it kind of resembles a look that Julia has worn before.

Moving on to my forth sample I took the same cotton button up I had used as a tester sample and cut it up into small strips to which I then sewed each one down the middle and bunched them together to make little ruffles to which I then sewed together on calico, I really like how this turned out and the texture reflects on how the skirt is in the 5th look of my line up.

For my third sample I decided to use the fabric from the garments I had used during my stand work I wanted to do some smocking with the red Jersey fabric as I was intrigued to see how this would look on this specific material which in all I am happy how it turned out , I did do this grid format on the back of the fabric before on a smaller grey piece of cotton but I didn’t like how it turned out so I decided to try again in a new fabric.

For my next sample I wanted to explore more with the latex by using the same painting technique but mixing black into every second layer which then gave it some sort of marble effect going through the sample, I always done some black squares by themselves but when I went to peel them off they ended being too thin to sew together without ripping so I added them to the bottom of the marble piece to give it a sort of ruffle on a skirt feeling ( these black layers remind me a lot of a burst balloon lol)

Starting my textile samples for my collection I knew I wanted to do something using Latex, after researching an endless amount of Julia’s looks it’s clear that she is no stranger to texture and abstract materials I started my first sample by painting down multiple layers of liquid latex and waited for them to dry before adding more layers to make it thicker and more durable, I then dyed the latex by using red chalk pastels ( I did try to dye them before using acrylic paint but this didn’t turn out aswell) I then hand sewed them together in a pathwork form and then added some drops of hot glue to give it some extra texture, I thought about painting these drops black but I quite like how it turned out without the black paint.

After going through a series of colour ways and different options I finally concluded my final line up made up of 60% red 25% grey and 10% black while also adding 5% of a nude baize colour that I only decided to include in some of the linings I enjoyed these bold colors together which I think go very well with the essence of Julia Fox

I then brought this colour way onto my 6 look line up, rotating which colour was the primary of the collection and which would be the secondary throughout.
Thus far I have done 3 lineups but I don’t think I have found my favourite just yet so I will continue to do more.

This Monday we started to look at our colour-ways for the collection I looked at the pictures I had gathered for my mood board and zoomed in on different sections to see which palette appealed to me most
Tumblr media
I chose this area here as I liked the reds showing through the darkness of the colour story there is a bit of a seductiveness feel to it I then gathered some other colours which came from the moodboard that I felt worked well together.

Whilst developing my designs for this collection I was looking at other designers and fashion most recent collections and Acne Studio’s Johnny’s Johansson Spring Summer 25 womens collection is one I found intriguing.
The ready to wear collection features some daring but also relaxed shapes to the body with a feature of cartoon looking pants which I could sooo see Julia wearing. Also the draping of these linen/ shirt material is also something I enjoy about the collection.

Then to help me develop my designs further I created different mood boards on my wall alongside my silhouettes and tracings of my draping on the stand
Doing this helped me to gather the essence of what I wanted for this collection. And I could see that my collection was going to me more from the present day era of fashion.

This Thursday we continued with our Ethics and empathy class, we started off by getting into groups and picking one garment that we had talked about last week. We then research each detail of the garment including how it was made, where it was made, the raw materials used to make the garment and how each sector of the garments production is important and discovering what each part meant to us. This allowed us as a group to reflect on how there are many people affected by garment production including people lives and environments/eco systems
I really enjoyed this class as it was really interesting to learn the story of these garments and the work that goes into making them but also the cons of how the are produced is also disheartening.

From my work on the stands I took photos of each of my favourites and printed them out in different scales.
Tumblr media
I then developed a line up of model illustrations based on Julia herself taking inspiration from other photo shoots she has done.
Tumblr media
From here I cut and traced over each line and fold that took my eye and draped it over the model illustrations to give me an idea of silhouettes I wanted
Doing this really started the drive in the design process for me as I really liked some of the looks I produced with the traced pieces.

Starting today I used the tracings from my draping that I done on the stand and fit them to the model illustrations that I drew previously, these are the 6 that I liked the most which completed my 6 look line up.
Tumblr media
I then re-drew this line up on tracing paper which I then photocopied multiple copies of to start my colour-ways for the collection.

On Thursday we started our Empathy and Ethics project with Aisling, for this we were asked to bring in a garment that had a special meaning to us that we loved. We each then shared stories amongst each other about our garments orgins and why we loved them so much. We then picked a specific part of the garment who’s story was shared with us and drew it in further detail, I chose to focus on the kiss mark on the back of Narem’s jacket which was a limited edition piece that reminded her of home.
I think the main point that I took away from this class is that we do forget that most clothes aren’t just fabric they also do hold a story which can be significant to others

The next day I started to play with my garments on the stand mixing textures and creating different shapes and form and and looking at the draping of each material.

I really like how the last couple looks turned out the draping and creation of these lines that nearly makes the linen shirt turn into a flower has really sparked something in my design process for this collection.
