Els jardins es van començar a construir el 1791 per Joan Desvalls Marquès de Llupia i d’Alfarràs. El gran estany fou construït el 1791. La casa de camp neoclàssica fou adossada a una antiga torre cilíndrica o talaia nomenada “Torre Sobirana”, construïda durant el segle XIV pels Vallseca.
