finally did some refs for these dudes

yep! these are my versions of the BTD/TPOF protags!!

basically, they come from different timelines; one where Kasper is the one Strade kidnapped, and another where it was Mickey instead.

these are, as y'all can Probably guess, their designs pre-games (aka Pre-Strade), so have some design details!

Kasper:

dog beastkin

21 (beginning of BTD 1)

dyed their hair (and tail) in "cotton candy colors"

general body shape, hairstyle, and body hair is actually inspired by me irl!

the outfit is the one he was wearing pre-kidnapping.

excitable puppy <3

jean shorts (Jorts, if you will)

5'6", but can and Will kick your ass. beastkin strength is A Thing in my opinion

exact dog breed is unknown; gladly calls herself a "mutt."

no shoes; claws are too long for a lot of shoes. usually only trims them around winter.

Mickey:

trans man

19 (beginning of BTD 1)

also 5'6". canNOT kick your ass unless he catches you off guard

the third, non-pride flag pin on his jacket is actually of his fursona; a bright orange and teal rabbit.

take a wild guess which fictional character this guy was technically based off of.

carries a messenger bag that contains several personal belongings, such as a sketchbook, art supplies, his wallet, a journal, and sometimes his phone if he doesn't have any good pockets.

hasn't started hrt yet, but does have a binder at this point.

leg hair = gender euphoria for this guy.

y'know. thought about some unintentional symbolism(?) with my two ocs and the animals they're associated with (and how that applies to their relationships with Ren).

AKA don't mind me, just. rambling about my ocs and whatnot because it's stuck in my head and i need to get it out. this'll only make sense to me, most likely.

Kasper - dogs. xe's a dog beastkin; it's literally part dog. sure, dogs as a symbol are usually used to represent undying loyalty and perhaps submission...but what about feral dogs? dogs with no master, no one they're loyal to? dogs who have been mistreated, who have only known violence? a dog that, when backed into a corner, doesn't back down, tail tucked between it's legs, but instead snarls and bites?

another thing worth noting: dogs and foxes are technically part of the same "family": Canidae. they might not be the same species, but they're pretty close in a sense.

Kas is taller than Ren; they're 5'6", he's 5'1". these two have practically known each other since the beginning; ever since Kas was the unlucky motherfucker that ended up in Strade's basement. in a sense, they know each other better than anyone.

Ren witnessed Kasper rip Strade's fucking throat out with her teeth after stabbing him. he knows Damn Well what she's capable of doing if she's pissed off enough.

Kasper has no interest in submitting to anyone. much less someone who's trying to force that submission. Strade being six feet under (or, well, in a freezer) is proof enough of that.

Kas' only interest is trying to put them and Ren on a similar playing field. a sort of way of saying "You're not any fucking better than me, and it's time you fucking realized that. It didn't work when Strade did it, it sure as hell won't work with you."

so long story short...maybe it's because they've known each other for so long. maybe it's because they know what they've both been through. maybe it's just because they both know (especially Ren) what they're both capable of. but either way...it's a weird sort of respect between the two of them.

now, on the other hand...

Mickey: rabbits. this one's quite a bit shorter. rabbits are timid animals, more likely to flee or freeze than fight a predator. rabbits are also prey to foxes.

Mickey has never been a talkative guy, more fine with staying off by himself or with those he considers close and trusted friends, within his "warren," you could even say. within his safe place. of course...sometimes he wishes to try his luck. sometimes he sticks his head out, just for some fresh air.

and sometimes, wolves come along.

Mickey isn't a fighter. he'll do whatever it takes to make sure he lives, but violence is a last resort for him. he'll run away, he'll stay still, he'll please whoever threatening him. so long as he doesn't fucking die.

in his eyes, death was the worst possible thing. at least if he's alive, he could pick the pieces back together somehow. so long as he's alive, no matter how broken he is, he'll be able to put himself back together.

he was stuck in Strade's house for three torturous months after that fateful night. but he got to know Ren, his only ally in the wolf's den.

but, as docile as rabbits typically are, they still have claws.

and Strade didn't realize that Mickey got a knife until it was too late.

he got a few stabs in himself, and fucked Mickey up pretty bad. but Mickey stabbed him in the neck. and that had sealed Strade's fate.

even in his art, done as a way to work through his trauma, the symbolism breaks through; an injured rabbit, curled up and fearful. it's not in many pieces, but...it's enough to raise some eyebrows.

when he and Ren, years later, meet up again in TPOF, and Mickey's put in the shows, it's almost...unnerving how quickly he fell back into old habits; just do what you can to live. no matter how humiliating, no matter how painful, just endure it. live. no matter what.

maybe it's the fact that they both knew each other so long ago, that they had genuinely been friends long ago (even if BTD2 was still a thing. but we'll ignore that for now), that makes Ren decide to spare him. maybe it's just from where Mickey tried to remind him that...he's in charge now; if he doesn't want to do what the chat wants, then...he doesn't have to. he's not with Strade anymore; no is an option.

but Mickey finds himself being given medical attention, with Ren shutting the cameras off. he....hasn't seen Ren that worried, no, scared in years. not since Mickey had killed Strade.

Mickey, surprisingly enough, doesn't mind staying with Ren. maybe, again, it's because he still views him as an old friend of sorts, even after...all of that. maybe it's some weird form of acceptance he isn't leaving. he doesn't seem to mind much; as long as he can continue his art like normal, he doesn't seem to care. maybe he's genuinely missed Ren over the years.

only Mickey knows...or maybe not. maybe he doesn't understand it either. but either way, the answer is probably somewhere in his mind, whether he knows what it is or not.

they're some interesting lil guys. both of em are self-inserts of sorts, but they're more or less basically ocs; they're just the characters i play as while playing BTD 1 & 2.

i guess have some character summaries if that'll give y'all some ideas of what to ask about:

Kasper Spectre: A dog beastkin and a bundle of energy. A literal party animal (yet somehow still kinda introverted), quick to flirt, and a good friend to have. Just don't piss them off; those teeth are sharp, and she does bite.

Unfortunately, a certain motherfucker didn't heed that warning, and it cost him his life.

Michael "Mickey" Warrins: A young man who had a rough start to life. Trust issues, paranoia, and a dark past he'd rather not disclose have caused him to retreat into the world of art as a form of escapism and working through trauma. His circle of friends is small and close, although he tries his best to not be too much of a recluse or closed off. He's also a therian and a furry, but that latter point isn't too much of an important detail......yet.

And I'm sure that this visit to the local bar- just to get out of the house for a while -will only end well for him; hell, he might even find a new friend there!

y'know. my thoughts on Ren and Strade are surprisingly similar. but Very different at the same time:

Ren: I Just Think He's Neat 😊(love this lil guy. yes he would torture me on a livestream. i'm sure i could convince him to go to therapy (< lying to xemself). listen i'm a furry AND a monsterfucker what did y'all expect. i can fix him (< lying to itself Again).)

Strade: I Just Think He's Neat 🙂(this man fucking terrifies me, but he's terrifying in an Interesting way. if i saw this man in a bar i would pretty much throw my social anxiety to the wind and try to actively find someone else to talk to and pray to God this man doesn't follow me. I Don't Care How Hot He Looks Or How Friendly He Acts, I'm Not Getting Alone Anywhere With Him, Let Alone Into His Car. but like. I Also Get It, Y'know? Strade Enjoyers, I Get Y'all. i guess i'm also an "enjoyer" in the sense that i find him intriguing to think about because What The Fuck. but he's still Fucking Terrifying.)

so to summarize:

with Ren, it's like 65% horny* and 35% scared

with Strade, it's 95% scared and 5% horny.

well, i'm kinda new to the fandom i guess, but uh. i've got two! they're self-inserts Kinda. more like ocs but i play as them in the first two games so. uh have some rambles i need to talk about these dudes!! i'm just gonna talk about Kas here, but if you want, i can talk about the other guy, too! (in another reblog maybe)

(warnings for talks of sexual stuff (not in TOO much detail, but y'know), and basically just about anything you can imagine that applies to Strade and Ren's routes. aka It's Probably Gonna Be A Lot)

Kasper Spectre:

dog beastkin (listen. i heard about beastkin being a thing in BTD. I Had To)

5'6" (aka My Height)

gender is. Interesting. (aka like mine; genderqueer and Kinda bigender?? look idk how to explain it but it's Like That. combine genderqueer and bigender and you've got it)

pronouns are the same as mine.

ace-spec, but sex favorable (like. REALLY favorable); basically doesn't feel attraction to anyone, but certainly doesn't mind Literally fucking around. also queer in general; doesn't have a specific label for romantic attraction.

also got a Mild(?) hypersexuality problem. but that's surely not important to the lore at all (it very much is).

21 in BTD 1, around 23 in BTD 2, and around 48-49 in TPOF.

introverted but pretty chatty; has been confused for an extrovert before. Very extraverted introvert, if you will.

like if you wanna know what their personality is like pre-games, then i'd say "If You Seek Amy" by Britney Spears and "Bubblegum Bitch" by Marina and the Diamonds (although that one could also partially fit Kas in the games as well) would fit his personality pretty well. (aka Flirty and Dirty-Minded Motherfucker)

however, while Kas is pretty bubbly and cheerful, she's also got a bite to her (metaphorical AND literal). like, piss her off and you've basically got a feral rabid dog on your hands.

You'll Never Guess How Strade Figured That One Out! I Bet You'll Never Guess!

speaking of which. BTD 1 Plot Time!

so Kasper's going around and trying to get some free drinks and generally being his cheerful self. he's specifically asking people if they wanna see some "dog tricks" (Kas literally doing things like Sit, Bark, and Roll Over. he's a silly guy) and then seeing if that impresses anyone enough to get himself a free drink.

it moves over to a quieter corner to take a break for a while, when it's suddenly approached by an older looking man (take a wild guess) who gives it a free beer. it laughs a little bit at the pleasant surprise, and makes a little half-joke half flirt ("Haha! A free drink and I didn't even have to do a trick for it. You sure you don't wanna see me sit? Roll over, maybe?").

the two of them chat a bit, things are are going great...until Kas basically asks Strade "Hey, ya wanna go 'do it' in the alley for the low, low price of $20?" which...Strade seemed a little too fine with, but hey. in Kas' mind, $20 is $20. and xe IS a college student mind you. some money would be nice, in xeir humble opinion.

they both go out there, and Kas lays some ground rules for what's gonna happen. when they get to the final rule, "pay me the 20 bucks up front or we ain't doing it," they find themself shoved up against the wall. they get understandably pissed about this, and start barking and growling at Strade (for understandable reasons) before he knocks them out. welp. fuck.

when she wakes up, tied to the pole in Strade's basement, she's the Very dangerous mix of Pissed Off and Scared. the second Strade walks down there and asks how she's doing, Kas, very unimpressed, says two things: "....You still owe me twenty fucking dollars. Actually, fuck it, you now owe me Forty Bucks for doing this utter bullshit." and then, immediately following that, "Y'know, if you wanted to do the kinky shit here, you could've at least fucking asked me first, asshole."

so Kasper's clearly unimpressed with everything happening here.

things go bad for just about everyone involved for the next two days. Strade discovers that he's basically One Major Security Fuck-Up away from getting mauled to death, and Kas is obviously getting tortured (among...other things happening). Kas is hiding how utterly terrified he is at what's happening by backtalking the guy who is, need i remind you, Actively Torturing Him.

after Strade gets done on the second day, Kasper Decides It's Time To Use That Knife He Stole The Previous Night :)

Ren hears the commotion and comes down into the basement, where he finds Strade with SEVERAL stab wounds, as well as Kas effectively trying to rip his throat out (with their teeth). the second Kas realizes that Ren is there, she pretty much makes a run for it while Strade demands Ren's help (which, to quote Kas, "Help him or don't, but if you do, tell him to give me a five minute head start."). Kas makes it pretty far down the road before a passerby notices her (and how injured she is) before taking her to the hospital.

the authorities couldn't really do anything, considering Kasper only knew his name was Strade (not his real name unfortunately) and couldn't remember where the guy's house was. thankfully, although unbeknownst to Kas, the guy was dead (but i Do have an alternate timeline where Ren does help Strade and so he survives, but that's for another post).

Kasper "If I Ignore The Trauma Hard Enough Then It's Not There, Right?" Spectre for the next two years between BTD 1 and 2; casually telling its therapist "yeah so what if the guy drilled into my foot a little? 🙄 it's no big deal it's fiiiine"

speaking of which; Kas has a little bit of a limp in his step because of the whole literal hole in his foot thing.

BTD 2:

recognized Ren in the bar (scent was familiar), but couldn't tell How he was familiar.

took Lawrence's drink because he felt that something was...off with it, and didn't want Lawrence to potentially get poisoned or anything.

basically, Kas' entire experience at Ren's house was just them discovering that they accidentally killed someone (Strade) and them looking at Ren and going "Therapy would do you so much good man how badly did that motherfucker fuck you up"

Kas eventually left after calming Ren down a little and "convincing" him (because it didn't really work) to get some help and therapy, as well as giving him her number. they talked for a few months before Ren seemed to just...vanish. one final vague goodbye over text and that was it. Kas just hoped that he finally got help and started improving his life.

TPOF let's go!!

so, Kas eventually opened up a queer cafe/bakery, and things were going well. xe mellowed out a little bit (not much, but a bit). things looked like they were going well.

Fucker Gets Kidnapped And Almost Sold. He Still Has No Idea How This Happened.

again, vaguely recognized Fox, but couldn't tell if it was his senses playing tricks on him. but he would rather take his chances with the potentially familiar guy who is currently trying to sell him than a stranger.

upon realizing that it's Ren, they were Very confused ("Wh- Ren? W- Holy shit you're hot. Wait why am I half naked-") but uh. after everything finally hit them...i want you to imagine how Kas was towards Strade, but like. with 20% less actual vitriol.

her exact thoughts during this whole ordeal were "Oh, these fuckers want a show? I'll give them a fucking show."

post-everything, Kas does live with Ren, but it makes sure that they're both actual equals and that Kas can go back to running its business. something that Ren's not fucking around with; he saw this guy fucking murder Strade and also just knows how it is in general. it's one of those "You two should stay together. Not because you're healthy for each other, but because no one else should be exposed to either of y'all's bullshit" type situations.

don't get me wrong, these two are basically in love. they could just both kill each other very easily, and they're both aware of that fact. besides, they're both attracted to each other, they probably know each other better than anyone else, so why not? (< they both have So Many things wrong with them). like it's a weird form of respect, kinda? that's the best way i can put it.

also, one final funny thing with Kas:

a customer at the bakery/cafe: Jesus Christ, what happened to your eye??

Kasper, deadpan: My husband.

dunno how to really introduce myself here, but uh, here goes nothing!

so yeah, made a sideblog for Boyfriend To Death (1 & 2) and The Price Of Flesh. for some pretty obvious reasons (no way in hell i can post this stuff on main. not at all).
