Adam Scores

*Ok this post was originally posted on my facebook wall then I realized I have a blog, so yeah I hope you read on.*

I never really write long posts but today, I just discovered that Adam Young of Owl City @adamyoungofficial just started a project last February for which he will create film scores per month.

Film scores. per month. GUYS. GUUUYYYYS. AND He’s also collaborating with James R. Eads for the visuals to accompany the film scores!!

AND it’s free for download!!!

I can’t even start on how much I admire Adam’s work throughout the years. I could still remember my high school self just spending my summer days listening to the radio when suddenly “Fireflies” came on. I instantly fell in love with it. It was like listening to “your dreams becoming a reality”— that kind of feeling. Or like the first time you saw someone special and even though they’re gonna break your heart, you’ll fall for them anyway. Or like the time you finally felt that what you’re doing is something of importance and value.

So there, I googled who Owl City was and listened to his MySpace (or was it My Space Music?) for like the whole summer. And when I had the chance to save up for his album, I bugged my friend to accompany me to Alabang which wasn’t far from where we live but I was a clueless doe-eyed high school student back then who doesn’t understand directions and geography.

Anyway, I went in the store and bought the album “Ocean Eyes”. And when I got home, I felt torn because I want to listen to it but at the same time I’m scared because I want to preserve its quality. So I remember carefully putting it on my pastel blue portable cd/cassette/radio player. I locked myself up in my room and pressed play.

I never felt so happy. It was just pure bliss. It was like the feeling of weekend mornings, the smell of coffee, or seeing that smile to break into a laugh. Even to this day, whenever I feel super sad or lost I’ll just play any of his albums and I would instantly feel better. What I really love about his music is the feeling of being in a dream. My imagination became bigger and colourful just by listening to his songs—especially his lyrics. He combines words that paints a story in your mind as you fall deeper into the melodies he created in the four walls of his basement/bedroom.

And now that he is starting this project, I feel so inspired and I hope you do too. So here are the links so you can sign up and download his scores (or you can buy it on iTunes)! I also want to appreciate how the art of James R Eads Illustration for this project. The Van Gogh-ish style perfectly captures the dreamscapes of Adam’s music that I absolutely adore.

Relief PH (Game)

For AUTHOR2 Finals, we are tasked to create a story game that has a social relevance. I created a concept on disaster preparedness and created 4 levels for the game.

Opening page

Level 1: Gathering Donations (Falling object/Keyboard controls)

Level 2: Repacking goods (Drag and Drop)

Level 3: Delivering (Maze/Keyboard controls)

Level 4: Distributing the relief goods (Drag and Drop Database)

This game is such a huuuuge challenge because we need to apply every lesson that we have discussed. With only a weekend to do this, sleeping for me is forbidden. Now that I was able to test my knowledge in coding and skills in designing, I am overjoyed that I was able to finish this on time and I can finally have a decent sleep and real food. Thank God!
