There was always something about Kaiden that put Luca right on edge. Maybe it was because of the gang alliance, maybe it was because Luca knew Kaiden could use any information he gave against him. Maybe it was just the spelling of his name that fucked him up. Either way, the unease seemed to put him a little more… off center than normal.  “I’m not entirely sure, actually,” Luca replied, grabbing a dirty beer glass from the bar to clean. “I’ve yet to find a misdemeanor horrible enough for them to fire me, so I guess there’s that.” He flashed a grin and shrugged,  sarcasm bleeding into his voice. “Plus, I get to deal with lovely people such as yourself.”
Tumblr media
Raising his glass to his lips, Kaiden couldn’t help the smirk that rose to his expression. After taking a small sip, he set it back down, steepling his fingers together as he looked at the other, chin on top of his middle fingers. The sarcasm was nearly enough to make him roll his eyes, but he refrained - just barely. “Oh, dollface, I know I’m lovely. That’s why there’s practically a line of people just waitin’ to sleep with me.” Perhaps bragging wasn’t the best idea he’d ever had, but he couldn’t quite help himself -- after all, he knew that Luca wasn’t going to pull a gun on him right now, given the fact that he was working; bad time and place for him, which meant a good one for Kai. “Just a little weird to me that you’re working. Doesn’t the night job bring in more than enough for you to live comfortably?” The night job referring to the Renegades, of course.

Kaiden wouldn’t particularly describe their so-called ‘unspoken alliance’ with the Renegades as one of his favorite things. He understood that the Renegades had what they needed, and that the Delights had what the Renegades needed, but that didn’t mean that Kai had to be happy about it. No one was his enemy, sure, but nobody was his friend, either. With that being said, looking across the bar at the Renegade, Kaiden found a little bit of (perhaps unfair) irritation growing in him. “Why do you still have this job, exactly?”

“Did you see that, too, or am I tripping balls?” While every night in the City of Lights was filled with unusual sights and sounds, Kaiden was nearly positive that he wasn’t high. He wasn’t voluntarily high, to say the least, so, if he was high, and hallucinating things that vivid, he had a whole separate issue on his plate. Best case scenario, that was real, and he and the kid he was next to could figure out where to go from here.

a nice night for a drink? sure. every night was a nice night for a drink in poet’s opinion. but agreement? boring. and poet was no boring bitch. “no,” he said easily, despite the drink in his hand. almost to accent the contradiction in his words, he lifted his glass purposefully to his lips and took a sip. he kept his eyes trained on the violent delight, managing to look both calm and on edge, which was perhaps his main talent, if anything poet did could be considered a talent. “you come all the way out here to talk about neon, man? seems like that could have been sent in a text.”
Tumblr media
Rolling his eyes at Poet’s remark, Kaiden raised his glass to his lips simultaneously, allowing himself to enjoy the drink he’d ordered. Every night in this city was full of its own ups and downs; depending on where you were within the Zones could mean that you’d have the best night ever or the worst, depending on what sort of havoc was wreaked each night of the week. Tilting his head to the side to convey that no, he hadn’t come all the way out there just to talk, Kaiden set his drink down on the bar. “Guess not,” he answered honestly. “Tell me what you’ve got for me, then, Poet. I’m all ears; the stage is yours, babe.”

What was the most harmless intrusive thought you had?
For Nine, it was always, always, ‘I could just smoke that person’s cigarette,’ or occasionally its cousin, ‘I could just take a sip from that drink.’ Chalk it up to old habits dying hard, maybe—you grew up eating the leftovers off somebody else’s abandoned plate, then you never stopped looking for aways to skim just a little off the top, just enough to warm your belly but not enough for anyone to noticed. But Nine was pretty sure she just had some kind of fixation on the absolute cultural taboo it was to, like, fuckin’ latch your mouth onto a complete stranger’s cigarette and just breathe. But she could do it. And that was where her mind went when Kaiden started talking after she’d ordered her bourbon (neat). I could just smoke that guy’s cigarette.
“Is it? A nice night, I mean,” she asked, and cocked her head like she really had to think about this for a minute. Around Nine’s right eye was the red rim of what would become a shiner tomorrow, flecked with the darker spots of broken blood vessels underneath her skin—oh, you know, Nine Granville got herself decked in the face again; it happens. “Yeah, sure, I guess it’s an okay night. I got a killer fuckin’ headache, though, dude, does anybody have, I dunno, an aspirin?”
Tumblr media
Looking over at the person sitting beside him, Kaiden tilted his head slightly. Giving her a once-over, it was pretty easy for him to tell that there was a black eye forming around her right eye. “Who decked you?” He asked, gesturing with the hand that was holding his drink. He’d been punched in the face before - not one of his fondest memories, to say the least. That was a question that he asked out of sympathy. Maybe later, he’d find out what she did in order to get punched.
Taking another drag from his cigarette, he shook his head. “Can’t say I do. I don’t think I know a single motherfucker in this city who carries around aspirin. I got a cigarette, though, if you want one’a those.” Reaching into his pocket to pull out his pack, he raised an eyebrow as he waited for either a confirmation or a denial of his offer. “Is the headache associated with the whole punched-in-the-face thing, or is it some whole... other affair?”

It was one of those nights - Kaiden was out on the town, per se, keeping an ear to the ground, doing his job in the most menial way. The most fun he’d be having that night came from a drink in his hand and a cigarette between his fingers. There was something comforting about the thought of a cigarette; there had been numerous advancements in technology over the past century, but the cigarettes remained the same.
Looking up as he heard a voice beside him, he gave the other a smile. “Nice night for a drink,” he commented, nodding a little bit. “The neon’s seemin’ extra bright tonight, isn’t it?” A simple comment, allowing the other to direct their conversation, Kaiden’s specialty. Offering to pay for their first drink, too - he was in it for the long haul for even the most menial of details. For a minor detail from six people could make one crucial detail in Kaiden’s mind.

                    O’HARA, KAIDEN | VIOLENT DELIGHTS
One could call Kaiden a strategist, of sorts. Others may call him an information specialist. Kaiden has never put a name to his job merely for the sake of appearances. Ask him what he does and he’ll lie. He won’t even outwardly admit to being a part of the Violent Delights, despite the Morse Code tattoo down his spine making it obvious to those who know.
These Violent Delights have Violent Ends.
It began with an ending. Kai’s father, Nic O’Hara, was a Violent Delight long before Kaiden himself was. Kaiden and his father were never close - Nic always seemed to put the gang before family, and, in this city, no one could blame him. Perhaps that’s where Kaiden’s authority issues come from; he never had someone telling him no, so he continued to tell himself yes. Yes to drinking, to drugs, to anything anyone ever proposed to him. If it was dangerous, reckless, or otherwise stupid, Kai was never known to deny it.
He lived his life like that - a loner, not part of any gang - until six years ago. He was nineteen when his father was killed. No one knew how it happened, no one knew who did it. Kaiden’s relationship with Nic was rough at best - no one would be wrong to say that he was the paradigm of daddy issues - but the murder of his father filled Kaiden with a rage that was never-ending, all-consuming, sending fire through his veins. That was when Kaiden joined the gang, solely to get revenge, at first.
Kai started off as a runner. Minor, menial tasks that he hated to do. They were no fun, no adventure, no intrigue, no appeal to him, and certainly no way to get the revenge he so craved. It was only when he slowly began to earn leadership’s trust that he moved his way up.
They call him an information specialist. In Kai’s mind, it’s his job to find out as much as he can about potential allies to and enemies of their operation in whatever way possible. He’s slept with countless people to gain countless amounts of information which led to advancements for their gang. And, while Kaiden has started to truly enjoy what he does, he hasn’t lost sight of his search for revenge.
Even with that, he allows himself to enjoy the Violent Delights and his position he’s earned over the past half decade. He’s never quite satisfied, though, and he won’t be until his revenge is earned.
