Let's share the fruit of fate.

Why are people born? If people are born only to suffer, is it meant as some kind of a punishment? Or a cynical joke? If that’s the case, animals that adhere to the survival strategies programmed in their DNA…are far more elegant and simple. If there really is an existence worthy of being called “God,” I want to ask him just one thing. Is there really fate in the universe? If a man ignored his fate and his instincts and his DNA’s commands…to love someone… Dear God, is he really human? Just wondering. I hate the word “fate”. { Kanba Takakura roleplay blog, associated with Academy of Despair } { 0 Kills, 0 Deaths }

The first thing that came to Kanba’s mind when the other boy offered to help him search for “books” (more accurately said as “magazines”) of his preferred genre was simply the word “no” over and over again. The depressing kid may be depressing, but Kanba sure as hell wasn’t going to taint their innocence—but only because he constantly associates “innocent people” with Shoma and Himari, who he also believes should remain ignorant of the world beyond.

Kanba hadn’t really realized it until now, but it had been seemed like over a thousand years since he last flirted with a damsel. Well, there was that one time when he tried to mess around with this one girl who had strange ears, but that didn’t end so well, and he supposed he began to become more wary after that.
Anyways, it didn’t feel right to go on so long without teasing at least one girl, though preferably someone who won’t chase him around the entire building all the while threatening to kill him, so Kanba decided he might as well do some light fooling around today in the cafeteria. His eyes scanned around the lunchroom surreptitiously and were quick to find a lone lass eating by herself. Despite the fact that he only had an apple in hand as of right now, he supposed he could just go with the classical “let’s eat together” approach for once. It was harmless and only subtle; it wasn’t like he would get chased around again this time.

“Good morning, madam; you don’t mind if I sit here, do you?” Kanba greeted the latter courteously.

The recreation room was a nice touch for this school, Kanba admitted, since it did give him a distraction from all this absurdity. It was a shame that he still wasn’t able to find any issues of his favorite magazine—but he supposed that he had been hoping for too much when he prayed to find anything close to what he liked to read. Anyways, since Kanba had wasted just about two hours, at minimum, in the recreation room, it was really about time he moved on and fetched himself a snack or two to feast on; his stomach was nearly empty by now. The most recent time he had something to eat was this morning—which was breakfast—but it had already been quite a while since then, too.
He stood up with much uncertainty from the chair he’d been lazing about in the recreation room for hours, obviously hesitant to leave the cozy seat. He’d spent so long making sure he was comfortable and situated, it anguished him to have to get his lazy butt up. Hope’s Peak Academy definitely needed room service, unless the bear thing purposely left out the room service to get his prisoners to fall into despair quicker. If that was the case, the bear was smarter than Kanba initially thought.
Oh, he was at the door already—well, time to say goodbye to the serene recreation room for now; he turned the knob and pushed the door open, only to feel another force from the other side that stopped the door in its tracks.
Tumblr media
…Did he just hit somebody in the face with the door? Yeah, he did. Whoopsie. “I… didn’t see you there! Sorry friend, I didn’t hurt your face too badly, did I?” Kanba chortled awkwardly while unsure of what to do with the door now, he couldn’t push it out any further, nor could he pull it back since that would be shutting the door in the other’s face. A+.

Recently, Kanba had become interested in the doodles that were drawn on the blackboards of all the classrooms he has seen. Whenever he had the free time, he’d find himself to be exploring all the many different classrooms of the three opened floors, reading whatever cute messages or drawings had been left behind from people before. Once or twice, he’d let out a soft chuckle for a few seconds or two before moving onto the next.
Tumblr media
He entered another classroom after finishing up his visit to the previous, his eyes immediately traveling to and scanning the chalkboard of the new room. This one had several poorly-made chalk drawings sprawled all over the place—drawings that reminded him of the pictures sketched by colorful crayons in the art room. As there wasn’t much to see, and because he had been touring the academy for an extensive amount of time, Kanba was just about to leave the room and retire for the day—until he heard some strange noises coming from a different chamber. Curiosity killed the cat; the redhead aborted all plans to return to his room for now, and focused on finding out what the source of those repetitive bird peeps were instead.
Silently, he slipped down the hallway, hiding behind an occasion pillar, until he reached the end, where he finally located the source of the chirpings. Some kid with foreign pet birds was fooling around in an empty room. Well, less like fooling around, more like absolutely babying them. For a while, Kanba stood at the door, watching with amusement. Soon enough, he decided to call them out for the kicks, though, “Hey! Nice birds you have there!”

“There is a map of the fictional land and a few pieces of concept art for some of the creatures in the beginning of the book, though other than that, you are correct,”
Tumblr media
“Most books lack pictures, though,”
He had never read a book without pictures before? My, how much of an imbecile was he? It was surprising that someone didn’t know something so…standard.
“…Is there any reason you are here?”
Tumblr media
“You don’t seem to be the reading type…”
Please leave already-
Most books lacked pictures? What a white lie! If Kanba weren’t so lazy, he’d be shoving several picture books in this kid’s face. Again, this kid was saved from their torturous would-be fate, this time by Kanba’s lazy nature. Because otherwise, his pale face would be getting acquainted with several colorful, picture-filled books.
Speaking of why he was here in the first place…
Tumblr media
“Oh, right; I was actually looking for something, but it seems like it’s not here. What a shame…” Kanba sighed, a bit depressed. He was really hoping to find at least something of that genre if all else failed.

himatakakura:
Himari was much happier and content to have found someone she knew, and could comfort her about the whole switch. Kanba’s enlightened tone had also made her feel a bit more joyful, though she was quite surprised when he suddenly switched moods altogether. Pulling her arms away from him and looking up to see just how his facial expression looked, she blinked a few times. Listening to his rambling, the sandy brunette crossed her arms and looked to the side, pretending to pout.
“I could ask you the same thing, mister!” She exclaimed, then dropped the ruse by turning back to face him with a proud smile. “I made it here because I’m your super high school level little sister.” Although followed by a sigh and a drop of the whole expression and playfulness, she really was proud that she was accepted somewhere for being exceptionally good at the thing she loved most.
Tumblr media
But why did it have to be such a dangerous place? Let alone, why did she have to find the people she loved to be in this school, when they deserved so much better?  The same thoughts continued to haunt her as she stood, contemplating on how to explain her arrival to him, though she couldn’t quite put it into words herself. The first thing she knew, she was standing outside of the school’s doors, but then… then something happened, and she woke up in a classroom desk? How odd. Would he ever believe that story?
He wasn’t sure what emotion he should be feeling at this point. He was tired and upset with the situation he was already in previously before meeting up with his little sister; he was kind of happy to know that Himari was up, alive, and in one piece, but he wasn’t too happy with where he found her. Of all places they could’ve been chosen to be reunited, why did it have to be in this despair-inducing academy? God was definitely still pushing onto the act of punishing him even after his erasure; he was absolutely, positively sure about that fact now. Kanba wishes he never met Himari momentarily, because she’s innocent yet always dragged into his penalties.
Why was God so cruel to involve virtuous people with the retribution of the sinful? What did Himari ever do to offend him?
He pushed those questions into the back of his head quickly; he still had his little sister’s safety to attend to. It was a good thing she was able to recall him even after Kanba was supposed to disappear, as it made enforcing her much easier. Though given, Himari was also occasionally defiant regardless; he doesn’t blame her wishing to be more independent, she’s grown now and no longer an infant—despite the fact that her older brothers seem to treat her otherwise. They protected her in earnest worry for her health—speaking of which, Himari should be a bit healthier now; it never hurt to make sure.
Tumblr media
“Himari… are you… okay now?” Kanba asked a bit hesitantly; he wasn’t sure if he worded it correctly, but he hoped he managed to get what he was trying to say across. “Ah—hey! Don’t look so down now, if you’re worried about this whole… unpleasant business, don’t worry! Big brother Kanba will protect you from the bad guys!”

What a jerk, giving Kanba such a broad idea of whatever the heck the guy was reading. If the kid won’t tell him, Kanba will find out himself—maybe if he just tilted his chair a little bit and strained his neck to look over their shoulder… Holy stuffed cabbage! The redhead quickly faced his acquaintance with an amazed look on his face. How were they able to read such a long book with the tiniest font size and without pictures? So much words… that’s far from simple!
Tumblr media
“There’s no pictures…!” Gasp.

Oh, how nice, he was asking him even though I wouldn’t change anything if he objected.
“Oh, not anything special,”
Tumblr media
“A very simple read. I’ve already read it quite a few times, though, I didn’t have much of anything else to do, so I thought I might as well,”
Maybe Nageki could bore him away.

Perfectly fine temperature? Was the other immune to cold or something? Kanba was literally freezing to death in the library; while he could always just leave and go curl up in his room where it was warmer—a lot warmer, he also really wasn’t in the mood to move all the way downstairs just to go nap in his room. So instead, he pulled up a chair next to the depressing kid and casually sat there.
“’Hope you don’t mind me sitting next to you, because I’m not leaving.” Kanba stated. “Anyways, what’cha reading there, buddy?”

“Cold?”
He gave the other a bit of a look.
“What is it that you are talking about?”
Tumblr media
“It’s a perfectly fine temperature in here,”
If it were a particularly cold temperature, he would notice; he was a bit sensitive to colder temperatures, despite being a dove.
He wondered why this person was even bothering with this conversation, it wasn’t like Nageki was all too interesting, not in looks or personality.

Kanba was absolutely sick of this place. It hadn’t even been a full week and he was absolutely sick of it; the mutual killing business, his supposedly classmates succumbing to despair, a crazy toy bear as a headmaster—everything about this place was messed up. Hope’s Peak Academy? Anyone who graduated here would be promised to have successful futures? Successful futures with the guilt of mass-murder! Once Kanba fishes out the true identity of the one behind all of this madness, he was surely going to make them pay. Kanba had found Shoma recently, and needless to say, he wasn’t quite happy with the fact that he found him with injuries. Thankfully, Himari wasn’t here, or at least he hoped; she was supposed to be living a happier life now, after all…
He sighed; he shouldn’t think too deep into it. Himari was surely free from harm and living in a much more peaceful, safer lifestyle now. Hopefully, the fate transfer also rid of her illness and made her a bit healthier; perhaps God hadn’t been so cruel and actually granted his wishes this time… he really was expecting a lot out of God now, wasn’t he? …The redhead was feeling a bit tired, so he proceeded to head to his room and retire—ignoring a vast majority of his surroundings. He hadn’t been able to sleep that well at night all thanks to having a wild imagination that would create unpleasant scenarios of what may happen to his little brother while he wasn’t around. Honestly, he wished Shoma wouldn’t be so helpless outside of household chores. Then, maybe Kanba wouldn’t have to be so anxious.
Tumblr media
The redhead heard a low thump somewhere in the distance, but Kanba chose to ignore it. Someone probably hit their head on a wall or something; it’s not like it’s another murder going on right this second or his little brother getting overpowered and then murdered brutally by some crazy, unstable sadist—right? A shiver ran down his spine at the last thought; what was it with his imagination? He was a bit irritated until he felt arms wrap around his waist—or pulled into a really unexpected hug. He turned his head around and saw the last person he would’ve ever expected—Himari. “You found me!” Kanba played along happily before realizing something that was not that pleasant either.
Tumblr media
He turned a full one-eighty degrees to look at his aggressor face-to-face and paled slightly at having his suspicions, and worst nightmare, confirmed. “H… Himari… wh… what are you doing here?!”
Because I Love Him [closed]
It had felt like a century since the last time Himari had seen her family — or rather, what was left of it — and she couldn’t agree more that it had certainly taken a toll on her mood. Obviously, it hadn’t helped that she was stuck within this school of mutual (and eternal) killing, either. However, her mood was slightly enlightened by the fact that she still held onto a special slip of paper that she found in her pocket after she had woken up in one of the school’s desks. She hadn’t known where it had came from, or why it was with her, but she knew who had left it for her.
We love you!!
From your brothers
However the note had found her, she didn’t care — as long as she still had it in her possession, it gave her hope. Somehow, she felt as if the note was left by them, and she had made it her duty to find her brothers in this messed up school. Perhaps the worst hadn’t happened to them yet, and she would be lucky enough to find them in one piece.
So there she was, left wandering the dorm hallways, trying to find pictures and names that corresponded with the faces she had come to love over the years. Running the tips of her fingers down the hallway walls and doors, Himari scanned the name plates to find what she was looking for. So far, no good. There were a ton of students in this school, and she’d be lucky just to find Shoma and Kanba within the next three days, if they were even here.
Tumblr media
No. They were here, they had to be. All it would take was some patience and perseverance. After all, the note couldn’t have been faked — it was obviously their handwriting, Himari just had to—
SMACK!
“Ugu—!” Himari whined, bumping right into something from her lack of attention. She was so focused on finding the right nameplate, that as she reached the end of the hallway, she came face-to-face with the wall. Rubbing her poor, injured forehead, the sickly girl turned back around to finish her quest. However, what she saw was someone she never thought to see behind her.
Violet optics opened wide, accompanied by a small gasp that escaped from her lips. Rushing forward, her heart aflutter, Himari’s arms enclosed on the one person she wished to see most at the moment.
Tumblr media
“Kan-chan!!” She exclaimed, nuzzling softly into his chest, “I finally found you!”

Wow, what a cold response in a cold, cold place. Alas, he has finally stumbled upon the classic depressing and quiet kind of person, huh? It seemed so awfully convenient to find them in a hushed-up library; it always seemed to Kanba that libraries like this one were made for these types of people.
Normally he’d attempt to drag the bookworm out and into the sunshine because of how pale he looks as well as because of the below-freezing temperature in the library. However, he couldn’t do that; the windows were sealed shut with annoying steel plates, and the entrance was locked and blocked off from the rest of the world. This depressing, little reader should consider himself to be lucky, since the steel plates and all had just saved them from their fate of being literally dragged outside. “So… it’s rather cold in here, yeah? Aren’t you bothered by that at all?”

Nageki had been sitting in a chair, reading, when he felt something bump into his chair. He turned around to see a red head apologizing to him.
“It’s alright…”
Tumblr media
“But, please be more careful in the library next time…”
…It was one of those noisy people who only came to libraries for last-minute studying or to find books with sex scenes in them and laugh at them like immature idiots. Nageki disliked this type a bit.
They didn’t appreciate books.
People who didn’t appreciate books were horrible people in his opinion.
