Why Asbestos should diagnosis before works or demolition

The asbestos diagnosis is mandatory for all properties whose date of construction dates back before July 1, 1997. It helps to rule out the risks of asbestos exposure, a product that is harmful to workers. In terms of asbestos diagnosis, there are different variants, including DDAT (asbestos diagnosis before work) and DDAD (asbestos diagnosis before demolition). What are the specificities of these?
Asbestos diagnosis before work or DDAT
Before starting renovation work on a building constructed before July 1, 1997, an asbestos diagnosis must be carried out on the structure of the building; this is the DDAT.
The latter aims to detect the presence of asbestos in the construction materials of the building to rule out any risk of exposure to the employees who will come to work on the site.
It should be noted that before 1997, asbestos was massively used in construction for its insulating qualities. It was also found in the paints and other coatings of the house. As renovation or restoration work can degrade or destroy part of the asbestos building, an asbestos diagnosis must be carried out before starting the work.
A certified diagnostician must carry out the DDAT because only he can respect the established specifications. He will have to wear protective equipment during his investigation. Its mission will be to:
·       Determine whether the building materials contain asbestos or not.
·       Identify the type of asbestos detected.
·       Locate their presence at the building level.

Asbestos diagnosis before demolition or DDAD
DDAD has many similarities to DDAT because:

·       It must be carried out before opening the site.
·       He must identify the presence of asbestos in the building.

The only difference lies in the purpose of the work. The DDAT is carried out before renovation work, while the DDAD is carried out before partial or total demolition of a building.
