Listen as much as I’m a whore for wrightworth I need the fandom to stop pretending the only reason Miles is concerned when Maya is in jeopardy is because she’s important to Phoenix. He cares about her too. I get they don’t get as much canonical interaction (in the games, at least, I thrive off the manga) but in Turnabout Goodbyes Maya saves Miles’ life. And he credits her with this as well.

Hell, that’s just what he sees (her getting put in contempt of court). He doesn’t even know she took a stun gun to get evidence back from MVK. Maya was previously pretty hostile towards him, too (and not without reason). But she’s a good person and she knows he’s not guilty and she wants to help prove that.

They’re friends, ok. Maya isn’t just someone who is important to Phoenix, Miles cares about her in her own right—and he has good reason to

he canonically changed information about people and events

mary calling him james in that one story instead of john like we'd expect - he was writing really fast and didn't think about it + didn't see it when he checked his manuscript (typical writer mistake?)

writing about his and holmes's crimes and somehow not getting caught

that means he also changed the names of the officers of scotland yard, maybe even holmes's name too

he actually did retire with holmes, but his character wasn't written to have done it

so in their latter years there was a beekeeper and his friend (or whatever he was to him), probably named james something, living in the sussex downs together and no one suspected a thing
