Headcanon that Kiyi and Aang are best buddies. whenever Aang is in the fire nation he plays with her constantly (like in smoke and Shadow when they went riding on dolphin fish together)

“Remember, bedtime in ten minutes.” This was probably the third time Zuko had reminded them. It seemed to be the longest ten minutes Aang had ever known for that reason. Not that he was complaining; he was quite enjoying the time. 

“And my mommy made this one too,” Kiyi told Aang, enthusiastically shoving another doll into hands. He had three already in his lap. They were all made by Ursa. “She has a pony tail, see?”

Aang did see.

“You know,” he said, grinning and casting a glance at Zuko, “this one sort of looks like how Zuko used to look.”

The siblings reacted exactly as Aang expected them to, with a sour glare tossed from Zuko and a dramatic fit of giggles from Kiyi. 

“No she doesn’t!” she shouted at Aang. 

“She does!” Aang persisted. “When I first met Zuko, he had a pony tail just like this!”

“Really?” she practically shrieked, falling at Zuko’s feet. 

Zuko, who seemed in the middle of glaring at Aang, melted at his sister, as he always did. He shrugged and knelt down between them and winked at her. 

“I was going through a weird time,” he answered her with a shrug. Aang snorted at the understatement of a lifetime. 

“He looked good,” Aang gave, to which Zuko replied, “No I didn’t,” and Aang had to laugh. 

“He looks better now,” Aang admitted to Kiyi with a wink. Zuko’s grin felt warm on Aang’s side. 

“I wish I could have gone on all your adventures,” she said with a sigh. “They sound like so much fun.”

“They were,” Aang told her. 

“Some were,” Zuko put in. 

Kiyi only sighed again from the unyielding suffering of memories she wished to be part of. 

“We can play some of our adventures, if you want,” Aang offered. “That way, it’ll be like you were there.”

That perked her up. “Okay!”

“Who do you want to be?”

“The Avatar!”

“Okay!” Aang had expected her desire for her brother, but alright. He handed her one of her rag dolls (which just happened to have had it’s string wig fall off, she had explained) and he picked up the ponytail one. “I’ll be Zuko. Who do you want to be, Zuko?”

Zuko gave a long, low, suffering sigh. He huffed and put out his hand for a doll. 

“I guess I’ll be Uncle Iroh.”

“Oh, good choice,” Aang said. 

“I love Uncle!” Kiyi shouted. 

“Okay, so here’s how we play,” Aang said. He leaned over and held the doll up by it’s shoulders, lowered his voice in a crude mimic of Zuko’s and said, “I am Prince Zuko and I must capture the Avatar and regain my honor or I’ll be grumpy for the rest of my life!”

Kiyi practically howled with laughter. Aang, smiling, turned to gage Zuko’s reaction. He stared at Aang with a less amused expression. 

“What do you think, Uncle?” Aang put it, waving his doll at Zuko. He tried not to laugh, but failed. “Don’t just sit there! Help me–” he laughed”–help me get the avatar!”

“This is worse than the Ember Island players,” Zuko hissed at him. 

“Play, Zuzu!” Kiyi begged. Aang winked at him. Between the two, Zuko relented. 

“That’s, uh, a bad idea, Prince Zuko,” Zuko said, bouncing his doll. His impression of Iroh was even worse than Aang’s of Zuko’s. “You don’t want to capture the Avatar. You just want to drink tea instead!”

Kiyi was giggling. 

“I don’t want tea!”  Aang waved the Zuko doll. “That’s what you want! I want the Avatar!”

Kiyi was loving the show and the room was filled with laughter. Under it, though, Aang felt a nervous turn in his stomach and found it’s source being Zuko’s gaze. He turned to Zuko and found him grinning coyly at him, his eyes pressed in a way that suddenly made Aang feel a little hot all over. The weight of Aang’s words pressed on Aang then, and Zuko’s reaction made him need to clear his throat. 

I want the Avatar. 

“Maybe,” Zuko said, his doll giving a half hearted wave, “someday, you can have tea and the Avatar.”

Aang coughed, his cheeks burning. 

“AVATAR!” Kiyi shouted and smashed her doll down on Aang’s and Zuko’s, waving and thrusting until the dolls broke from their hands. She was shrieking with laughter. Aang and Zuko joined her. 

“I think,” Zuko said when they were finally done with their laughter, “it’s time for bed.”

His hand found Aang’s back. For the first time that night, Aang took Zuko’s side of the bedtime argument.

My, how the time flies. It seems as if it was only yesterday that I was supposed to be crowned Fire Lord, and here we are, celebrating the first full year of your doomed reign. I salute you.

Know this: you won't know peace for long. I have entered into an alliance with Admiral Noboru. He is a true patriot and has kindly offered me three ships and 2000 men to retake the throne. He has also generously offered to serve as my consort, "despite my mental deficiency."

Today, the war in Gaza has stopped after a year and a half, thank God.

We cannot return to Gaza now because we do not have a house or even the travel expenses. Please help me, even a little, so that we can return and I can rebuild my house.

What is Kataang Week?

Kataang Week is when we, as a corner of the fandom, celebrate the ship Kataang on Tumblr! The prompts for Kataang Week 2025 were selected through voting this past weekend and all prompts were submitted by Kataangers.

Cool, when is it?

Summer Kataang Week 2025 starts on Monday, July 28th - six weeks from today - and ends on Monday, August 4th.  

Who is the founder of Tumblr’s Kataang Week?

@secretsecrettunnel revived Kataang Week in the summer of 2013 a few years after Avatar: The Last Airbender ended and when the fandom was itching for more Kataang during The Legend of Korra’s run.

Who are the mods?

I would like to take this time to extend a huge thanks to Mods Atarah, Belle, and Celes (@penguinsledder , @itsmoonpeaches , @chocomd ) for all their years of work. They were great mods and are still amazing people and wonderful friends. For several years, Kataang Week wouldn't have happened without them. They are always welcome back if they have the time or desire to be Mods again. Love you guys!

@airbender-dacyon AKA Mod Dan: A Kataang fanfic writer who prefers fluff, but also loves some drama and angst. Mod Dan started writing Kataang stories in 2013 and has helped organize Kataang Week since 2016.

We have at least one new mod joining the Tumblr team this year. This post will be updated along with a separate announcement post when they officially join.

Kataang Week is also being hosted by @dailykataang on Twitter again this year!

How do I participate?

The most common ways to participate are by creating art or writing a fic and posting it online. Some people try and create something for every day while others only fill one or two prompts.  

As always, we want to reassure you that it’s perfectly okay not to do every prompt! We just hope to have lovely pieces to share on each day.

But I can’t draw or write!

That’s totally fine - there are more ways to participate! You can sing a song, create a graphic, write a poem - just about anything really. You can also show your support by reblogging and liking other people’s contributions.

What are the prompts?

The following will be the running order for Kataang Week 2025:

Date Night* - Monday, July 28th

Tui & La/Oma & Shu - Tuesday, July 29th

Bridgerton AU - Wednesday, July 30th

Aging/Growing Old* - Thursday, July 31st

Forbidden/Scandal* - Friday, August 1st

Dancing - Saturday, August 2nd

Roaring Twenties/1920s AU - Sunday, August 3rd

Free Day** - Monday, August 4th

* These prompts have been shortened in name but were originally First Date/Republic City Date Night, Adult Kataang & Old Kataang/Growing Old Together, and "We shouldn't be doing this" (Forbidden Kiss/Love) & Scandal, respectively during voting. You can interpret them as singular or separate prompts and incorporate one or both for each day.

** And as always, there is a Free Day at the end of the week. You can use this day to post anything you’d like! It can be a prompt that didn’t receive enough votes or something you’ve been wanting to work on, anything goes!

How should I tag my work?

The easiest way for us to find your work so we can reblog it to this blog is by using the tag “kataang week���. Using “kataang” and “kataangtag” also help. You must tag one of the three in your first five tags otherwise it doesn’t appear in the search. It is also helpful to tag us directly with @kataang-week.

Sometimes even properly tagged posts may not appear when we search the tags, so if you do not see your content reblogged, please let us know.

Once we’ve reblogged it to this blog we add our own tags (a prompt tag and a user tag) for easy organization. This means we can find all the work for one prompt or all the work from one user in one easy click (this also means that if you have changed your username since participating last year you need to let us know so we can update your tag!).

Can I post my stuff other places online too?

Of course you can!

For those of you who will be posting your works on AO3, feel free to add your fic to our AO3 collection.

Why six weeks? Is that enough time?

Traditionally, we like to provide our content creators seven to eight weeks to create quality content. Kataang Week is also traditionally held in the last week of July. There were delays this year, apologies again. We intend to be on track next year to give everyone ample time to create content.

If you are unable to complete a prompt in time, please do not fret. You can alert this blog by mentioning it in your post (ex. @kataang-week​) or messaging one of the mods and your content will still be shared even if it is a week (or a month - or sometimes more!) late.

We also like to post WIP for Kataang Week and encourage everyone else to do so as well - we reblog it here for motivation!
