kyoganfugaku:
Fugaku’s eyes instantly locked with those of his wife as she reopened them.
He wasn’t sure that ‘affection’ was the right word for what he felt or allowed himself to offer when they were together. He saw it more as ‘protectiveness’. It could take different forms, but in the end it all came to the same concept. He wanted Mikoto to feel safe, respected, and needed. It was the least he could do to show her how much important she was to him.
He certainly wasn’t the most romantic or fancy lover, nor the handsomer or even the most entertaining husband, but he was as loyal as one could be, would give his life for her and saw her as a powerful and trustworthy partner in the life long journey they had undertaken together.
Ha yes… There was also the fact that Mikoto didn’t need her sharingan to see through him like nobody else..
Many things were troubling him since the Nine Tails’ attack. Despite his compromising stance, the relationship with the village had only gotten worse since the tragedy. A stance that many inside their clan also began to seriously question. But something troubled him even more.
“It’s about Itachi.”
He paused, dropped his arms, resisting the envy to cross them over his chest in a defensive gesture. “It’s as if I couldn’t reach him anymore.” There was frustration in that statement, but also fear and concern.
“What if he betrayed us? What if Konoha had found a way to turn him against us.” It didn’t feel right to voice these hypothesis, but he needed a second opinion on them. “I thought of asking Shisui to monitor him. They are still very close. Shisui probably knows him better than I do by now.” This felt wrong too, but he couldn’t just ignore what displeased him.
“What do you think? Maybe Itachi still talks to you? Maybe I’m overthinking things?”
Clinging to ‘maybe’ wouldn’t do them any good. What they needed to focus on were facts, and to judge the situation based on the most likely outcomes and circumstances. Though it pained Mikoto to think that Itachi was anything but loyal to them and their clan, she wasn’t blind. Her fingers curled against Fukgaku’s chest before she retracted her hands.
She couldn’t respond immediately, inhaling deeply first to collect her thoughts. Then, she said, “It’s possible. We pushed him to join ANBU so he could relay information to us, but it also exposed him to the village’s influence. He may be a genius, but he is only but a child.”
Her expression turned grave. She sucked in her lower lip as the gears in her head were turning. Given how little time Itachi could and would spend at home, Mikoto couldn’t gauge how his mental state had progressed since his joining of ANBU. When he wasn’t on missions or training with his father, he was with Shisui. Sasuke had complained about it several times now.
“Don’t approach Shisui. He is Itachi’s closest and most loyal friend. I think if he were forced into a position to choose between the both of you, I think he would answer to Itachi rather than you.”
She held her husband’s gaze, “Overthinking or not, we should pay close attention. These are serious allegations you are voicing, and I know you don’t want to distrust our son any more than I.”
#kyoganfugaku#i think shisui watching itachi is mentioned in the shinden book?#i never read it unfortunately#but it still think mikoto would advise against it

“I know how you’ll die.”
“I don’t know what you feel like.”
“I wish we’d had a better goodbye.”
“Now I think about you everyday.”
“I let you fade away.”
“I swear it’s like dying to catch a ghost.”
“It feels like I’m trying to hold smoke.”
“You think that you’re the only one.”
“I wish that I was as good as you.”
“So if I’m a liar and you’re a thief, at least we both know where the other sleeps.”
“Let’s end this tonight.”
“I don’t want to let you go but it hurts my hands to hold the rope.”
“You’re no better than they say.”
“If you call then I’m coming to get you.”
“Now I’m falling asleep to forget you.”
“I wanna burn down everything we begun.”
“At least now I can say that I am trying.”
“And I hope you will forget things I still lack.”
“I am not your friend.”
“I’m not your lover.”
“I’m not your family.”
“Be my breath, there’s nothing I wouldn’t give.”
“With nobody in your bed the night’s hard to get through.”
“Take me, take me back to your bed.”
“I love you so much that it hurts my head.”
“I don’t mind you under my skin, I’ll let the bad parts in.”
“I love you so much, but do me a favor, baby, don’t reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can’t take it.”
“Just pretend that you want me.”
“Don’t be that hand ‘round my throat so I can’t breathe.”
“You’ve set on me but you are not the sun.”
“So touch me or don’t, just let me know where you’ve been.”
“No one can save you now.”
“I’ll still find someone to be everything we know that you’ll never be.”
“I can never love you, I can never reach you.”
“You can only blame yourself.”
“It’s hard to be the better man when you’re still lying.”
“You don’t recover from a night like this.”
“It used to be the reason I breathed but now it’s choking me up.”
“Die young and save yourself.”
“Feel like every chance to leave is another chance I should have took.”
“I’ve never felt so hollow.”
“I am heaven-sent, don’t you dare forget.”
“I am all you’ve ever wanted.”
“I am the cause to all your problems.”
“If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand.”
“You are second-hand smoke.”
“You are the smell before rain.”
“You are the blood in my veins.”
“If you let me have my way I swear I’ll tear you apart.”
“I almost feel sorry for what I’m going to do.”
“I am too weak to be your cure.”
“I know that this is what you want.”
“Need you like water in my lungs.”
“This is the end.”
“I hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips.”
“And if you ever said you miss me then don’t say you never lied.”
“When I’m talking to myself I’d always rather be talking to you.”
“Forget everything you think you know about me.”
“If I can choose it’s only you.”
“I’m here for you to use, broken and bruised.”
“They say you need to pray if you want to go to heaven but they don’t tell you what to say when your whole life has gone to hell.”
“I’ve seen more spine in jellyfish. I’ve seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.”

the grisha trilogy sentences, pt 1 (shadow & bone).
“i missed you every hour. and you know what the worst part was? it caught me completely by surprise.”
“the problem with wanting is that it makes us weak.”
“i don’t care if you danced naked on the roof of the palace with him.”
“fine. make me your villain.”
“i’m sorry it took so long for me to see you. but i see you now.”
“i never really belonged anywhere.”
“i’m hilarious.”
“there’s nothing wrong with being a lizard. unless you were born to be a hawk.”
“i’ve been waiting for you a long time. you and i are going to change the world.”
“i’m not used to people trying to kill me.”
“it’s always just you and me.”
“what is infinite? the universe and the greed of men.”
“well, if it gets too bad, give me a signal, and i’ll get up on the banquet table, toss my skirt over my head, and do a little dance. that way no one will be looking at you.”
“do you blame me for every mistake i made? for every girl i tumbled? for every dumb thing i’ve said? because if we start running tallies on stupid, you know who’s going to come out ahead.”
“did you tell him what i showed you in the dark?”
“people, particularly big men carrying big rifles, don’t expect lip from a scrawny thing like me. they always look a bit dazed when they get it.”
“there’s no such thing as too much champagne. though your head will try to tell you otherwise tomorrow.”
“i hope you don’t expect fairness from me. it isn’t one of my specialties.”
“i was thinking something quieter, like maybe a nice poison.”
“everything she said was perfectly nice, but the whole time she was looking at me as if i were something her dog spit up.”
“like calls to like.”
“it’s a great honor to save a life. you saved many.”
“well, if i plan on doing anything exciting i promise to give fair warning so just… take a nap or something.”
“i doubt you have any idea what you are.”
“my secrets of seduction do not come cheap.”
“of course i make mistakes. just not often.”
“only you could contemplate imminent death and just say ‘alright’.”
“it was like standing at the end of everything.”
“you’re the first glimmer of hope i’ve had in a long time.”
“i don’t do tricks, you know.”
“we all have our secrets.”
“why don’t you just admit that you wanted to belong to him? why don’t you admit that part of you still does?”
“close your mouth before something flies in.”

@kyoganfugaku / cont.
He watched her, serious and formal. How old was she, again? How was it that she looked just the same she had when they got married… Even before. When she was a young girl and she had caught his attention for the first time. She had been giggling just the same way and he had wished, almost desperately, that instead of the load of seriousness he had been gifted with, he could have found in him the power to make her giggle that way, to lift her mood from the grief he could usually see on her features.
Oddly enough, it was that very seriousness that happened to make her giggle now. And while he gave her a scolding look, he could feel just the same fondness, the same ravaging desire to protect her that he had felt back then.
Of all beautiful things in this world, you are the most precious, he thought.
He didn’t see what was wrong about stating facts and frowned slightly, but let her step closer. He didn’t move, only his eyes followed her every gesture with an unyielding quality in their depth. Of course he wanted to know what she thought. Always had, always would. She was his wife, but she was also his first counselor, his confident, the other side of his leadership. He might be strong, but she was the origin of his strength.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, lifted her effortlessly as he held her the time of a close embrace. “Only because you always manage to fix my mistakes.“
His lips stretched into a tensed line, almost a smile, that he pressed against her forehead before releasing her.
“I don’t know what I would do without you,” he admitted. Yes, he enjoyed stating facts, especially when they held so much meaning in them.
There was a comfort in being needed. Mikoto enjoyed when she could contribute the way she was taught, when her efforts to be both what was required of her and what she desired to be proved fruitful.
There were also times when she enjoyed needing someone. While it was a weakness to some, Mikoto considered it one of her greatest strengths. Their need was her calling. She did what she could and more, pushing herself for those she loved. And she received the same dedication in return.
To her, that was love.
In Fugaku’s arms, she felt that the two of them were alone in the world. It was a silly thought she allowed herself to entertain every once in a while, to imagine a world where all was well and nothing could endanger their family’s happiness.
But today, she felt a sense of foreboding. It replaced the content of simplicity. Yes, they made mistakes. They both did. They had to catch them and mend them before they could spiral into fatalities.
Mikoto closed her eyes at the sensation of Fugaku’s lips. This comfort was constant. It wasn’t tied to their actions. It just was. These moments always were too short, too fleeting. Begrudgingly, she opened her eyes again.
“Is there something troubling you?” Her hands slid down his chest, continuing their connection. “You know how much I enjoy your affectionate side, but today you seem thoughtful. Am I wrong?”
The talk about mistakes, about her, their children---Mikoto looked at him with kind eyes. If she was wrong, nothing would make her happier.

"When I look at our sons, at how courageous and smart they are, I can't help but think that they take after you most."
/ @kyoganfugaku
Mikoto turned toward him with a surprised expression on her face. However, it soon faded when a giggle escaped her. She brought her hand up to her mouth to cover it slightly as her shoulders shook.
“You think that? Oh, my dear husband, do you enjoy stating facts?” She was teasing, of course, stepping closer and invading his personal space.
“Do you want to know what I think?” Her arms slid around his shoulders. “I think they are strong, resilient, and caring. Those qualities, they have most definitely inherited from you. We’ve done well, the both of us.”

If Kushina’s world was ending, Mikoto, of course, was caught right in the middle of it. Being friends with a humanoid whirlwind was never boring, at least.
“Kushina-chan, please. It’s only a week. You’ll survive.”
Ichiraku Ramen was closed. Kami help them all.

the grisha trilogy sentences, pt 3 (ruin & rising).
“i am not ruined. i am ruination.”
“i will strip away all that you know, all that you love, until you have no shelter but mine.”
“beauty was your armor. fragile stuff, all show. but what’s inside you? that’s steel. it’s brave and unbreakable. and it doesn’t need fixing.”
“you might make me a better man.”
“you might make me a monster.”
“why waste my anger on you when the fault is mine? i should have anticipated another betrayal from you.”
“i wanted to see you.”
“there are two thrones on that dais. you could see me any time you liked.”
“i hope you weren’t looking to me to be the voice of reason. i keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret.”
“not bad looking? he’s damnably handsome.”
“i thought your hobby was preening.”
“don’t let me be alone.”
“despise your heart.”
“i have no heart.”
“in the end, maybe love just meant longing for something impossibly bright and forever out of reach.“
“it’s true. you are stronger, wiser, infinite in experience… but i am an apt pupil.”
“it’s a vow that if i can’t be anything else to you, at least i can be a weapon in your hand.”
“you’re all i’ve ever wanted. you are the whole of my heart.”
“are you going to make a habit of winning arguments? it’s very unbecoming.”
“i had a taste for you, once.”
“you were meant for more than me, and i’ll die fighting to give it to you. but please don’t ask me to pretend it’s easy.”
“it gets dark when i say it does.”
“no matter who or what i was, i would’ve been yours.”
“we all die. not everyone dies for a reason.”
“want to know my secret? i have a lot of money.”
“i’ll be back to fetch you for dinner, but should you grow restless, do feel free to run screaming from the room or take a dagger to her. whatever seems most fitting at the time.”
“for all my talk of vows and honor, what i really want is to put you up against that wall and kiss you until you forget you ever knew another man’s name.”
“you live in a single moment. i live in a thousand.”
“he’s kind when he might have been cruel. it’s refreshing.”
“oh, a dark lake full of something shiny. let me put my hand into it.”
“that fact is well established and adds nothing to the plot.”
“i wanted him to be hard, to be strong. i taught him the lesson my mother and father taught me: to rely on no one. that love – fragile and fickle and raw – was nothing compared to power. he was a brilliant boy. he learned too well.”
“claimed me? like a peninsula?”
“let me. it isn’t real. let me.”
“i’m used to being the center of attention wherever i go. i’ve been told I could charm the shoes off a racehorse midstride, and yet you seem impervious.”
“i make it a policy to never seduce anyone prettier than i am.”
“i wasn’t afraid of you. i was afraid of losing you.”
“you move forward, and when you falter, you get up. and when you can’t, you let us carry you. you let me carry you.”
“you were supposed to be my balance.”
“what if instead of stopping you, i’m just another avalanche?”
