16th May
Intentions were to get into the studio today but was happy cruising at home!
Wanting to get a custom stamp with my initials for the base of all my works, here’s my top 3 so far. The first one is my favourite but I want to sit with it and not order right away…
My other thought was magazine cut out letters of my name so that I could stain it like BnW.
Heading in to studio tomorrow morning for a few hours, the agenda is:
- purchase a white & a grey speckle bag of clay
- make test trinket bowls for each (from the hump)
- a bowl with bite marks from it
If I get more spare time:
- small hand thrown tumblers
- slab work with grey speckle lines (like my perfume holder at home)
- perfumes bottles with applying stick-lids

little update
1 June
I have been away in Auckland and had a hike planned with no time to spare to get into the studio. I've done 1.15 community hours helping to clean the studio before I left!
I bought some clay also, Cream Stoneware with Speckles - $46.00. I have also sent my pottery tools down which I will clean and try pop into studio soon to throw some small trinket dishes to use as glaze testing!

Induction Day notes
11th May 2025
A few days late but was a gorgeous two hours intro to the studio / rules etc. It is very community driven, so I want to keep that in mind! They're non profit, gorgeous black clay cupboard, amaco glazes (may need to buy my own large glazes for specific colours). No terracota or black clays in the studio, however I would love to ask about bringing in already made vessels to fire.
They have an extruder there which I have never used, and a slab rolling machine too! I can't wait to start making. Clay & firing cost's are invoiced each month. The guy to took the intro was called Raul, and mentioned that he has a very mindful process with his greenware & only fires things he feels 100% about (as bisque clay doesn't break down). He also makes test tiles every bag he buys and has them ready to test glazes.
I want to volunteer my time to learn how to load kilns and the process involved with firings. They have a few raku firing's a year also which I have always wanted to do.
I have a small shelf space there for anything I want to leave there, I need to bring all my old tools down from AKL & an apron.
I cant wait to get to know all these new creatives, and begin making again. I had a rush of inspiration perhaps like I felt at art school, something I haven't felt in years!! Bless xx

Ceramic Diary Intro
9th May
Created this space to write / gather / plan freely regarding my ceramics. My first meeting with the local pottery group is tomorrow 10am, and I've new signed up to be a member in their studio until May 2026. I am excited to return to this medium, as its been years since I've worked with clay. Here I will add any ideas that could blossom, and techniques I wish to try! Love, kt
