You know what I kinda don’t like?

That trope in Breath of the Wild Zelink fanfics where it’s like “Link and Zelda are in love but Rhoam finds out and so Link is in trouble” or whatever. 

Link is the Hylian champion.

It’s not completely unlikely that the court was already looking to him as a possible suitor to the princess.

I like the trope when it comes to other stories, but it just doesn’t really work for Zelda and Link. What works in other uses is that Person A is the royal and Person B is a servant. The servant is nothing in the eyes of the court, whereas Link is not only the Hylian champion, he’s implied to have come from a somewhat prestigious family of knights who’ve served Hyrule for generations.

And like, yeah, I get the whole “oh it’s scandalous to have a secret relationship” but like… Link wouldn’t be freaking beheaded for it. They’d probably get a slap on the wrist and then the court would announce the union at the opportune time.

Okay, just had to get that out. That’s been eating at me for a while.
