Three games postponed as KBO rolls on

On day 5 of the KBO season, three matchups got postponed:

- NC Dinos vs LG Twins

- SK Wyverns vs Lotte Giants

- KT Wiz vs Doosan Bears

Only two games were played on Day 5. Let’s jump right in.

Samsung Lions 14 - KIA Tigers 2

- Samsung scored nine runs in the eighth to put this one out of reach. After being swept by NC to start the season, the Lions are feasting on KIA and have won two straight.

- Kim Dong-yeop and Lee Sung-Gyu drove in three runs apiece for Samsung, and starting pitcher Won Tae-in went five innings for the win.

Kiwoom Heroes 5 - Hanwha Eagles 3

- Kiwoom came from behind to move to 4-1 on the season, scoring three runs in the sixth inning.

- Hanwha had more hits in this one (10-4) but walks and wild pitches doomed the Eagles.

- The Kiwoom bullpen was strong in this one, as they allowed zero runs over the final three innings to hold down the lead.

Dinos, Giants stay hot; Samsung gets first win

KBO Day 4 Recaps and Scores

Kiwoom Heroes 5 - Hanwha Eagles 3

- In a back and forth contest, Kiwoom scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 5-3 win over Hanwha. Lee Jung-hoo and Park Byung-ho both had 3 hits, including one home run each, and accounted for all of the Kiwoom runs batted in. 

- Kiwoom starting pitcher Lee Seung-oh threw the ball very well as he went 6 2/3 innings and allowed only two earned runs. 

- Oh Sun-jin homered for the Eagles in the loss. 

Samsung Lions 5 - KIA Tigers 0

- Samsung finally won their first game of the season! Six Lions combined to throw a shutout, with starting pitcher Choi Chae-heung leading the way. Tyler Saladino went 2-for-4 with a home run to back the Lions pitching staff, and Koo Ja-wook drove in two runs as well. 

- Drew Gagnon took the loss for KIA.

KT Wiz 12 - Doosan Bears 3

- The KT Wiz thoroughly destroyed the Doosan Bears on Day 4, as they pounded out 22 hits and scored in six different innings. Eight different players had multi-hit games and seven different players produced RBI. Just an outstanding effort from the Wiz. 

- What a doozy for Doosan. They actually led this game 2-1 going into the fifth inning, but you would never know it based off of the score. 

NC Dinos 13 - LG Twins 5

- The Dinos continue to roll through their schedule, as they hammered the Twins on Day 4. Tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, NC exploded for six runs in the frame and never looked back. Lee Myung-gi and Kang Jin-sun hit home runs for the Dinos. 

- LG starting pitcher Tyler Wilson will probably want to forget this game happened. He allowed seven earned runs and did not make it out of the fifth. 

Lotte Giants 9 - SK Wyverns 8 (10 innings)

- Lotte continues to shock the league thus far, and won in wild fashion to move to 4-0. Trailing 6-1 at one point, they battled back to force extra innings and won on a walk-off wild pitch.

- Four different Giants homered in this one, as Jeon Jun-woo, Lee Dae-ho, An Chi-hong, and Dixon Machado all went deep. 

- The Wyverns bullpen allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Not their finest showing and certainly not a formula for winning games.

Dinos, Giants remain unbeaten in KBO

NC Dinos 8 - Samsung Lions 2 

- The Dinos stayed perfect on the season following six shutout innings from starting pitcher Koo Chang-moo, a 3-for-4 day from leadoff hitter Park Min-woo, and a home run from No Jin-hyuk. 

- Lions starter David Buchanan allowed five earned runs in six innings pitched for the loss. 

Lotte Giants 7 - KT Wiz 3

- The surprising Lotte Giants are the leagues other undefeated team, as they came from behind to defeat the KT Wiz. Trailing 3-1 heading into the seventh, the Giants offense scored three runs on a Son Ah-seop blast. They would tack on another run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to reach the final margin of 7-3. 

- The bullpen for KT wasted a strong start from Bae Je-seong, who allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. Every relief pitcher for the Wiz allowed at least one earned run.

Hanwha Eagles 8 - SK Wyverns 4

- Hanwha bounced back to defeat the Wyverns in game 3 of the KBO season and took the opening series. 

- The Eagles exploded for six runs in the sixth inning of this one, and turned a 2-2 game into a rout. Jared Hoying, Lee Sung-yeol, and Song Kwam-min accounted for five Eagles RBI. 

-Kim Joo-han allowed three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning for SK, and took the loss. 

Doosan Bears 9 - LG Twins 3

- Doosan scored four runs in the fifth inning to break open a 3-3 tie, and then held LG in check to take the series. 

- Jose Miguel Fernandez went 4-for-5, Park Kun-woo homered, and Kim Jae-hwan banged out three hits for the Bears. 

- Offensively, the Twins could not hang with Doosan. The Twins recorded seven hits while the Bears put up 14. 

KIA Tigers 8 - Kiwoom Heroes 5

- KIA salvaged a 1-2 start and avoided being swept with a come-from-behind win against Kiwoom. After a disastrous four-run first inning allowed and trailing 4-3 in the eighth, KIA hung five runs on Kiwoom and held on for their first win of the season. 

- Five members of the KIA starting lineup had multi-hit games, including standout performances from Kim Sun-bin, Preston Tucker, and Choi Hyung-woo. 

- The Heroes’ bullpen staggered to the finish line, as it took three pitchers to record the final six outs. 

Starting on Day 4, the KBO teams will play different opponents for the first time this season! The matchups for the weekend are as follows:

KBO Betting Blog

Day 2 of the KBO Season went a little bit more according to form, as Moneyline favorites went 4-1. While we need to be patient and wait for trends to emerge, it is worth noting that only 2 of the 4 winners covered their spreads. In a league that is known for its offensive prowess, it may be hard for teams to get lots of separation on the scoreboard and games can change in the blink of an eye.

Wyverns, Bears victorious on Day 2 of the KBO

KBO Day 2 Recaps and Scores

SK Wyverns 5 - Hanwha Eagles 2

Wyverns starting pitcher Ricardo Pinto was stellar, as he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He ended up going 6 ⅔ innings and allowing only one earned run. On offense, right fielder Han Dong-min launched two home runs, while first baseman Jamie Romak and left fielder Jeong Eui-yoon both had multi-hit games for SK. 

Song Kwang-min recorded two hits including a home run for Hanwha in the loss. 

NC Dinos 4 - Samsung Lions 3

The NC Dinos won their second straight game to start the season, after striking for four runs through three innings and holding off a Samsung comeback attempt. Aaron Altherr and No Jin-Hyuk hit home runs for the Dinos, and Park Suk-min drove in a run with an RBI double. 

Samsung trailed 4-0 (just like in the first game of the season) but this time they bounced back with three solo home runs. Unfortunately, they needed one more. Park Hae-min, Kim Dong-yeop,and Lee Sung-gyu hit the home runs for the Lions. 

Samsung struck out 11 times as a team in this game, and it is tough to score if you don’t put the ball in play. 

Kiwoom Heroes 3 - KIA Tigers 2

After blowing out KIA in the season opener, Kiwoom won a closely contested battle in the second game of the season. Tied at one heading into the eighth inning, the Heroes were able to score two runs and hold off the Tiger response. Lee Jung-hoo led the way for Kiwoom with two hits and one RBI. 

Both pitching staffs threw the ball well, but the Kiwoom bullpen was slightly better at limiting damage. They work around a Choi-Hyung woo home run in the eighth inning to nail down the victory.

Lotte Giants 9 - KT Wiz 4

The Lotte Giants used a five-run third inning to blow open game number two against the KT Wiz. Min Byung-hun went 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, Jeon Jun-woo had three hits, and Jung Hoon homered to lead the charge. 

Unfortunately, KT is 0-2 to start the season. They tried to comeback, as they cut the lead to 6-3 going into the eighth inning. However, Lotte scored three more runs for insurance. KT never got closer than three runs. 

William Cuevas was charged with six earned runs for KT. 

Seo Jun-won got the victory for Lotte. 

Doosan Bears 5 - LG Twins 2

Doosan bounced back from an opening day loss to defeat the LG Twins in their second game of the season. The Bears had a balanced offensive game, as seven players combined for 12 hits. Kim Jae-ho had three hits, as did Oh Jae-il. Choi Joo-hwan also homered for Doosan. 

For LG, starting pitcher Son Eun-beom lasted only 2 ⅓ innings. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits. Offensively, they scored two runs in the sixth inning and that was it.

NC Dinos 🦖 4 - Samsung Lions 🦁 0

- The Dinos got off to a strong start to the KBO season, as they defeated the Lions by a score of 4-0. Their offense was paced by their 3-4-5-6 hitters, who accounted for all seven of the teams hits. Three of those hits were home runs as Na Sung-bum, Park Suk-min, and Mo Chang-min each left the yard.

- The Lions offense mustered only three hits against the Dinos pitching staff, which was led by winning (and former MLB) pitcher Drew Rucinski. He threw six shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Hanwha Eagles 🦅 3 – SK Wyverns 🔱 0

- The story of this matchup was an Opening Day complete game shutout by the Eagles’ Warwick Saupold. “Aussie”, who previously pitched in the MLB with Detroit, allowed two hits, struck out two, and walked one.

It was a balanced effort at the plate and on the mound as seven different Heroes recorded runs batted in (RBI) and six different pitchers threw at least one inning.

- Tigers 3B Jang Yeong-seok reached base twice and scored one of the two KIA runs.

LG Twins 👬 8 – Doosan Bears 🐻 2

- LG broke open the game late with five runs in a massive bottom of the eighth inning. Left fielder Kim Hyun-su, who hit a double in the aforementioned eighth inning, had a huge game for the Twins, as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and three RBI. Kim proved very quickly why he was hitting third in the lineup. Starting pitcher Cha Woo-chan struck out six batters and allowed only one run in seven strong innings to take the win.

- For the defending champion Doosan Bears, it was a tough start. The game was close, but ultimately the pitching couldn’t keep the Twins down long enough for the Bears bats to get going.

Lotte Giants 🐣 7 – KT Wiz 📲 2

- The Lotte Giants came from behind to defeat the KT Wiz on Opening Day, as they scored three runs each in the seventh and eighth innings. For most of this game, it was a pitchers duel. Wiz starting pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne, who previously played for five different MLB teams, struck out eight in six innings while consistently running his fastball into the 90’s (miles per hour).

- Former MLB pitcher Dan Straily started for the Lotte Giants and allowed two earned runs in five and two-thirds innings.

- Giants third baseman and former Detroit Tiger Dixon Machado broke the game open after Despaigne departed, as he crushed a three-run home run in the seventh inning off of the Wiz’s Kim Jae-yoon. Machado finished 2-for-4 with four RBI.
