“Crazy Patch Quilt” made in the mid 1960s by Gracie L. Morgan (1900-1996.) On the back is a hand-inscribed note on fabric describing the quilt and the person who made it. If only we had such detailed information for all of our artifacts!

64 days in heaven and hell (52) Barges In August, Van Gogh worked on a few motifs that may seem a bit uncharacteristic in his oeuvre. But he didn’t have to go far to find this scene: the quay on the left bank of the Rhône river was just a few steps away from his studio.
Two months later, he sent the painting to his friend Émile Bernard:
“…  I believe that that one will suit you once you’ve looked at it a little longer”. (Letter 698)
Bernard kept the painting an showed it in 1892 in an exhibition organized in memory of van Gogh who had died two years previously.
Vincent Van Gogh,  Les bateaux amarrés (Quay with Men unloading Sand Barges), August 1888. Oil on canvas, Folkwang Museum, Essen, Germany (F 449, JH 1558)
