Tumblr media
"...Seoyu, a new debut under KQ ENTERTAINMENT, backup dancer turned Idol. They are taking upon a genderless concept, showing up to their debut stage of "Containment" from their debut album, "Escape the Mind", Announcers found themselves unsure of how to introduce a Soloist who had not slotted into a gender immediately, and who would not conform to just the one gender, so settled on "A Soloist who chooses to not Conform" and let the performance speak for itself..."
Translated by Papago from Korean
"...The Soloist has been immediately popularised by the western community, their unique background and new concept, has proved them to be relatable to the audience. Their music is so far empowering on the surface but a story underneath, a theme almost Rampant in KQ Entertainment's idol's music..."

[KANG SEOYU FIRST MINI-ALBUM RELEASE - ESCAPE THE MIND]
060525
Tumblr media
and.. Rolling
1:25
A lyricless piece of music, following a similar pattern to the album. Beginning in a minor key, the music starts strong with classical music. Piano pushed together with violas to make a chilling yet emotional sound. The crescendo drags up, and then, a slow transition to the major key, the happy tones are fleeting, and only a few seconds pass before the abrupt sadness of the ending comes back.

Corruption
3:42
A song meant to encompass the way depression takes over the mind. "Corruption" starts fast, the fall into depression showing off how quick it can catch someone, and while it seems to slow over the course of the song, the beating of the backing drums never seems to slow, Seoyu said that 'depression lingers in the same way' when asked about the unusual beat choice.
Tumblr media
Misunderstanding
4:03
"Written and produced in French. Seoyu, while not speaking French fluently themselves, wrote "Misunderstanding" in a language the K-pop audience is unlikely to understand. Native speakers of French have called the usage of their language beautiful in a way that is painful, but have confirmed the song is what it was meant to be." The song comes across desperate. Asking for assistance. Wanting someone to understand their needs, and help, but with the song being entirely in a language most won't understand, it goes without saying the song ends with a quiet scream. A way to release the pain, but not alert those who simply cannot understand their pleas.
Tumblr media
The Calm
3:28
Intentionally the shortest of the songs (excluding "and, rolling", as it is meant to be the introduction), "The Calm" is a steadier song. Running at a faster pace, and being in C-Major. Fans have compared it to one of the group's at the company, Ateez's, song, "Eternal Sunshine", though, theirs is in G-Minor, their point stands, considering the similarities in the upbeat happiness of "Eternal Sunshine" and the cheery joy of "The Calm"
Tumblr media
Moving On
5:26
"Moving On" begins as if a continuation of "The Calm", but by the end of the song is going back to the tones and key of "Misunderstanding". The song is the only mostly English song in the album, "Moving On" tells us the story of how Seoyu, or possibly someone they are singing about, used to have issues staying happy or "in-character" to themself, and follows them through the fall. They start joyful, glad to have moved on from that time, and then they hit a rough patch, and are back to square one, they tell the listeners, in a broken English, riddled with French, riddled with Korean, "I can't do this anymore", but the result is hard to find, and English-speaking fans have remarked "It feels like I should understand them, but I can't"
Tumblr media
The Storm
5:57
The album's longest track, meant to again, assist in the messaging that it can be never-ending, has been simply described as a call for help. Seoyu has made it clear that this song was written in their darkest times, and they have gotten out of this state now, and it shows through in everything the song says. The themes of the song are strong, but are never fully described, and on it's own, it could be similar to "Corruption", but has been described as the most unique compared to the other album's tracks. Some Fans have called it a slower version of Ateez's "Desire", but others have trouble seeing most of their reasoning.
