i used to always laugh at people who would say “this episode/era/finale is so bad it’s going to get the show cancelled” but it is feeling alarmingly like the late 80s

i love how ainley's master is this like... horrific parody of delgado's master. on top of being a parody of nyssa's father, the gentle and kind tremas, he's a parody of himself; he has the superficial veneer of his old self's control and cunning, but really he's a pale imitation, all glamour and no charm. he's the only version of the master to kill the doctor and the doctor hates him for it; he's driven by his desperate desire to survive and every day he's dying. he destroys endlessly and aimlessly and it's not even intentional, most of the time. even his appearance seems to parody delgado's incarnation, with puffy sleeves and dramatic cloaks and the classic goatee which resemble but don't recreate his past self's classiness. he's a pantomime master, himself without bounds. and he hates it.
