Let's learn more about sumo!

Featuring a match between Shodai and Tobizaru.

Gyoji : A gyoji is a referee in professional sumo wrestling. You will hear him shout "Hakkeyoi!" at the beginning of a match. Unlike this match here, typically the gyoji will try and not interfere with the action. Though they have been known to get knocked off the dohyo from time to time... Gunbai : The gyoji uses a paddle looking device called a war fan (the gunbai) to conduct each match. At the end of a bout he will point to the winner's side of the dohyo. Though disagreements can be made about his call, which is when the judges get involved and replays are used to make sure the win is given to the correct person.

Kenshokin : What is the white envelope a rikishi (sumo wrestler) receives after winning a bout? Inside the envelope is kenshokin, the prize money given to the winner. The money is usually provided by businesses. It's a way to publicise a company and its products. The company names are announced inside the arena, and their corporation banners are shown on the dohyo before a bout. A popular rikishi such as a yokozuna can earn a substantial amount for a victory.

Konoha Academy History (all dates are approximate based on the data book)

According the the Official Fanbook, the Nidaime, Tobirama Senju, founded a shinobi training camp at the base of the Hokage cliff approximately 50-60 years before the start of the series.

The first term created 36 graduates, it begun as an educational venture to produce fresh shinobi, but soon merged with military and domestic facilities, becoming the academy around 40-50 years ago.

The Sandaime, Hiruzen Sarutobi, during his time as Hokage he carried out two expansions of the academy (first was 30-40 years ago, and the second 20-30 years ago) which refined the education and training systems, and upheld stricter standards on students.

To be accepted into the academy, there are three core requirements to be met:

1. You must love the village and hope to help preserve peace and prosperity.

2. You must have a mind that will not yield, able to endure hard training and work.

3. Be healthy in mind and body.

Instructors at the academy are chosen through selection exams, this practice started around 40 to 50 years before the series. They follow a motto coined when the academy was founded, ‘Development as shinobi with respect to individuality’, to promote an open minded environment for students to strengthen their bodies and minds.

I'm SO FUCKING PROUD of kiribayama kirishima, god we've needed a new ozeki since mitakeumi and shodai dropped down. tbh I still have a very small amount of bad blood for mita given how he sort of clung to his rank by pulling that dropout a while ago, but obviously I have bigger beefs (beeves?) to be grumpy about (still fucking livid about november don't come for me, also still pissy about ryuden but whatever at least he doesn't bring his shittiness into the ring). now if only wakatakakage and hosho (motoharu too?) could only get up there... god I miss kage, I hope he's doing ok 😔 not as much as I miss tochi obvs, but I'm still really really sore about his retirement don't talk to me lmao

one piece chapter 1113 spoilers

i'm curious if the sword that nusjuro gorosei has could rlly be shodai kitetsu

in this chapter the hilt and blade were finally more visible when he was seen using the sword, as opposed to in the previous chapters where the focus wasn't on the details of how it looked, but more on the attacks themselves (if i remember correctly)

it looks so similar to zoro's sandai kitetsu:

"Sandai Kitetsu is a moderately curved katana with a white edge and a distinct blue hamon that has the appearance of flames. Its tsuba is golden and shaped like a rounded cross pattée." (x)

and to nidai kitetsu (that luffy had in wano for a brief time)

"Nidai Kitetsu is a moderately curved katana with a light purple edge and a distinct blue hamon that has the appearance of flames. Its tsuba is gold and shaped like a rounded cross pattée." (x)

it'd make sense the gorosei has one of the most powerful and legendary swords, as well as the first one in the kitetsu line

I passed on him initially, but after seeing posts of how nice he looks, I just had to get him. He looks fantastic to the point where I like him more than I do the recent Gigantic 54 I got last year. He's got the wicked sense to him, and those fangs are pretty gnarly.

(On a complete side note, sumo is honestly the best sport for ADHD folks. Matches are usually very quick—enough to fit in a single gif—and plenty to obsessively learn about if you’re the hyper-fixation type.) ... (Hi, it’s me, I'm the hyper-fixation type.)

1] Being adverse to stairs because of the whole thing with Kuina, Tashigi helps Zoro up them when the occasion arrives. While most of the time she flings him over her shoulder like he did with her in Punk Hazard, there are some instances where she handholds his own and makes up the stairs surely but slowly as not to make him panic that much. Zoro argues that it's just faster to go around but Tashigi isn't buying that excuse because his other way would just get them lost.

2] Zoro doesn't like the fact that Tashigi got a cursed sword during the time they haven't seen each other in awhile. Not because it was the highest Kitetsu in the world but because he's worried that the blade might kill her. Tashigi assures him that the sword is crying and hasn't had anyone to take care of the blade in awhile, claiming Zoro to be jealous that she had the better grade. Grumbling, Zoro has his eye on Shodai and threatens the sword underneath his breath on a daily basis. Just picture the 'What do you have there?' meme and Tashigi saying, 'A knife!'. Cue Zoro saying 'Nooooooooo!!!'.

HEAVY CHATTER BUZZED IN THE SHODAI'S OFFICE , Madara was negotiating with two foreign investors presenting their projects of a collaboration with the Medical Academy; research and development with raw materials from the Land of Tea. The investors had a herb venture they wished to expand in Konohagakure.

In the air unseen, Madara could feel his chakra spilling forth chills.

Madara perceived that some officials must be bothering Tobirama somewhere outside his office. Thus, Madara instructed the investors to make changes to their proposal appropriately with what he had ordained, and soon he left them to their discussion, closing the doors softly in search of the younger Senju. Madara was deadly curious about the commotion.

« Pathetic. This battle is beneath me. There is no honor killing insects. »

Were they talking about a mission ? Something so great that they needed Tobirama out of the village ? This alarmed Madara. Why didn't the officials pass this to the Mission Office to be vetted, but chose to bring it to Tobirama directly ?

Madara waited for a moment ere politely inserting himself into the conversation, causing several heads to bow to greet him nervously, ❝ Sh--Shodai .. heh, this surely is too mundane to require your eyes, Shodaime-sama. ❞ If they were aiming to praise his eternal mangekyo, they were doing a poor job of it. Talking about Madara's eyes only ever gave him pain and anger, remembering Senju Hashirama's disgusting betrayal.

So, definitely no favours here. Madara faced the officials directly, ❝ Why are you three causing a ruckus outside my office ? ❞ Monotone voice belied the irritation bubbling underneath, Madara choosing patience even under duress. He had half the mind to grab whatever they were holding in their hands, but reminded himself that as the Hokage, he needs to give others the benefit of the doubt.

Yes yes! Let me tell you some headcanons about Suna's daddy.

Reto Background Headcanons

Gender/Pronouns: Male (He/Him)

Sexuality: Homosexual

Like many of the other Kazekage, and even some other Suna shinobi, Reto has an affinity for controlling sand with his chakra.

His natural affinity is earth. He also possesses the wind and water nature releases.

His default expression and Suna’s ideologies at the time (reference our post on Old vs New Suna) gave the impression that he was cold, uncaring, and conceited. He was, however, none of the above.

He was strong, but far from being as powerful as the other kage at the time. His tenacity, leadership capabilities, and charisma are what led him to successfully create and lead Sunagakure.

Before his days as the kazekage, he traveled around to acquire supplies for the small desert village he grew up in. It was on these travels that he realized all the other small villages were in just as tough situations as his home.

The creation of a greater village was accomplished by Reto traveling from village to village and convincing them how a larger village would benefit them all.
