The Kindness of Strangers
Today I got a knock on my bus. The dreaded knock, right? It wasn’t what I thought it would be though. When I finally got up to check it out, a man was standing outside the side doors, waiting patiently. He introduced himself as the owner of a local hotel and he had noticed my bus in his parking lot. I immediately got defensive and asked if he didn’t want me to park there anymore and that I…

It's been a year
A year ago today, I left my house of 20-some years that I had packed up and put into storage, and hit the road. I packed my clothing, blankets, and a few totes, as well as my camping gear in my Rav4 and left. Some would say that was madness, some would say how brave, some would say, “Wow, what an adventure.” They would all be right. I was so unhappy, for so long, in that house that all the bad…

So, I bought something to make my travels a little easier
Well, living out of my little RAV4 was a bit chaotic. I couldn’t for the life of me get organized. Plus, Doc, as I called my RAV4 (because my book Doctored paid for it ~ Best-seller, check it out), has developed rust-rot. Due to being located in Wisconsin for so many years, the salt on the highways ate at the poor vehicle and rusted out the bottom. Two mechanics recommended I get rid of it…

Sometimes we wake up in the most spectacular places
I had to drive late into the night for some personal business reasons and I couldn’t help but take these pictures of where I ‘ended’ up. Oh my, I had no idea what was around me when I stopped at the rest stop for the night. Mount Adams was visible that morning Mount Rainier was visible as well. These were the Selah Cliff’s below me.

Wall of Trees
It was amazing out beyond Forks and Ruby Beach and further into the peninsula. The trees are more dense than any I have ever seen and they continue on up the mountains. I have to come back to camp here and take more pictures, perhaps video. Follow along and enjoy. I didn’t take pictures of the harvest areas because the devastation was so disturbing, but at the same time, some of it was…

Ruby Beach, Washington State
After all my traveling, I finally could smell the Pacific Ocean, clear, without anything but the trees in the way and I soon hiked down to get around them and see it once again after all these years. It smells different. All the bays and inlets, it wasn’t the same. This was pure Pacific and I really breathed deep. Looking at all those logs that I had to climb over to get to the beach, all I…

Forks, yes, the one where they made the vampire movie
Let me state up front, no vampires were harmed in the taking of these pictures. No, I didn’t SEE any vampires that know of… Gnomeville, Forks, Washington State

To the border of Canada from Washington State
Look at how lush the trees are up here! Isn’t it beautiful? And the randomness of the mountains before me, it’s amazing. Up in Blaine, Washington, looking across at Canada Rockhound paradise?

Chuckanut Drive
I decided to take a drive the other day, and thought you’d enjoy the pictures of this 24 mile stretch of the coast. I wish the camera could convey how winding this road really is. The pull-outs are something. Please, if you brought it into the forest, take it out with you. Litter is so disgusting! I also cannot show you in a mere camera shot the steep incline there is along this coast. The…

Pay it forward
I have travelled for 5 months now. During that time I’ve learned a lot not only about myself but other people.Today I had the opportunity to help someone. As I was driving by a strip mall I saw a camper with its hood up. The universal sign of, hey I’m having car trouble. They also happened to have jumper cables sitting out, which told me they probably needed a jump start. Now Doc is not a…

Watch for attack ducks
Last night I watched the most gorgeous sunset. It wasn’t the sun itself that made it gorgeous but the place I found myself in. I sat on a park bench next to a pond and I fed the ducks. Now I keep corn and sunflower seeds in a bag in a tote in my car. I rarely feed them bread because processed bread is bad for wildlife. Although I grew up among ponds we fed our ducks and geese and birds all…

Checking out Libraries
Today I’m in the Harlingen, Texas library. I’m a stone’s throw away from the Mexican border. I’ve been across the border into Tijuana from California many times, but that was in the days when you didn’t need anything but your driver’s license. I need to update my passport, so I won’t be going down there, yet. Meanwhile, I thought you would enjoy the pictures I took of my visit. The library…

Camping
Day One Well, I left my aunts. It’s Friday, March 15, 2024. I’ve decided to head over to the Hot Springs area and actually use the hot springs for the aches and pains that I’ve accumulated over the last few weeks. Moving was hard on this ole body and the arthritis is strong in its reminder that I’m getting old! Perhaps I should have chosen a better time to wind my way out of the hills. The…
