It’s time to talk about Demeter and her kids!

no I’m not gonna sit here and talk about Persephone/Kore, I’ll eventually make a post analyzing the original Homeric Hymn and other versions of her abduction but this one isn’t it so just sit tight

today I’m talking about the fact that in some sources (mainly Orphic literature) Hecate is Demeter’s daughter!

which in either version of Hecates parentage the fact that she was the only deity that helped her search for Persephone is so powerful (though in the original hymn only she and Helios heard/observed Kore being abducted, though I’d like to imagine that Demeter asked for help. If not the other gods are at fault for not noticing and helping her or even asking her what’s wrong). In one version it’s the goddess of witchcraft and crossroads, the daughter of Asteria (Hesiod’s Theogony, The titan goddess of falling stars and dream divination) or even Nyx (5th BC writing by Scholiast Bacchylides) in some cases, who was one of the gods of the Oikos (household) and assisted the gods in the war against the Gigantes (Hesiod’s Theogony). I cannot imagine the hatred and annoyance that Demeter felt that not even Artemis (cited in some sources to be the protector of women) would help her, yet this child of Nyx/Asteria steps away from her divine duties to help her search for her child.

In the other scenario of Hecate being Demeter’s child it’s a mother-daughter reunion previewing the most well known mother-daughter reunion in all of greek mythology and perhaps literature itself. Though its much more solemn and sullen, if we remember and have in our minds the picture of Hecate being able to traverse through all the domains (Sky, Sea, and the Underworld) in full power being a deity of the crossroads, and almost never seeing or interacting with Demeter until this point we begin to wonder why. Is it the case of an angry, depressed, and lost mother reluctantly and finally receiving help and company of her estranged daughter or perhaps the case of a bittersweet reunion of a child seldom not seen comforting her mother and finding solace in each others company as they search for persephone? We may never know, though both scenarios and speculation of each one truly does paint a beautifully melancholy perspective of Demeter’s side of the story that is sadly often not talked about as much as it should be.

Personally I love the dynamic of Hecate being the daughter of Demeter, no matter how you look at their relationship as mother and daughter it is still a beautifully tragic moment of them coming together to help search for Persephone. So from now on when I refer to Demeter’s kids that also includes Hecate!

Gonna use some obvious tags to denote whether i’m talking about the Pantheon (and even further use tags to seperate the Olympians and the Chthonic gods, which is kinda useless because they will all be about the chthonic gods because i’m obsessed with them) or Heroes and other stuff. Then I will also (if possible) tag who I’m talking about

IMPORTANT WARNING: as of now I am OBSESSED with Persephone and Hades, as well as Demeter and her kids, and Hecate and Artemis. SO THAT IS MOST LIKELY WHAT ALL OF THESE HEADCANONS WILL BE ABOUT, I WILL TRY TO ADD VARIETY AS TO WHO THESE HEADCANONS ARE ABOUT BUT NO PROMISES

SOMETHING SOMETHING MURDER DRONES FINALE REVIEW, IT WAS AMAZING

So now that my little tdp headcanon thing has to be thrown out the window (Don’t get me wrong I LOVE that I was wrong, I love the concept of Aaravos’ vengeance and wrath being all for her)

I’d thought I’d write some of my Natsolith (Tav) x Astarion hc’s down and what I’m planning for an epilogue story

-My Tav is a tiefling warlock who’s patron is basically her wingfaerie and just exists to push Nat and Astarion together

-Nat and Astarion treat the owlbear cub like their child, they name it Bubbo

-Nat cannot stand Gale because just the sight of him reminds her of her dad’s favorite human form (her dad is awful guys. He’s a literal demon)

-because of her archfey patron Nat canonically has the ability to go back in time, only she can feel these time blips…until the night at the party then Astarion also knows it’s happening

-Nat doesn’t bat an eye at him being a vampire spawn because her mother turned herself into one to avoid her having another child of her fathers

Epilogue story

-Astarion will reunite with his parents and finds he has a sister

-basically it’s this disaster chaos couple being married and trying to deal with in laws

-idk that’s all I have planned for now but it’s gonna be great. Just trust me

that’s all I have for now, I’m also working on their fic together so I’ll give updates on that as well

Me but with my own stuff that’s not even written yet 😔

But at the same time it’s the best ever, have a headcanon about something? Yeah it’s canon. Who says? you because you’re the creator, you get to make it canon >:)

other than that yeh it does kinda suck especially when you have writers block, art block, or just little to no motivation to actually write and publish it :/

Chapter 3 is being worked on!

And surprise Loki will be introduced in chapter 3, which means the full team has been formed and in the end of ch3/beginning of ch4 the action will finally start!

The version of Loki I am using for this fic will be the 2019 version. I know at some point in the fic it will definitely become clear what has diverged from canon in all of the sources I used for these characters. I am also really excited to show off the setting for my friends story and the worldbuilding he created!
