Under the stars at Baldy Top near Quilpie in #outbackqueensland. We spent a whole week exploring this fascinating landscape last winter. This photo is a bit rough but it reminds me of some wonderful nights spent under the stars, sitting by the campfire or wandering about with my camera in the dark. The outback gave me an excellent opportunity to practice and experiment with my photography. I still have so many photos to share from our travels around @queensland in 2020. Whilst we prepare for the next leg of our adventure in Bronte the bus, I thought I'd share a few more memories from our 2020 travels. #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #outback #astrophotography #quilpie #adventure #stars #tree #exploreaustralia https://instagr.am/p/CKtLdPGB9lS/

'The Dreamtime Serpent' on Mithaka country near Betoota in Outback Queensland. To give you an idea of the size of this impressive sculpture, that's me lying in the dust nearby. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land. I love this country and am so very thankful to walk on this beautiful land. But I don't feel like celebrating much today. For Aboriginal people across the country, January 26 marks a day of mourning. It was on this date that Captain Arthur Phillip and his officers rowed ashore from the First Fleet in Sydney Cove, drank to the King's health and raised the British flag. It marks the beginning of an atrocious and prolonged period of genocide against First Nations people. It's not about wanting to make you feel guilty for past injustices, nor blaming you for what happened. And it's certainly not about wanting to create division (I strive for exactly the opposite in this country).  It's about education, understanding and empathy. It's about putting your feet in somebody else's shoes. It's about finding the heart to listen to First Nations people about how this date makes them feel.  It's time to abolish the date. To learn our truth. To change the nation.    #changethedate #australia #firstnations #outbackqueensland #abolishthedate #alwayswasalwayswillbe #aboriginal #abcmyphoto #mithaka *The Sculptures of Dreamtime ‘Sand, Dust and Gibbers’ Public Art Project was designed and created by Victorian artists Glenn Romanis, Mark Trinham and local artists Joyce Crombie and Jean Crombie-Barr. https://instagr.am/p/CKfOkLLh0eS/

Exploring the lush green rainforests of tropical North Queensland. We ventured north across the Daintree River on the vehicle ferry and had lunch where the rainforest meets the sea at Cape Tribulation. I remember visiting this beautiful place as a child (way back in the seemingly ancient year of 1983). It was a thrill to finally return to this place with my own children. #rainforest #exploretnq #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #cairns #daintree #roadtrip https://instagr.am/p/CKESzoxh60q/

Celebrating 2000 posts on @instagram with a reworked version of my most popular image on Instagram over the past decade. When I first began posting on Instagram I had no idea what amazing opportunities the platform might bring my way. We were living at the Cape Moreton lighthouse when I started using Instagram. I guess it was an interesting story at the time - a young family living at a remote and windswept lighthouse on an island near Brisbane! I became a 'featured user' twice on Instagram in the early days, picking up tens of thousands of followers each time. It was a little bit hectic for a while! There were media interviews and even a feature story on ABC's 7.30 program. I scored some amazing sponsorships (including a brand new 4WD for five months) and some wonderful opportunities to travel. I even got to be in a beer commercial in Far North Queensland! Over the years things have settled down and many of my initial followers are no longer active (which has not helped me to sustain engagement or grow my account further under the current Instagram algorithm). But I still very much enjoy posting images on the platform. My photography has certainly come a long way since my first Instagram post although it's still very much a hobby for me (with the occasional paid gig). I enjoy the creativity and the sense of community. I have formed many great friendships online through Instagram and received some wonderful support and encouragement over the years. Unfortunately I still struggle with anxiety and a lack of confidence in my creative abilities at times, and I definitely spend far too long trying to come up with captions for each post... but overall it's been an awesome ride so far. I've been lucky enough to become a @queensland creator this year and got to spend time with some of Queensland's most talented photographers and content creators in the Whitsundays recently. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business! What an incredible experience! So thanks to Instagram for opening my eyes to a world of weird and wonderful opportunities. And thank YOU for following along! 🙂 #instagram #2000posts #thankyou https://instagr.am/p/CI5D_5rBh7m/

A golden sunset silhouette to kick-start your Monday. This was captured a few weeks ago at @tangaloomaislandresort. It's currently rather wet and wild in South East Queensland. We've headed south in Bronte the bus to Victoria for Christmas but are keeping up to date with the weather alerts for SEQ. I can't believe that Upper Springbrook had 475mm of rain in one day! Stay safe and dry everyone. On a brighter note, this weather system has delivered some much needed heavy rains to K'gari (Fraser Island) and has apparently helped to contain the bushfire that's been burning there for two months now. #mulgumpin #moretonisland #visitbrisbane #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #tangalooma #sunset #silhouette #travelwithkids #family #abcmyphoto https://instagr.am/p/CIwP52Yh54e/

The Tangalooma Wrecks are a most spectacular sight from high above. This popular snorkelling site is located only a stone's throw from Brisbane. Fifteen ships were deliberately sunk off Moreton Island between 1963 and the 1980s to create a safe anchorage for boaties. There are lots of options for exploring this place. There are day tours from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the Micat vehicle and passenger ferry lands nearby on the beach0 and the Tangalooma resort is just a short walk down the beach. There's also a national park campground at The Wrecks. #tangalooma #moretonisland #mulgumpin #seeaustralia #thisisqueensland #snorkelling #shipwreck #brisbane https://instagr.am/p/CIHvDZfBF5C/

Welcome to Mulgumpin or Moreton Island, the third largest sand island in the world. This is Quandamooka country. I was lucky enough to live on this beautiful island for five years when I worked as a park ranger and lighthouse caretaker. Our two boys both spent their first years living on this island. It's a special place and very dear to our hearts. This week I'm returning to the island with my family to revisit some of our favourite places. This shot was captured today at the Big Sandhills. We're gazing back across Moreton Bay towards the city of Brisbane (which is only 90 minutes away by ferry). This is one of my favourite locations in all of @queensland and @australia! #mulgumpin #moretonisland #visitbrisbane #thisisqueensland #seeaustralia #travelwithkids #abcmyphoto #exploreaustralia https://instagr.am/p/CH7Jw6Eh2jK/
