You can call me Meela and this blog is my life all jumbled up in one page. I'm a published author and an avid seeker of all kinds of knowledge and I am truly passionate about cats, snail mail (especially Postcrossing), vintage things, faith and spirituality, tattoos, books and literature, social justice and human rights but this blog primarily feeds my obsession with 20th century history. I'm a crazy history buff and love knowing about everything from the Titanic to the Third Reich and the Soviet Union. Nazi sympathizers and other nasty bigots like them are not welcomed here. Feel free to get in touch but be aware that spam and abusive content will be reported and blocked. Take a look at my website to learn more about me and my published books: www.jamilamikhail.com ♡

Heinz Siegfried Heydrich (29 September 1905 – 19 November 1944) was the son of Richard Bruno Heydrich and the younger brother of SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich. After the death of his brother, Heinz Heydrich helped Jews escape the Holocaust.
Heinz Heydrich was an Obersturmführer (lieutenant), journalist and publisher of the soldiers’ newspaper, Die Panzerfaust. He was at first a fervent admirer of Hitler. But before Reinhard Heydrich’s State funeral in Berlin in June 1942, Heinz Heydrich had been given a large packet containing his brother’s files, released from his strongbox at Gestapo Headquarters, 8 Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse, Berlin. Heinz had shut himself away in his room with the papers. Next morning his wife noticed that her husband had sat up all night burning the documents from the package. Heinz, on leave from the front, could not be engaged in conversation, his wife remembered; he seemed to be elsewhere mentally, and like stone. The files in the package were probably Reinhard Heydrich’s personal files, from which Heinz Heydrich understood for the first time in all its enormity the systematic extermination of the Jews, the so-called Final Solution. Thereafter, Heinz Heydrich helped many Jews escape by forging identity documents and printing them on Die Panzerfaust presses.
When in November 1944 an economic commission headed by a State Attorney investigated the editorial staff of Panzerfaust, Heinz Heydrich thought he had been discovered and shot himself in order to protect his family from the Gestapo. In reality, the attorney knew nothing about the forgeries, and was only trying to find out the reason for shortages in paper supplies. Heinz Heydrich is buried in the Soldatenfriedhof (soldiers cemetery) Riesenburg, according to the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt).
Heinz Heydrich had five children. His oldest, Peter Thomas Heydrich (1931–2000), was a well-known German cabaret singer, and wrote a book about his childhood, father, and uncle. In the book, Peter Heydrich describes how, as a youth, he enjoyed the fame of being a “crown prince,” the nephew of Reinhard Heydrich. During boyhood, he thought of his uncle as a successful sportsman and a sensitive musician. In Prague, Peter observed that his uncle had become a “high animal.” Peter derived many privileges from being Reinhard Heydrich’s nephew. Even after the war, Peter still felt some pride in the familial relationship, if not so openly. But finally, Peter Heydrich had to admit that Reinhard Heydrich was a protean schemer, who planned and executed the Holocaust and other crimes. Peter died on 22 November 2000, after a long illness.

Above are photos of Heinz at Reinhard’s funeral (including one where he’s being condoled by Hitler) and in the two photos below Heinz is standing next to Heinrich Himmler behind the children.

It’s unknown how many people Heinz actually saved, surprisingly not much has ever been written about him despite his famous family name. One can assume that he must’ve helped a significant amount of people because the shortage of paper was so big that it warranted an investigation. Unfortunately this little-known unlikely Holocaust hero never got much of the recognition he deserved in the face of the atrocities committed by his older brother.
Within the space of just over two years, both brothers met violent deaths in dramatic circumstances. Both are remembered for different reasons: Reinhard for his brutality as a key figure in the Nazi regime, and Heinz as a man with a heart of gold who took great risks to try to stop the Nazi’s ultimate aim, the complete destruction of the Jews.

⚠️ A message to my friends and followers! ⚠️ This page will be on hiatus indefinitely in part due to my chronic illness and being a student but also in large part due to privacy concerns. Being an author I have been the target of many scams (never got caught!) and I definitely do not trust Facebook — who owns Instagram — with my info either, and you probably shouldn’t trust them with yours. 🛑 Nobody flip out, this page is not actually going anywhere, I’m just not going to be updating it until further notice. I am still an author and still (albeit very slowly) working on my fourth book and the read and review program still works the same way it always has. You can learn all about that on my website www.jamilamikhail.com and contact me there as well. I paid to have a secure platform hosted so I’m going to keep things centred there. 💯 Until next time, I look forward to hearing from you! 😀 www.jamilamikhail.com 📚 https://ift.tt/2Mp23Mq https://ift.tt/31VodfE
