Pre-Boruto Konohagakure Central Locations

1. Ninja Academy:
Used heavily for both military and domestic affairs, established by the Nidaime Hokage, Tobirama Senju. It has been expanded many times to reach its current size, and the curriculum changed with new generations. It is found at the base of the Hokage mountain, this building also contains the administrative division where the Hokage office is located.
The jōnin station is near here, and as the heart of the villages power, they congregate at this location when not on duty to wait on the Hokage’s order, or in case of an emergency. On top of the building is the terrace where Team 7 first told Kakashi, and each other, their dreams for the future. The Hokage mountain can be viewed from this spot, which during emergencies, residents of Konoha can assemble at it.

2. Hokage Residence:
Passed down from the Shodai Hokage, Hashirama Senju, this mansion is the residence of the current village leader. Its located near the academy and Hokage mountain, making it an ideal location.
The building contains many forbidden and dangerous scrolls, juts, and other top secret information, making it a highly sought after place for intruders, even before taking into account that the Hokage also lives there.

3. Konoha Hospital:
The Konoha hospital contains both civilian doctors and medical-nin. Although most of the staff are skilled enough for basic treatment, special cases and certain emergencies mean that the higher skilled medics are required. Research in medicine and jutsu development occurs here.
4. Movie Theatre:
Located on one of the largest roads in Konoha, the cinema is a popular site for adults. This may be due to the influx of Make-Out (Icha Icha) fans, as these R-rated screenings are often sold out for days. Young people do also frequent the cinema, with Princess Gale movies becoming well liked. Tickets for admission to the Make-Out (Icha Icha) viewing are around 180ryo per person.
At the bookstore, the Make-out Paradise volume 1-3 and Make-Out Violence books are sold at 120ryo each, the price of Make-Out Innocence and Make-Out Tactics is unknown, but thought to be similarly priced.

5. Yamanaka Flowers:
This is a flower shop run by the Yamanaka clan, like an invitation to the land of dreams, the shop is filled with beautiful colours and scents. It was opened during the time of the Shodai Hokage, meaning its been ran for over 60 years.

6. Naruto’s Neighbourhood:
Near the academy, always bustling with people. It contains many old shops.

7. Ichiraku Ramen:
A favoured ramen shop within Konoha, founded 34 years before Shippuden by Teuchi, and ran alongside his daughter. Its popular amongst the old and young, famous for their strong commitment to taste and the tonkotsu they serve.

8. Konoha Tea Avenue:
A row of tea and sweet shops with a great view of the Hokage mountain. A famous shop here is the Amaguriama sweet shop, known for its kuriyoukan (chestnuts and sweet bean jelly), and their kuri zenzai (chestnuts and red bean paste soup). It also contains the Dango shop Team 10 visit.

9. Shushu-ya:
A Chinese restaurant selling huge plates of food and their own brand of sake.

10. Reservoir:
A reservoir within Konoha, and a frequent waiting spot for Team 7.

11. Naruto’s Place:
Naruto’s apartment consisted of an open plan kitchen and bedroom, a bathroom (11), a toilet (10), and a small training room covered with no windows. As shown in the below illustration the main room has the entrance to the apartment (1), shelves for shoes (2), a box of ramen (3), a sink to wash dishes (4), cupboards (5), Naruto’s old goggles on a shelf above his bed (6), an under bed storage area (7) and a mirror (8). The training room has a mini (and exhausted) Kakashi plush (9). Naruto is very fond of plants, as can be seen by his collection. His bedroom window is east facing, so the room gets plenty of natural light.

Honourable Mentions
Konoha Hot Springs:
Dozens of hot springs to help shinobi relax, or even train. The hot springs are divided by gender.
Yakiniku Q:
This is a Korean restaurant within Konoha, shinobi teams frequent the place after missions or in times of celebration. Their most popular dish is salted beef tongue with welsh onion.
Hokage Rock:

Konoha Organisations
The Konoha shinobi society is organised into several units placed under the control of the Hokage. Each unit has Jōnin or Special (Tokubetsu) Jōnin in charge of it, and they report to the Hokage and his advisers.
The Hokage sits at the top of the society, discussing issues with their Advisors. The two official advisers of Hiruzen Sarutobi are Mitokado Homura, and Utatane Koharu, living through the previous wars together.
The Jōnin Commander supports the Hokage, aiding in directing the villages units and representing the regular forces.
Some groups and units known only the the Hokage and higher ranking individuals. ROOT was one of these secretive organisations, a sub-division of the ANBU initially shut down by the Sandaime, illegally operated until it was finally disbanded after Danzo Shimura’s death during the Godaime reign.
Operations Unit:
In other words, regular shinobi forces which are the backbone of the system. Teams or specific individuals handle the majority of the missions that the village receives, and are also tasked with other duties such as education, administration, etc. Most ninja are in this division, from genin, chūnin, special jōnin and jōnin.
Medical Corps:
The medical teams and medical-nin within this sector support the general shinobi forces through healing the sick and injured whether in village (coordinating with ordinary doctors) or on the battle field. They develop new techniques, study medicines, research diseases and further their anatomy understanding to advance their healing capabilities. They are divided into several groups by speciality, such as emergency staff or technical research. Some medical-nin are skilled enough to join regular forces and are called field medical-nin.
ANBU:
This division is under direct control of the Hokage, and only accept order from them. They are covert operatives who specialise in spying, assassination, and other difficult or risky missions. The Hokage selects them personally, regardless of age or gender, and they are meant to be the most elite of the forces. The individual units are composed according to the goal and difficulty of their missions.
Konoha Intelligence Division:
This organisation within the village is composed of many sub-divisions, such as the Konoha Torture and Interrogation Force which is a special division headed by Ibiki Morino. Prior to the fourth shinobi war, they worked alongside the Analysis Team which was headed by Inoichi Yamanaka. Prisoners or the dead are kept here here to extract information from them for the benefit of Konoha.
- Chūbu appears to be a modern ranking in Konoha given to Sai, and implies it may be a type of support unit.
- The Twenty Platoons (Nijū Shōtai) were created by the Godaime, Tsunade Senju, to search for the Akatsuki. It consisted of twenty teams of four individuals.
—————————————-
Outside of Konoha, other lands follow their own customs and culture which creates a different type of organisation within the individual villages.
*Shinobi Ruler/Head Shinobi - A rank found within Kumo above jonin, they’re given the authority to represent their village’s interests.
*Kinkaku Force was an elite team of twenty shinobi from Kumo, which is now disbanded.
*Hunter Squads - A special unit of Kiri’s own Hunter-nin, created solely to hunt down and dispose of rogue shinobi/missing-nin, they possess medical and assassination training to aid their goals.
*Twelve Guardian Ninja are a group of twelve elite shinobi invited by the Land of Fire’s Daimyo to become his body guards.
*Puppet Brigade was a division in Suna of skilled puppeteers during the Second Shinobi War.
*Explosion Corps was an organisation within Iwa composed of individuals holding the explosion release kekkei genkai.
*Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist is an organisation of seven skilled individuals who wielded the legendary blades of Kiri.
(Fourth Shinobi War Divisions to be covered at a later date)

Konoha Academy History (all dates are approximate based on the data book)
According the the Official Fanbook, the Nidaime, Tobirama Senju, founded a shinobi training camp at the base of the Hokage cliff approximately 50-60 years before the start of the series.
The first term created 36 graduates, it begun as an educational venture to produce fresh shinobi, but soon merged with military and domestic facilities, becoming the academy around 40-50 years ago.
The Sandaime, Hiruzen Sarutobi, during his time as Hokage he carried out two expansions of the academy (first was 30-40 years ago, and the second 20-30 years ago) which refined the education and training systems, and upheld stricter standards on students.
To be accepted into the academy, there are three core requirements to be met:
1. You must love the village and hope to help preserve peace and prosperity.
2. You must have a mind that will not yield, able to endure hard training and work.
3. Be healthy in mind and body.
Instructors at the academy are chosen through selection exams, this practice started around 40 to 50 years before the series. They follow a motto coined when the academy was founded, ‘Development as shinobi with respect to individuality’, to promote an open minded environment for students to strengthen their bodies and minds.
Below is an image showing the delegation of shinobi to aid the academy system:

Konoha Mission Ranking & Fees
While not widely known, there is a tradition that recent graduates receive their first mission assignment directly from the Hokage.
Missions are distributed with rank, importance and individuals ability in mind. They are screened prior to being assigned, and given a rank reflecting the potential risks. Due to this, Jōnin are more likely to receive S & A ranked missions, Chūnin are often delegated B & C ranked missions, leaving the Genin to complete C & D ranked missions.
S-Ranks: Classified as missions relating to national secrets.
For all ranks, requests from other countries to participate/join war can be expected. Although, VIP assassinations, transportation of secret documents, ect. are the norm in this rank. Since the risk is higher than other ranks, the price reflects this, so requesting an S-Ranked mission has fees that start at 1,000,000 ryo.
A-Ranks: Missions that relate to village and country wide interests.
Like for S-Ranks, this can also involve requests from other countries to join war. However its often VIP guard duty, to subdue shinobi squads/enemy forces, and other similar matters. A-Ranked mission have fees between 150,000 ryo to 1,000,000 ryo.
B-Ranks: Missions are ones where conflict with other ninja is expected.
Requests to join war included. This rank usually involves spying/espionage, assassinations (including other shinobi), security and protection work. B-Ranked mission have fees between 80,000 ryo to 200,000 ryo.
C-Ranks: Missions where there is an expectation/likelihood of injury.
As well as requests from other countries for joining war, this ranks deals with security and protection work, behaviour investigations, the capture and disposing of wild animals, and non-shinobi agents (bandits, etc). C-Ranked mission have fees between 30,000 ryo - 100,000 ryo.
D-Ranks: Missions that involve no direct battle or risk of death.
Even though this rank includes requests from other countries for joining war. These missions are more domestic, for instance searching for missing pets, helping with harvests, babysitting and other errands. D-Ranked mission have fees between 5,000 ryo to 50,000 ryo.
Distribution of payment from the client to the shinobi is unknown, but i’n partial to the theory that once the village receives payment, it goes through a process of taxation and deduction of any relevant expenses, before being split between the shinobi who completed the mission.
