MY FAV EVEN IN ARCADIA SONGS

After more than a month I already have favourites:

Look to Windward. It does feel like the ending of something and the beginning of everything. Asking someone else to halt the eclipse within them is such a gloomy, obscure but also threating final plea. Because it sounds more like letting the other person know this is their last chance to save everything from breaking down but at the same time, the realization that it's too late. It feels like a prelude to disaster. It also feels like traveling somewhere else, somewhere that could reflect your own insides after many years of leaving yourself behind and prioritizing others. LOVED the breaks: the guttural screams implying aggression and grief, the falsettos implying vulnerability and pain. Both undertones playing in the same song, charged with the energy of something being conceived while burning. It does connect quickly with you and makes you engage in what he wants to tell you, which in this song, is precisely that: the prelude, the doors, the book cover, the summary— the reason.

Even in Arcadia. Take me back to eden hit me like a solid block of ice falling from the skies at full speed. Even in Arcadia hit me just the same— blunt force trauma to the face. It feels like a continuation of that song. A sort of acceptance. Accepting that their arms will eternally be prepared, ready to take the hit and swing back, just the same. When I'm dealing with a lot of grief intertwined with aggression, I often dream of pulling my own teeth out, just to feel relief (like pulling the bandaid off quickly after playing with it for a bit). This song resonates with that aggression. With the difference that's someone else voicing a part of me that needs to be released softly/gently instead of simply acting through it. It's the beautiful acceptance of something brutal and heavy underneath your ribs, that will eternally be consumed and created within you.

Damocles. Out of all the songs, this one's probably my favourite. It makes me feel at ease with my pain, vulnerability and my humanity. I remember listening to it while in the midst of the city's chaos and I hid under the shade of a tree, looking at the blue sky and simply breathing. Sirens going off, people passing by...life happening and yet I felt completely still. The good kind of stillness, the conscious one— like if something greater than myself actually showed some mercy (even love?) and granted me a few minutes to breathe. It feels overwhelmingly compassionate, real and gentle. Something I do believe we deserve to feel more often.

Gethsemane. Most people tend to think about someone else when listening to this song. Usually, someone who's been abusive, toxic, bad...their personal villain, if I may say. Not in my case. It's clear that this song tells the story of an abusive/toxic rs that has already ended. It feels turmoiled and like a time-travel experience at times, especially when the guitars completely break loose and start shifting and speeding up, playing with the tempo (which reminded me of Your Name's soundtrack). Again, falsettos and high pitched tones representing vulnerability and nudeness, and powerful high notes that feels strong, like words being pushed out, full of force. And then, that last change in beat: echoes, deep lows, breathy and raspy voice...LOVED it. Felt like a condemnation of what could've been but wasn't— because she didn't let it happen. Because of her. Personally, this song felt like a callout, and a deserved one. Because I know I am the villain in someone else's story (and rightfully so, not the self-pitying bs version where a bitch plays the victim). I know I've been selfish, hypocritical and too lost in my own pain to even understand that others bleed just the same.

And last but not least, Infinite baths. Not much to add— if you know what's like to find an open green, flowery esplanade during twilight, with pink-orangeish undertones in the sky after a long, hard, exhausting journey, then you'll know exactly how this song feels. And, in that state, you reflect on the echoes of the first song (halting the eclipse) and the previous states of mind (the teeth of God, the blood of man). It's the ending of the beginning. A constant state of chaos, brutality and redemption.

Love the zelda vibes in Past self, tho.

And, as well as in the previous album, there's a song I don't like, which is Provider. Not that I hate it, but I skip it.
