“Thanks,” Dylan smiled appreciatively, having missed the kindness of strangers in this town. However, the man sitting before her didn’t quite look like any of the locals she’d known. Was he new? Yeah.. you can say that again. Usually my mouth would water at the thought of a good hashbrown but..” She lowers her gaze, looking to the new meal before her with mild distaste but also, less so than the big breakfast she’d previously attempted to consume. This one felt a little easier on the eyes.. and the stomach. Looking up at him now, the brunette offers a warm smile, the best she could muster given the circumstances. “Well, I learned long ago never to judge a book by it’s cover. Besides.. you have kind eyes.” And she was most definitely grateful for the company, and the distraction. “Good question.. I grew up here. Left about ten years ago for New York and recently returned to run my family diner.” Amongst other things. “Are you? ‘Cause I don’t.. think I’ve seen you around before.”
Tumblr media
Kaan smiled and nodded before taking another bite off of his plate. In the few months he’d been in Mystic, he has yet to meet anyone unpleasant. Everyone was so welcoming and kind to him that he almost regretted living under the radar when he lived in Mystic a few years ago. It’s silly now to think about his past and how small his fears seemed to be.
Kind eyes, he heard Dylan said and immediately looked up to catch her gaze. “I’ve never actually heard that before.” He said, letting out a little chuckle. “Rosie’s Diner?” Kaan asked as he recalled the dishes that he enjoyed 15 years ago.
“I’m kind of new.” He began, debaitng on how much he should explain to this stranger. However, he figured plainly saying he was new to town would be a lame answer. “I went to school here briefly 15 years ago and then I moved to LA, pursued a career as an architect, then felt like something was missing, then... Somehow I ended up back here. Now I take care of the Sewell Hardware. So if you ever need anything fixed or built, I’m your man.” He said pausing, instantly questioning the last part of his sentence. “I mean not your man, but someone you can rely on for those things... Uh, and not saying that you can’t do those things either...” He said back tracking, in hopes he didn’t offend Dylan with what he had said.

She let out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding, at his first impression. For despite only having known Kaan for a short period of time Carolyn had come to respect—but more importantly trust his opinion. His seal of approval on the place she choose was important to her. She knew he wouldn’t steer her wrong. She knew he cared about her. It was a funny thought, how close they had grown together over that short period of time, yet there they were. Blue hues watched as he moved around that space, inspecting as he went. She smiled at that fact, a toothy and perhaps foolish sort of grin.
“An expensive fix?” she asked, smile faltering ever so slightly at the prospect of electrical work. Carolyn had taught herself a little when it came to keeping a home in one piece, yet she didn’t trust herself to be too handy. She didn’t doubt that he would offer to help, but if she couldn’t pay for it—on top of the rent and all the other things they would need. A doubt crept in then, that feeling that she could drown them with this very decision, terrifying.
At the sound at the door Carolyn’s nerves continued to grip at her, that smile though would remain—rebound even as he whispered. Kaan had a way of steadying her. Of making her feel safe—not because he would protect her, but because he instilled this calm that reminded her that she could protect herself. With a steadying breath she followed him towards the door, watching as he greeted the agent. That man, elderly in his years appearing as frazzled as he had sounded on the phone. “Mr. Edwards?” she asked him, extending her hand which was easily taken.
How are you two getting along? He would ask them then, taking his glasses from his nose and busying his hands with cleaning them. It would make a nice place for you love birds—you said you have a child too? It’s a good family home.
-
"Not at all. Specially since I heard you’re pretty close to the owner of the Hardware store,” Kaan playfully responded, noticing Carolyn’s expression changing at his mention of upgrading some electrical work. Despite knowing her for only a short time, Kaan had grown protective over Carolyn... not that she needed protecting at all. But being a strong, single mother reminded him of his own mother and how much his mother worked to put the pieces together for him. He could only imagine what Carolyn had gone through and he wouldn’t dare pry unless she wanted to talk to him about it.
When Mr. Edwards began to talk, Kaan kept on a stoic expression. Mystic was nothing like Los Angeles, but he wouldn’t keep his guard down at how pesky these agents could be. Kaan played along, not correcting Mr. Edwards when he assumed that Carolyn and him were a couple. “Look, we don’t want to play any games. Yes. It seems like a good family home, but there are clear electrical issues that would need to be updated. What other issues is this house hiding?”
Tumblr media
The man cleared his throat, clearly thrown off by Kaan’s sudden and blunt questioning. Fixing his glasses back on his face, he tone became more serious. I was informed about that issue recently and the current owners will be responsible for fixing those issues if your family decide to move in. I was told your family was only interested in renting the place?

noralisebroderick:
When the subject of the conversation shifted away from herself, Nora mentally exhaled a sigh of relief, even as Kaan released one of seemingly weariness for the opposite reason. Though, once he launched into his explanation, the sigh made a bit more sense and, needless to say, Nora found herself in disbelief. Mystic was suddenly feeling so much bigger. How could Kaan have been here and they never crossed paths?
Still, though, if there was anything she could understand, it was not feeling quite right, anywhere else. When her marriage fell apart, and then her grandmother died, this was the only place she wanted to be. For all the resentment she sometimes felt when she was here, Nora also knew that the pull and the comfort of home could seldom be ignored, in times of duress. That, she suspected, is what brought and kept a lot of people here.
“Wow. No, I completely get that.. Just can’t believe we were both living here at that time and I never ran into you. Or, at least, I don’t remember doing so if I did,” she released an easy laugh then, though she waved a hand in dismissal of the thought. “What matters is that we’re friends now, and you’re here now, and we’re here for each other.”
Tumblr media
-
Kaan hid a lot of his repressed feelings when it came to recalling his previous time in Mystic. There was so much to upack that he didn’t even know where to start. It also seemed like Nora had been dealing with a plathara of problems on her own, adding on to it isn’t something Kaan wanted to do. “Maybe it wasn’t time for us to meet yet. I feel like destiny has a funny way of putting the right people in your life at the right time. Sometimes if it doesn’t work out the first time, the chance always seems to come back again when it’s supposed to.”
Tumblr media
The comment Nora made about being friends put a smile on Kaan’s face. It had been a while since he felt truly at home surrounded by those he treasured the most in the world. “And nothing will ever change that.” He reassured. A moment of silence filled the space between them as the music faded, but it didn’t feel awkward. Instead, Kaan felt relief and warmth in his heart. "Thank you for saving me a dance. It seems like your son’s date’s father can’t stop looking at you. So if does anything sketchy tonight, let me know and I’ll scare him a little.” Kaan joked before releasing Nora from their stance. “Or if things turn out well and you need someone to pick up Nathan, you have my number.”

“Oh, whatever! You guys are just lifesavers!” She grinned, waving off his own and the other’s humble responses, hugging West even tighter. He groaned a bit at the unexpected strength she had, an uneasy grin growing on his lips as he politely pats her back in response. Thankfully, time passed and the cops were soon at the scene of the ‘crime’, where West had stayed along with the much larger man…. mostly because he did and West didn’t want to seem… like a dick who just left. The woman, however, stayed by his side like a moth to a flame. He wasn’t sure why, all he did was put his leg out for the robber to fall, but in any case he didn’t question it. When the other had approached them, West smiled awkwardly at the lady, gesturing for her to go ahead and talk to the cops. When she does, he sighs with relief, turning to the other man. “—Geez,” he shook his head, hand running through his hair. “Never thought I’d wound up in a situation like this…” West puts his hand out for the other to shake, a grin greeting his features. “I’m West, by the way.”
Tumblr media
-
Kaan chuckled at the other’s response as the woman released him from her hold. “Kaan,” he introduced himself, reaching out his hand to shake the other’s. “This whole thing was a little weird though, right? I’m new to town, so I don’t know if this is a normal thing that happens around here?” Glancing back at the woman, he could hear her gushing about her saviors, specifically the “good looking one without the facial hair”. Letting out another laugh, Kaan was glad that the affection wasn’t towards him. He wouldn’t have known how to respond as smoothly as West had done.
Tumblr media
“Should we get out of here before she tries to come back? Unless you were heading somewhere already.” Almost on cue, Kaan’s stomach growled, reminding the man that he was on his way to get lunch. “I was thinking of going to Rosie’s if you wanted to join.”

‘But’ …the word alone could make your heart drop, couldn’t it? For Erin, there had only been one other time she had felt so low… but thinking about that now, well, it just wasn’t the time for that. She felt silly, sitting there with her hands gripping the sides of her chair, avoiding eye contact. For a moment, before that cursed word had come out of his mouth, Erin had thought the feelings were mutual. There was hope— a lightness of sorts that nearly had her floating. Finally, she nearly thought, basking in the idea that their friendship could be more. It was insane how fast all of that could drop in one instant. Before he could go on, the words ‘friend’ making her stomach churn, Kaan’s mother returns. “How’s it going you two?” she smiles. Erin frantically avoids eye contact with both of them, deciding in that moment she had to leave. Now. “—I-I’m sorry… Ms. Aydin,” she manages to get out, slowly gathering her belongings. “My dad actually just texted me and wants me to come home.” It was a blatant lie, one she knew Kaan wouldn’t believe. After all, between her confession and his rejection, when did she even have time to check her phone? Getting to her feet, Erin quickly shoves her notebook in her bag, carrying her laptop in one hand. “Thank you for everything,” she says quietly, exiting the kitchen, head low and eyes fixed on her next few steps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaan ignored his mother’s question and kept his eyes only at Erin. “Don’t go,” He pleaded. He moved closer to her, wanting to do something, anything... but he couldn’t. Everything was moving so quickly around him. His mind was a hundred steps ahead, but his body was frozen. Only a single thought echoed in his mind, “Is it better this way?” However, despite his state, Kaan couldn’t help but notice Erin’s facial expression and the way her voice sounded. He hurt her. He did the thing he was so afraid to do, but ended up doing it anyways. It was enough to snap himself out of the trans he put himself in. “Wait,” he said softly, reaching out towards where she once stood... but it was too late, she was gone and only the smell of her perfume lingered.
Dropping to the floor, Kaan hid his face in his palm. It was always going to be this ending and he prepared himself... but why did it still hurt so much? Maybe he should have stopped her, but what would that change? He was still going to leave in a few weeks. It would never have worked out... right? While he drowned in his dispair, a comforting embrace wraped around him. Looking up from his hands, he saw his mother and remembered he had to be strong. He wiped away his tears and hugged her back. He didn’t know it then, but It would become a moment he’d regret the most and one he would never speak about.

camilagvrcia:
Whipping around in an instant with furrowed brows and a dropped jaw, Camila found herself ready to fight. After all, this hasn’t been the first time a creep had made a move; she was ready. Glaring up into his seemingly innocent umber hues, she merely arches a brow, listening to his explanation.. or, lack thereof. “Oh? You thought you could cop a feel and pass it off as you being clumsy, huh?” The brunette makes a point to look him up and down, clearly gesturing to the size of him, before returning her gaze to his own. “How uncanny.” With narrowed eyes, she presses her lips into a firm line, clearly letting him know how strong she was, how much she could defend herself. Though, truthfully, beneath her bitey facade, she knew that just by the air he presented, and the sincerity in his eyes — from what she could see, anyhow — that he was genuine. “You’re lucky you apologised.”

“That’s not at all what I was hoping to happen,” Kaan responded immediately and apologetically, before backpedaling his answer. “Not that I was hoping anything to happen. I swear I didn’t even know there was anyone back there.” He noticed as Cam had looked him up and down, and despite being a larger man, he felt so small in her gaze. When she began to ease up on grilling him for the incident, Kaan sighed in relief. Lifting both his hands up in the air by his face, to make it known that he was requesting a truce. “I promise it won’t happen again.”
But maybe he left his guard down too quickly. The two men that he encountered a few moments before still wanted to cause trouble. One of the men pushed Kaan’s back, while yelling insults at him. “We’re not done yet, asshole!” Overwhelmed by the sudden force on his back, Kaan lost his balance for the second time. One hand was able to catch help stabilize his balance by holding onto the bar table. The other, not so lucky hand, had found itself cushioned on one of the brunette's breasts. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion and Kaan wanted nothing more that to be knocked out unconscious.

💒 - fuck, marry, kill
These questions sound like trouble... Do I really have to answer this one?
💋 - make out, kiss, cuddle
Make out with Erin... feels like I’ve dreampt about this when I was younger. Kiss Cam, seems like the quickest one and most likely won’t happen. Cuddle with Arya, because friends can cuddle, maybe?
🚓 - go to jail with, bail out of jail, send to jail
Go to jail with Cam, I just feel like it would happen somehow. Bail out both Erin and Arya.
💕 - go on a date with, hang out with, unwillingly get set up with
Go on a date with Erin, it would be fun to get to know her all over again. Hangout with Arya, I feel like we’ve become pretty good friends. Unwillingly get set up with Cam, mainly because I’m still embarrassed to show my face to her.
😬 - at a bar — rescue from creeps, ignore and pretend you can’t see what’s happening, join in to get to free drink with
Rescue Erin from creeps, not that she really needs me to fight her battles. Ignore and pretend I can’t see Cam, I feel like this is the safest way to survive. Join Arya to get a free drink.
😂 - prank on, get revenge on, get in on said revenge/prank with
I don’t think it’s a good idea to prank or get revenge on these ladies. I just don’t see it ending well for me.

She smiled a little more at that, the notion that she too could have a room something that the redhead did desperately want though still remained low on her priority list. It wasn’t something she felt sad for—rather it spoke to the ever growing list of things that she wanted for her daughter. Wanted for their life in Mystic. That place she grew more comfortable in every day—a place that felt like home. Following his lead Carolyn moved towards that could be house. Eyes trailing along the exterior brick. Those old windows spoke to the Southern girl who dearly loved past things. Antiques—oddities that carried stories. Mismatched as they were. Carolyn listened as he spoke next, watching as he adeptly freed the key from its hiding space and opened the door. “Thank you,” she told him sweetly as he held it open for her. Eyes finding the ceiling she crossed the threshold.
Tumblr media
Something felt right within that space. Mere steps past the doorway and it already felt as though she belonged there. Careful, she warned herself knowing her heart could easily become attached. “It feels good,” she said to his question without thought. The brightness of that space welcoming in a way she dearly had missed within that old motel room she’d been living in. Carolyn could see Avery then—running down the hall towards the door. Mind cast out, back towards the mature tree that sat upon the lawn. A tire swing maybe, she thought with a smile. “I have a bad habit of falling in love, so I don’t know what to think,” she teased herself, looking back to Kaan with a happiness within her eyes. Her previous fears missing from her face—gone from her mind.
“What do you think?” she asked, “First impressions,” she added making her way deeper into the house. Hand moving gingerly along the wall—mind unable to shake the thought that that building felt far too much like a home than she had expected it too.
“First impression, it looks great.” Kaan said, looking up at the ceiling and examining the support beams. “The structure looks pretty solid. There’s no visible water damage or any signs of poor workmanship,” he commented, walking around the space and making sure the house had no damages that could cause problems for Carolyn in the future.
Kaan moved on from the structure to examining the sockets in the house. “It looks like some of the electrics need upgrading though, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be an issue. It’s an easy fix. Other than that, it seems like everything’s in order.” After his quick examination, Kaan heard the front doorknob shake slightly as if someone was trying to enter. Before the agent walked in, Kaan whispered in Carolyn’s ear. “Just don’t let them think you’re sold just yet. I think we can convince them to rent it out for a better deal.”
When the agent enters the home, Kaan walks over them to greet them. “Hello, are you the agent? I’m Kaan.”

carolyn-render:
Carolyn laughed at that, “Oh she probably did, though don’t tell her I gave away the trade secrets,” with a wink and a side-ways glance—as if she were sharing some deep rooted secret, Carolyn’s grin grew. That curve stretched toothy into her cheeks. Kaan had a way of managing that. Of pulling out the happy qualities of Carolyn’s features. Her brightness. A fact that the redhead was appreciative of—more than he’d ever know.
Tumblr media
Carolyn watched as he took in what she’d offered. Of course those words had been meant in jest—or at least partially, Carolyn couldn’t help but see how they had landed. His words alone told her that perhaps violence, even in teasing, was perhaps not the best means in this instance. Her brow creased slightly, that look of fondness edged with a care she held for him. “Why wonder when you could know?” she asked then, though wouldn’t say more. Wouldn’t press should he shut that particular conversation down.
Her flush remained—renewed it’s life within her cheeks when he would speak next. Carolyn’s gaze found the floor as she would shake her head. Taking a moment to steady herself. To still her thoughts—that nervous energy such comments brought, finding their escape in the awkward giggle that fell from her lips. “You’re very good for my ego,” she told him, forcing her eyes back up to find his. How was she to tell him that years of experience spoke to the contrary—that she was the lucky one, or so it seemed to the woman that had never truly managed to make a man stay for her.
“Well, if you’re determined to leave early, I at least want a dance,” her brow rose then at her near demand. Well-meaning. A heartfelt request.
“I promise I won’t tell her,” Kaan smiled, entertained at the thought of all mom’s were in some sort of super club. “I wouldn’t want your superpowers revoked.” His features softened at Carolyn’s question. Would admitting he moved back to Mystic to find out make him look pathetic? “When I ran into her, it didn’t look like she wanted me around. I don’t want to push her away even more or worst, make her think I’m a creep for following her around.”
“Someone’s gotta do it,” Kaan said with a smile. Though he hadn’t known her very well, Kaan already felt a strong attachment to the woman, to protect her. It wasn’t a feeling he could explain, but he always felt that there was something she was hiding... whether it was hiding a secret or hiding from someone was something he wouldn’t know and didn’t want to ask. He respected that people had their own secrets. “How could I say no to you?” Kaan said, offering his arm and leading Carolyn to the dance floor. He wasn’t much of a dancer, so he was glad that the song that played next was a slower ballad. Swaying wasn’t as difficult. “I have to admit though, I’ve never really danced before, but I promise to do my best to not step on your toes.”

☠️ 🎤 🍲
☠️ - hide a body for, support them while they go to the police, rat out to the police
My mother was in the armed forces and I know she’d be disappointed if I were to be a part of anything illegal. But I will always be an ally to any community and if they ever need a safe place to hide, my home and my shop will always be safe for them.
🎤 - sing to, make a speech to, yell at
I’ve never sang before and I don’t think I’ll be good at it... I’m also not very good with words so I don’t see myself making one... and I’d yell for people who need their voices heard.
🍲 - share food with, steal food when they’re not looking, don’t share food and make them watch with envy instead
I’d share my food with everyone and anyone. I’m not one to steal or want to make others covet what I have.

Kaan’s warmth never failed to put Nora at ease; they’d both tried their hand at a social situation or two, and knew how to navigate events like this one. And, more than once, just seeing someone else cracking a joke at how ridiculous L.A. socialites could be, or just smiling in her direction had been enough. It was nice to know that feeling hadn’t changed or gone away, with them both now in Mystic.
As of late, Nora had been learning to, or trying to learn to open up to the small, small circle of people she trusted, but sometimes the risk felt scarier than the payoff. Tonight, however, Nora was tired of carrying all the emotional burden on her own, so she gave in, while more or less swaying absently to the music, with her hands rested on her friend’s waist. “He is… probably rightfully concerned about me,” Nora chuckled quietly before continuing. “I’m just…” Feeling sad. Lonely. “Feeling tired, I think.” It wasn’t necessarily a lie because she was tired, just perhaps not in the literal sense that she seemed to be implying.
Tumblr media
Kaan lifted a brow. “Oh?” He responded, concern growing on his face waiting for Nora to explain what she meant. When she spoke about feeling tired, Kaan pulled her closer to him. His broad arms wrapped around her shoulders, close enough to let her rest her head on his shoulder if she wanted. Still swaying mindlessly to the music, “You can lean on me anytime, Nora.” He assured his friend. “Whenever you’re tired. I’ll help you carry it. Whatever it is, you’re not alone.” He said softly. Even though he didn’t know or couldn’t fully understand what Nora was going through, he wanted her to know that he would remain by herside through it all. She didn’t have to be alone to carry the world on her shoulders.

She grinned a little more naturally, his words helping to force those previous thoughts further back into her mind. “A short term lease,” she told him honestly, “And a room for Avery, I don’t care if I have to sleep on a pullout in the living room, she deserves her own room. With a door,” she laughed a little at that. A fondness in the sound, as well as a small seed of guilt for it was because of her actions that the little girl had been pulled from her home. From the only life she’d known to sleep first in a car, and then in a hotel room. A lack of privacy had been something Carolyn had expected, yet to subject Avery to it all. It made Carolyn feel like a terrible mother.
Such a thought passed over her features then, a brief shift to the light that so often lingered within her eyes, before she willed it away. “Shall we?” she asked him, motioning towards the home. “The property manager—or was it the realtor—” her brow creased for a moment, “Whoever returned my call, said that the key should be in the lock on the door. They’ll be around shortly to talk to us…”
Tumblr media
“Let’s try to get both of you a room to stay in.” Kaan responded with a grin. It was always remarkable and admirable to Kaan the lengths a mother would go through for their children... But he also wanted the best for Caroyln as well. “Let’s go,” he agreed, leading the way towards the door. “Perfect, we can scout the place first and then make our demands. I read about this listing before coming here. It’s been on the market for a while, so I don’t think we’d have a problem getting a good deal if it’s the place for you.” Kaan twisted the key in the lock, opening the door for Carolyn to walk in first.
They entered the house and Kaan was pleasantly surprised. The interior of the house had a strong foundation and because of the open floor plan, it would make it easy to make any renovations Carolyn wanted. “First thoughts?” He asked Carolyn, not wanting his opinions to sway her in any way.
