“i wouldn’t use it now, they know what you’re gonna do so they’ll shut it down before you can even get out the door.” she shrugs. “yeah, or maybe the goal is to leave us here and we all become brainless.”

“i wasn’t planning on using it. this place keeps my sister and i safe, why would i want to leave?” he asked. “i don’t think that’s the goal.”

“it’s a matter of deception. you tell them  something happened and they should go take care of it, they leave to check it out. perfect opportunity to make a break for it. yup.” she explained with a nod. “yeah, but everyone is practically a statue right now ‘cause they’re all hyped up on meds or just bored enough to sleep.”

“a matter of deception, huh? that’s a pretty smart idea. i don’t think i’ll use it but it’s smart,” he nodded. “i’m sure kat will think of something for everyone to do, or some other chaos will happen.”

“yep.” she shrugged. “it was actually kind of easy, except when i was actually close to leaving the grounds. one of the guards has stitches now, at least. seriously? this place keeps getting boring and boring.”

“there’s no way it was easy. there’s guards everywhere. he has stitches now?” kaiden asked with a shake of his head. “something interesting will happen soon, it’s got to.”

“And the guards just get kinder and kinder every time I go down to their ward.” She says, messing with the bandage on her arm. “I miss anything important again or should I just escape one more time to make this place more interesting?”

“you got out? i heard a rumor but i didn’t think you actually did it,” he spoke, “you really didn’t miss anything. it’s been pretty calm around here lately.”

“I think so. We have to hurry though or else someone will totally beat us to it. New ice cream doesn’t stay around for long so I’ve noticed.” 

“i’m pretty sure most of the kids aren’t independent enough to get their own ice cream so i think there will be some left.”

“You’d be surprised how some kiddos will turn their behaviour around for the prospect of some sugar. I don’t care as much about the older kids I guess, they can express their pain that way, it’s just the tinys.”

“Everyone who walks through my doors seems to have such a potty mouth recently! I think I’m at the point where I’m going to put a swear jar out during my sessions, or at least give them a goody if they don’t curse.”

“i don’t think giving them a goody is going to help. most of the kids who swear aren’t going to care about it.”
