"#small edit: the moon is beautiful“ is more of a literary trope for ”i love you“ than a translation"
Well, no. I meant translation. The famous story goes that Natsume Soseki literally said that since "I love you" is not commonly directly said in Japanese, that if "I love you" were to be translated from English to Japanese, it should be something like “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it? / Tsuki ga kirei desu ne”.
I translated the Japanese video @eisa96 uploaded of the lake scene from ep 266.
“I love you” is famously translated from English into Japanese as “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it? / Tsuki ga kirei desu ne” because Japanese people are less likely to be direct when expressing their love. Shigeru’s not the type to use polite speech, bu he says “kirei na tsuki da na” which holds basically the same meaning, it’s just less formal.

Thank you so much for the source!
Here's my translation of that moment in the podcast...
"Interviewer: Is it correct if I call [Smith becoming Bravern] reincarnation? Is there a structure/mechanism to it? Obari: The mechanism is, well… Smith's feelings of both bravery and also friendship with Isami made this miracle happen. The construction of the Super Robot hero was part Rising Orthos and part Cunus' body getting taken over. It was a miracle brought about by Smith's determination."
I hope you don't mind me adding onto this, but I agree that when you put together all the information between eps 8&9, the Memories of Deathdrives ~Cunus~ video, the magazine interview, and the podcast episode, the explanation that makes the most sense is that Cunus is dead and the only soul in Bravern is Smith's, but Bravern the robot is made up of parts of her body and mind which probably results in Smith's (already present) lust for Isami being amplified.
I feel like it needs to be said for Bravern and people’s thoughts on Cunus’s relation to Bravern.
She has no part in Bravern’s personality or self. Obari has confirmed this twice now. Smith dominated her will, killed her, and used her corpse to construct Bravern’s body. She is dead and there isn’t left over lust in Bravern or her influence.
Also she has no influence on Smith’s feelings for Isami as was confirmed in the recent talk show. Smith’s hidden feelings were confirmed to be his various feelings for Isami and that’s why Cunus was attracted to Smith in the first place.
He already had those feelings for Isami in him, that’s why she wanted him. She didn’t give him anything he didn’t already have. Anything relating to her influencing him is headcanon at best at this point in time.

So... I keep seeing seeing people say this and I'd love for it to be true. But I have not at all seen a legitimate source on it. Rather the opposite. It's not a headcanon, it is something Obari said in a magazine interview that's actually sourced.
The radio show ep 9 keeps getting sourced for Obari saying Cunus had no influence/is dead, so I listened to that whole episode and.. 1) Obari's not in it. It's the seiyuu for Smith, Isami, Lulu, and Superbia. 2) The only time I really noticed Obari being referred to is when Sugita made a joke about something Obari's said about breasts before. Do you have a timecode?
On the other hand...
Obari says in Great Mechanics G Spring 2024 大張「ブレバンはいくつかの要素が合わさって出来た。クーヌスの意識が結構性格影響してる。クーヌス愛に生きるキャラで、それが合わさって」
"Bravern is several components added together. Cunus's conciousness impacts Bravern's personality quite a bit. Since Cunus is a character who lives for love, that's what's added to Bravern."
I don't really see in the canon how Cunus still having consciousness tracks, because it's kinda constantly shown to be just Smith in there, and Smith equaling Bravern. But I've seen it sourced several times that Obari did say this in this magazine, and it at least makes sense with Bravern's cringe monologues about Isami and pathos.
If anybody's got a more clear source on the Cunus doesn't impact Bravern's personality thing, please seriously give it because I want it to be true.

Ohh, thanks for the info, I was super curious!
Twin stars is a better name then wonder duo plus aizawa came up with it himself
Twin stars also comes from the fan translations. The official says a “certain pair”:

I’m not sure what is the Japanese original, and I know Caleb tends to use the less shippy interpretation - so just pointing it out.

Oh, I’ve actually never heard of that! Is it possible you’re thinking of 双子 futago (twin)?
二人 futari (pair) and 双子 futago (twin) sound similar, but their kanji are very different so it’s hard to mix them up when reading.

The raw Japanese says “連中は気付いてないが、A組はその実二人の存在が大きく作用してる”. I’d translate it super literally to “Class A hasn’t realized it, but in fact the presence of those two greatly affects the group.”
I haven’t seen the whole “twin stars” translation, only heard about it, but...
As far as translating the “certain pair” part, it’s literally just the word “futari” meaning two people / a pair. No idea how, but 二人の存在 (two people’s existence) got translated to twin stars I guess, I’d think maybe the original raw scans were blurry and the translator just kinda made something up cuz they couldn’t make out the kanji or they... didn’t know Japanese. I don’t know, I’m really curious.

That was probably a shishi odoshi sound effect. It’s heard a lot in both onsen scenes and comedic scenes in anime. Here’s the TV Tropes page for it: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheThingThatGoesDoink
Hi ^^ tysm for all your hard works for this fandom we really appreciate it.
I have a dumb question. In episode 6 when Cherry and Joe were in hot spring and Reki and Langa came to them all mudy and stuff i heard a "pop" sound after they screamed. Is it some of those stuff that is considered funny in Japan or it actually mean sth? Idk like what, but anything?
Using drum sounds like that is part of Japanese comedy. I assume it's supposed to be funny but I'm not sure honestly. I've never really looked into that sort of stuff so sorry I don't know more about it.

I came up w/ this whole thing at 2am when I couldn't sleep so naturally it goes absolutely nowhere, sorry about that. I hope you still liked it! I started drafting a follow up w/ actual romantic development, but it got WAY too long for me to finish a comic of lol. So there’s a chance I’ll do small excerpts from it but I’m not sure yet. If this is the end, thank you so much for reading! you have no idea how much I've appreciated all the likes and reblogs!❤️
