the electric hum of the hotel television and running of water through it’s old pipes isn’t making it easy for her to get comfortable, nor is the fact that she’s alone. every few minutes she’s glancing from the page of her book over her should towards the door, her teeth biting anxiously into her bottom lip. she hasn’t seen seth all day, part of her is worried about him, while the other part of her is cursing him for leaving without a note or breath of where he might be.

she's grave quiet,  the soft open and close of the door has her turning to look at him, his face awash with a luminescent glow from the moon. it’s a starry night in the desert, his voice takes her by surprise even though she’s been watching his face and saw his lips begin to part. the wind is a song in the distance, his words a crescendo.  ❛ m’not. but sometimes.. it makes a good diversion when i need time to think for myself.  ❜  

her little  sleight of hand  doesn’t go unnoticed,  &  it’s with perceptible resignation that he’s tailing her outside.  to keep tabs,  mainly.  not that she’s a  flight risk  at this stage in the game  —  if kate were planning to bail,  richie figures,  she would have done it already.  instead of outright taking the cigarette    (  he’s  tempted  ) ,    he pulls a zippo from his pocket to light it for her,  then one for himself,  almost expressionless.    ❛   thought you weren’t a smoker.   ❜

she’s stolen one of his cigarettes, straight out of the pocket of his suit jacket and fled the room into the cool night air with it, a pack of complimentary matches provided by some motel she’d crashed at in her other hand. she doesn’t really smoke but she wanted an excuse to leave the bar. the smell of sulfur makes her cringe as she lights match after match trying to get the cigarette lit. ❛   —  dammit come on.  ❜
