Sometimes, Roger regretted agreeing to get a job. And most of the time, those times corresponded with when he was headed to work, and increased tenfold on days he had been working on his song before work. Today happened to meet all the criteria, and all he wanted to do was get through his shift and back home to perfect the next part. ( Or, perfect for this week. Come the week after, heâd be rewriting it again, and at this point he didnât even know if it was the same song heâd started. ) Heâd had his shitty, five dollar headphones that had made the trek from America over in his ears, blasting his favorite playlist when the girl ran face first into him, causing him to reach out and grab her by the shoulders to steady her so neither of them would fall. He frowned a bit, pulling an earbud out as he dropped his arms. â You in a rush or somethinâ? â
Karen could be distracted by anything, a toothpick if it caught her eye in the right way, the Katy Perry song that profoundly asked if youâd ever felt like a plastic bag was one of her favourites because if there was one twisting in the wind Karen would in all likelihood pause to look at it. So when there was a dog involved it was a no brainer, she just wanted to boop itâs little nose. With a loud exclamation as she banged headlong into the man the blonde giggled, but her eyes were still wide. âA rush? No! I just saw a dog andâŚlookâŚâ Turning to where the owner had lead it away as if showing how cute it was would excuse her recent action of almost making them both go headlong onto the floor. âI didnât hurt you did I?â Now there was concern in her voice as well as her eyes, top row of teeth sinking into her lip as she waited for him to answer.

âSO DO I, it seems like i canât stay away from them most of the time.â jd admitted as he watched her pull away and look down at him. karen was a very pretty girl, he could even appreciate that in the dim lights of a night club, âit was just a jack and coke, well, a few jack and cokes. i saw those orange drinks though, totally seems like something youâd be into.â he chuckled, hand resting on the side of her neck and the other neck resting on her thigh, eyes traveling down when she flaunted her top. âit looks nice, like really nice.â jd said, unable to stop staring at the curve of her breasts because, well, he was who he was. his tongue slipped along his lips as he watched her before he was able to drag his gaze back up when she mentioned regina. thank fucking god regina didnât join her, juggling the two of them at the same time wasnât on his agenda. âa sheet over her face? well, if she takes that over all of this fun, sheâs missing out.â he informed the girl with a smirk, motioning over his shoulders were a few of his guy friends were lingering and talking, âcame with those guys, a few coworkers, but i think youâre way better company.â
âYou know what would be funny? If your real name was Jack. Then I could call you jack and cokeâŚ.maybe I will anyway. You will be jack and coke to me.â She grinned, eyes twinkling every time the club lights hit them, still clinging to the man in a way she had no business doing. âYeah? I like it. But I like that you like it even more.â A sucker for words of affirmation she was already leaning forwards towards him a little which unbeknownst to her just increased his ability to see down the front of her shirt, not that Karen probably would have minded even if she had realised. âA sheet over her face! She said it gives her pawsâŚor takes away pawsâŚ? Anyway I asked if there was a dog there and she said no so I didnât want to go.â Looking up she glanced at the men behind him unable to recognise a single one, hardly surprising, so her attention quickly reverted back to JD. âYou are too! We can hang out together instead.â She was still draped all over him as if she had some kind of right to be there, not very good with personal boundaries, especially when she found someone attractive. âI got new cherry lipgloss.â Karen leant next to his ear to whisper with a grin. âIt tastes like cherry pie.âÂ

Oh jeezâŚthe situation got super sticky super fast. Cady carefully lowered her phone, taking a second to look at JDâs picture before making herself look at Karenâs face. As suspected from the tone of her voice, the girl looked crushed and Cady knew how she felt. She had a sneaking suspicion that she wasnât the only person JD was seeing, and now one of her best friends confirmed it. It sucked more than Cady imagined. âNo, KarâŚ.weâre not dating. It was just-â What? Just sex? Not for Cady, it wasnât. And not for Karen either, it seemed. Cady sighed, putting her phone away and grabbed Karenâs had. âRemember how I said I didnât think he was the girlfriend type?â She asked, trying to be strong for Karen. It was hard, what with her heart sinking down into her stomach. âThis is whyâŚIâm really sorry.â Cady squeezed her hand, silently praying that she understood. She couldnât have Karen mad at her. Not after everything thatâd happened and Karen had been so quick to forgive her. Could they really fight over some boy? MaybeâŚCady hoped not. âWhat do you want to do?â
Karen was trying not to overreact, she was always being told she was a drama queen, but it was hard when emotion was bubbling up inside her like a shaken up bottle of soda. In her eyes she had gone from being special in JDs eyes to beingâŚsomething that was getting in the way of her best friendâs happiness? Possibly. Her brain couldnât exactly work it out right now and that was the most frustrating part. âSoâŚwhen he was kissing meâŚhe was also kissing you? And having sex with you too?â For someone who was often prone to doing dumb things the blonde felt a whole new level of stupid right now. Sitting back from the phone and retracting her hand from the otherâs she looked down at her hands, fiddling with a ring on one of them, unable to look Cady in the eye. âIâm sorry, is he not the girlfriend type because of me? If I wasnât there then maybe you could date him and be happy. Then I wouldnât be happy but thatâs ok as long as you are happy, because that is what friends do âŚâ Tears were welling up in her eyes now, damn why did she have to be so obvious with her emotions all the time. There was no point trying to hide them either because the other knew her as well as she knew herself. âItâŚ.it is right though. Iâm sorryâŚI didnât mean it.â She whispered, boys never stayed around for her, or girls, she could get them into bed quickly but they always seemed to get out just as fast as well.

âI must say, that lip color really is fetch!â She smiled, holding back the small giggle at the reminder of the lingo sheâd been obsessed with in high school. âYou should wear it more often, maybe even let me borrow it?â Gretchen used her free hand to poke Karenâs arm, finally giggling as the otherâs excitement only grew. âOf course! What kind of best friend would I be if I didnât go with you to look at and hold all the puppies?! A very bad one, I think!â She let out a little âhmphâ and turned up her nose at the very idea. After a beat her voice softened and she shrugged. âSometimes people do want them, but they arenât able to take care of them. It doesnât always mean theyâre unwanted.â
âAhh you think so!?â Karen squeaked as she clapped her hands together in excitement. Sure Regina might have tried to squish the use of the word fetch all those years ago, but since the blonde knew it was the peak of compliments from Gretchen she always loved when it was bestowed upon her. âYou can borrow it anytime! I can buy you on!â She exclaimed, still holding tightly to the brunettes arm. Her excitement was mounting more by the second at the prospect of seeing small dogs that she might be able to pet. Dampened only by the thought of why they were there, frowning softly, who could ever ⌠not want a dog? It baffled her. Then again a lot of things baffled her. âIf youâŚwhy canât you take care of them? You love them, walk them, give them food and hugsâŚitâs not hard.â She murmured. âRight?â

his eyes widened slightly when she enthusiastically declared she got to stroke a dog. her giggles made him smile a little bit more, amused but not very surprised about it.  âbetter than people,â she said in response to her question and meaning it.  âdo you have one? you clearly like them.â as her hand stretched out, he took it, politely shaking before shoving it in his pocket.  âchino.â it was rare for him to ever give his actual name. aside from writing it on forms now and then, carlos almost didnât exist.
âSo much better than people!â Karen agreed with a bright grin and enthusiastic nod. God how she wished she had a dog, not that she knew exactly what was stopping her from getting one, it was certainly the kind of thing sheâd do. Go out one day and return with a puppy. It just hadnât happened yet. âI donât, Â but I love them so much.â Her hand went to her chest as she said that, another laugh bubbling up inside her. âChino! Hi! That is such a cool name, you know I donât think I ever heard it before.â Her focus faded as she thought about it for a moment before shaking her head. âNope! Never heard it before!â

Ok, so she was either a few marbles short, or she was crazy. He wasnât quite sure at this point. âDoesnât everyone know where their eyes are?â or at least a large proportion of people. âNice colour? Sure. But shouldnât trust people that easily love. Kindness is in actions, not eyesâ and he knew he wasnât kind. He had long since accepted that fact though, he wasnât about to lose sleep over it now. Kindness would have got him killed a long time ago. âI really donât. Respect to vampires, but not really my thingâ and the last thing he needed right now was anything more distinguishing. âSure there is someone who named their kid that⌠cruel reallyâ.
Karen paused, wondering if the question was meant to trip her up, before breaking out into a sweet smile once more. âNot all babies know! Not that you are a baby, Iâm just saying, I donât think youâre a baby. Ah Iâm sorry, was that rude?â Now she was panicky that sheâd somehow managed to offend this stranger with what was intended as a compliment, wishing she had someone who knew her nearby to help explain what she meant more eloquently. Where were the other plastics when she needed them?! âKindness can be in bothâŚâ She shrugged, a strand of her blonde hair falling over her face before she brushed it off casually. âDid you not see twilight? Those were cool vampires! WaitâŚdo you have a name?â She asked quickly.

â we both know it doesnât take an hour. â a laugh escaped KATâs lips as she allowed herself to be pulled closer. she figured a few minutes would suffice, but it was easy to get lost in the moment. after god knows how long past, they finally broke. â okay, okay, okay, â she pulled herself away. her eyes remained on the other, a soft smile on her lips. â enough distractions, â she said, offering one last peck on the lips, before rolling off the girl. she now sat on the edge of the bed, fixing her messy hair slightly.
she gave in, but now she had to maintain the willpower. she slowly inhaled, as if to catch her breath. she had to reset herself, forgetting it was just another workday for her. it couldnât be some lazy sunday, at least not for kat. â do you have plans for today? anywhere to be? â her question genuine. she wasnât trying to kick the girl out or anything ; not at all, but was just curious more than anything. she straightened her shirt as she stood up, turning back to face the blonde. â anything fun, at least? â
âBut it can if you go really slowlyâŚâ Karen whispered against Katâs lips as she carried on kissing her, pleased that sheâd managed to get her back into the bed even if it was only for a short while. Sheâd take it as a win. It was short lived though as she was once again left in the lurch by the other pulling back. Earning a pout from the blonde. âThat was no time! That wasnât even close to âŚ. I donât knowâŚâ She actually hadnât been timing it, sheâd been too swept up in the kiss to register how much time had passed. Kat seemed to have that effect on her.
The question regarding plans somehow managed to send her on a spiral internally, assuming she was asking because she needed or worse wanted to get rid of her. Had she overstayed her welcome? But Kat had wanted to spend time with herâŚright? âUm, I might go and see some friendsâŚI donât have work to go to today because we filmed todays things yesterdayâŚI might go to the dog park.â Did she have a dog to take there? No. Did she love going and pretending? Yes, she did.

âNot that I know of, but a lot of emotions can be hidden away from even the person experiencing them.â Delia smiled spouting something sheâd learned in one of her training books. âYou must miss her, I take it from the accents that sheâs back in the US?â
âHmmâŚmaybeâŚor maybe people feel them too much but they donât tell people because they might laugh. If you are jealous of someone I wonât laugh at you.â She promised. People being her, it was a common issue the blonde had, not that she was exactly tapped into the reasoning behind it. âI do! I miss her a lot. She is back in America with my daddy and everyone else but Iâm going to go and see her for thanksgiving!â

ă¡:â§:¡ MICHAEL COULDNâT HELP but laugh at the girlâs response. heâd definitely gotten lost before, but always somehow managed to find a road that could help him out. michael wasnât sure if she had found it yet or if she was amused by the idea of just walking around and exploring. shaking his head, he went to make a comment and found himself laughing along with her. her laugh was making him laugh. for a few minutes, he just laughed, his stomach starting to hurt as he did. finally, taking a breath, he looked back up at her. âwell, i know of a really good place to get chocolate buttons and theyâve also got some other really good candies and baked goods! should we go? i have some coupons too, so maybe weâll get some free things!â
It was like Karen had been faced with some kind of guardian angel, a kindred spirit as the two of them laughed together for a while, no need to explain why. For some reason this boy didnât seem to need an explanation just in the way he seamlessly joined in her fun. âWait, really? Okay have you ever had a brown chocolate button and a white chocolate button and then you squish them together so they are likeâŚone bit of each? Like a zebra chocolate button!â And she was off again, babbling about nothing in particular, just glad to have the company and eager to spend more time with him. âWait, do they have cupcakes too? I love cupcakes. Fairy cakes! Really that is one of the best reasons to be a fairy I think, so much cakeâŚlikeâŚall the time.â

â   karen, how exactly do you expect me to choose when youâre constantly moving these dresses in front of me ? slow down, show me one at a time,  â   regina complained, waiting for her friend to do as she said.   â  i mean, i know this isnât high school, but i wear pink almost everyday. wednesdays included. i guess it depends on which shade of blue youâre talking about and what piece of clothing you have in mind. show me the blue ones too. oh, and by the way, itâs friday. remind me again, what event are we picking you an outfit for ?  â  Â
âSlow down, got it.â But being Karen she took it to the extreme, showing her friend the dresses in almost slow motion as she moved one across, then the other, the whole action taking upwards of a minute to complete. Eager to comply with Reginaâs direction because after all things were easier when someone else told you how they wanted them done. âItâs FridayâŚitâs FridayâŚâ she repeated to herself over and over as she headed over to the wardrobe to pull out the two blue options she had in her head, turning back with a beam. âThese ones! OhâŚbecause I canât go out naked you have to wear clothes to a baby shower.â Karen explained seriously, no hint of a joke in her words whatsoever, that really was the reason she was giving.

reginaâs eyes never left karenâs face. she had to focus to maintain her composure and not go psycho and overprotective and that meant a lot of self-control. she was glad to hear her friend wasnât physically injured, but the matters of heart were also delicate. she wouldâve pressured her for more details, such as a name or maybe a better explanation, but the girl was crying and she didnât want to make it even worse.   â  iâm sorry to hear that, k. iâm here for you.  â  after hearing her drink suggestion, regina nodded.   â  vodka and tea, got it.  â  regina opened a drawer and took out a new bottle of vodka, placed it on the counter, then started searching for the tea. then, she brewed the tea and poured it in a cup, then added some vodka as her friend wished.   â  do you want it cold ? i can put some ice cubes. if not, then itâs ready.  â
As her friend sorted out the drink sheâd requested Karen sat on the floor, leaning her forehead onto the floor in front of her, sniffling as a couple of tears escaped. Still, at the question she sat up immediately, not wanting to keep the other waiting, nodding her head. âLike ice tea? Yeah I like ice teaâŚâ the blonde murmured, giving the other a watery smile. So many things had happened in such a short space of time she was still trying to get her head around them, maybe that was why it was hitting her so hard, if it had been just the one thing she could have processed easier. Kat, JD, Cady, the list went on and Karen didnât know where her place was in all of this confusion anymore. Something that scared her since she took direction from others in order to keep herself grounded. Which was the furthest thing from what she felt as she sat on Reginaâs apartment floor.

ă¡:â§:¡ SHE COULDNâT HELP laughing, always finding herself amused by karen. whatever the girl said, wednesday would laugh, highly entertained. ever since sheâd somehow managed to become friends with the blonde, she was constantly having good days. nothing was ever the same and perhaps that was why it was a good thing sheâd let the blonde into her life. shaking her head, she hummed softly. âno, no, not stupid, you just need to be careful sometimes. perhaps making sure you have someone with you when you party, so we donât run into this problem again,â she explained. chuckling softly, wednesday nodded, watching as the girl held the tea, waiting for it to cool. âiâll be here for your emergencies, donât worry.â tilting her head to the side, she shrugged her shoulders. âiâm alright, i guess. bit hungry, and havenât decided what i want to eat.â
âOh but there are always people all around me when I party! A party is when you are having fun with lots of other people, have you not been to one?â The question might have seemed bitchy out of context, but when it was coming from the (slightly) worse for wear blonde it was nothing but sincere. There was no judgment in the tone, just questioning. Blowing on the tea some more she stared down at it at the same time, watching the way her breath caused ripples in the surface, causing her a smile a little. âThanks, youâre a good friend, I like you.â She spoke, looking up again to give the brunette a winning smile, still clutching this magic tea she was hanging her hopes on. âTo eat? Food.â For once this was actually a joke from the girl, her serious face a tease before she cracked and spluttered into a peal of light giggles. âIâm kidding!â She laughed. âI know itâs food.âÂ

ă¡:â§:¡ CHUCKLING, WEDNESDAY WATCHED the girl as she burned her lips on the tea given to her. she was highly amused, as the idea of drinking hot tea when it was perfectly hot was something wednesday enjoyed. but she was a bit of a wildcard, that much both she and everyone else knew. âwell, tea usually is hot. when you got close to it, you shouldâve known,â she explained, her voice soft, and somewhat protective. grinning brightly, wednesday was glad that at least the tea tasted good. she spent much of her time trying to perfect this recipe, as it seemed to work for almost any odd ailment she had. âi consider that a success then. i always have some extra, in case of an emergency.â as the girl blew on the tea, wednesday tried her best not to laugh. âthatâs usually a good culprit of not feeling good. just too much to drink? no trouble or anything?â
That was going to blister, even if Karen hadnât worked that out yet, but she would find out later when she went home to look in the mirror. Or put her favourite sparkly pink lipgloss on, whichever came first. Probably the lipgloss knowing her. âI should have knownâŚah manâŚ.did I do a stupid again?â The girl asked as her face twisted into a look of distress, wrinkling her delicate nose. Of course Wednesday wasnât intending to be mean but now the blonde was nervous that she was being an idiot, it was only going to make her a little more skittish. âI am an emergency, I had too many drinks, I know that now.â Raising her eyebrows she pouted her lips for a bit as she paused to think, still cradling the cup of tea in her hands that were home to some slightly chipped sliver nail polish.  âNo, just too much I think. I donât really rememberâŚâ widening her eyebrows with a small giggle. âOops! How are you Day?â

âEnvyâŚjealousyâŚare you jealous of someone?â Honestly when she was parroting things sheâd heard on YouTube videos the blonde had a much better vocabulary than when she was coming up with things all on her own. âItâs so nice to meet you too, you make me think of my mom, you smile like she doesâŚâ It was comforting to Karen, she hadnât even realised sheâd been missing her mother so much until sheâd met this woman.

âThanks, Karen.â Cady smiled, looking up at the other girl as Karen tucked some hair behind her ear. Karen might not have been very smart, but she had a heart of gold and thatâs what counted. Plus, she was a whole lot of fun. Karen had a tendency to make her laugh like no one else, fully belly laughs that made your stomach hurt. âIâm not mad, promise! Iâd just much rather have chicken nuggets than hard drugs. Pretty much any day of the week, just for future reference.â Cady explained, giving the girl a quick peck on the forehead. She was always genuinely so excited about life. Like when she jumped up at the mention of a boy in Cadyâs life. Cady tried to roll her eyes as if it were no big deal, but she ended up laughing with Karen. Like she always did. âHis name is JD. He works at a mechanic shop where I took my car after it diedâŚagainâŚand oh my god, Karen.â Cady rolled on her back, clutching her hands to her heart as she groaned. âHeâs so hot. Like, stupid hot. Hang onâŚâ Cady grabbed her phone from out of her pocket, scrolling through her photos until she found a picture of him sheâd taken for her contact infoâŚ.him laying on her bed with his tousled hair and blue eyes. MmmmâŚCady giddily showed her the picture, squealing in delight. âIsnât he hot? I mean, I know Aaron was hot, but heâs hot. Right?â
âSure!â Karen grinned, nodding as her expression became serious again, not wanting to take drugs either sheâd just passed on what sheâd managed to hear on tv. âYou can have chicken nuggets everyday if you want, I can bring you them!â Confusion over the phrase âpretty much any day of the weekâ like the champ she was. Sometimes the blonde would take things at face value when really they didnât need to be. The prospect of chatting about boys brought her endless joy however, still bouncing on the mattress so her blonde ponytail did the same thing, that was until his name came out. JD. That was more than a little familiar. âThat is so funny, I know a JD too! Him and I sleep together like, this one time, but I would totally do it again because heâs hot too. Imagine if we both married them, weâd both have husbands called JD.â Explosive giggles followed this statement as she covered her mouth with her hand, falling back onto the bed in the process. At this point it hadnât crossed her mind that they might be the same person, not even slightly, despite JD not being the most common name in the world. Sitting up she took the phone from the other girl, looking down on the face of the very same boy she herself had been involved in, feeling a wave of confusion wash over her. âWaitâŚnoâŚ.because thatâs the JD that I know.â She finally murmured, whole mood starting to shift as realisation started to dawn. She wasnât special, he didnât see her as special either, her role in JDs life was ⌠cosmetic? Was he dating Cady now? âAre youâŚ.you two are dating?â She could feel emotion welling up in her chest, not in a positive way.

chino was headed back to his apartment when the girl cam crashing into him. he gave their neighbor a wave as they headed into their apartment before he looked back down at the girl again.  âyeah, yeah, iâm fine. are you okay?â if anyone was going to get hurt between the two, it would be her. it was kind of humorous to him that she would assume someone so petite could hurt him just from running into him.  âi guess a dogâs as good a reason as any to get distracted.â there was no point in getting cranky about a cute girl bumping into him, he just offered her a smile, taking a step out of her way.Â
âMe?â Obviously Karen, no one else had bumped into him full force in the last three seconds. âIâm fine! I got to stroke a cute dog!â She beamed, blue eyes flicking up to the boyâs face, noticing he was attractive, and instantly becoming a giggly schoolgirl. âRight?! I love dogs, do you like dogs?â Yes heâd stepped out the way to let her pass but that isnât mean Karen planned on going anywhere. She now had a new aim from this surprise conversation, make friends with the nice boy who sheâd walked into. Quiet simple really. Much like her. âIâm Karen!â Introducing herself with an outstretched hand and big smile.

âYeah, know where my eyes are loveâ he replied, trying not to laugh or react badly. The whole thing was weird, there was no way around that, but then in this city he had learnt to accept that weird things would happen all of the time. âKind? Now there is one I havenât been calledâ he didnât really believe that he was. Nothing he could do about that now. âContact lenses to match clothing? Thought that they were just for sight issues. I donât know who that is, but sounds more like youâd look like a vampire which is coolâ not that he really believed it, but why stop doing something you liked because someone else had an opinion. âRightâ.
Karen wasnât perturbed by the manâs comment, instead just grinning at his mention of knowing where his eyes were. âGood, same!â The blonde squeaked, the furrow between her brow only visible when he mentioned not being called king. âReally? Well Iâm calling you kind, they look like theyâd be nice to me and I like that.â Clapping her hands the squeal was back. âLike something out of twilight?! That would be so cool! Maybe I should do red contact lenses, do you want some too? I can get us both some. Wait, do you have a name? I mean of course you do because everyone has a name. Do you think anyoneâs name is actually name?â Karen was off babbling now, to those that didnât know her this could be a lot, but it was something the girl couldnât even help. She didnât even consciously know she was doing it most of the time.Â
