My rot merged sona – Dreams of Calamity – now has a proper ref sheet! :D
(Rot merged are an original subspecies of iterator I made. More info on them can be found deeper into my blog.)
Short character description below the cut:
Dreams of Calamity is a fierce hunter with a voracious apatite. Yet despite the hunger and predatory instincts her rot imposes on her – she still remains mostly peaceful towards sentient creatures. Though, she’s also quite mischievous and can be a bit of a menace with her love for joking around... Quite a lot like NSH when you think about it actually. (I’m sure they would get along quite well.)

Hello fellow rot creature! How has the assimilating been going?
I've been real busy lately, y'know, with all conversions and the nesting in walls. Don't even get me STARTED on the Rot Bread incident.
But enough about me, how's life on your side of the cyst pile? :)
Oh, it’s been going well. But of course, we could always use more members~ So if any more iterators want to join us... we'd be happy to welcome you into our ranks~ We promise you'll be so much more happy running around free as a rot merged than continuing to sit trapped in your cans~
Join us in my discord, become one with the rot~

Hell yeah! More rot merged join the roster!
@kelnexia
got bored. Turned Pages into a rot merged.
I can imagine Scout (her rodent son) helps feed her. She most likely regrets her decision to become half-rot…

This isn’t the first species reference page I made for the rot merged, but I felt the need to make one that helps clarify on some details about their hunting and feeding mannerisms. Because as we all know, the rot consumes, and letting yourself be merged with it means you must do the same. >:)
Rot merged are an open subspecies of iterator, and you can join my discord sever if you’re interested in making one!

My rot merged DMS skins have recently been updated!
The main changes are:
I finally gave the rot merged mouths to better fit their actual intended design, I gave everyone but Pebbles pupils to match my more recent iterator designs, I added colorless versions for more customization options, and I added Sliver of Straw. (Don’t asked how, Moon must have gotten a hold of a time travel device.)

So while this took me a lot longer than it should have, (mostly because I’ve been working on a new rot merged species reference page to release shortly after this)... I have finally brought the Rot Merged Discord Server up into a usable state! It's still not perfect, but at least it now has all the channels it needs to function as a good space for chatting, sharing art, and role playing!
So feel free to join me there if you like the Rot Merged AU, or if you just want to have a small, accepting community of fellow Rain World fans to hang out with! But beware... The rot consumes. >:)

I was originally off put by the purple rot in Watcher’s campaign. But after meeting Prince and getting to know him, I quickly found myself starting to like him. I never expected sentient rot to be so polite, yet he is, and I fucking adore him! <3
I just had to draw him. And even though I’m pretty sure he’s meant to be more of a flower in game – I instead had the idea of making him a fluffy owl creature! (And you’re welcome to also draw him like this if you want. I wouldn’t mind.)
Hmm... I really do have a soft spot for the rot, don’t I.

Edit: I’m adding this on a few days later after realizing that I probably overacted here. The Watcher dlc is actually not that bad. It’s certainly rushed and you can really tell it’s rushed, but it’s not as bad as I made it out to be in this post. It’s just not what I personally would have wanted, and I was disappointed by the direction they ended up taking it in. It’s just not really meant for me, and that’s fine. I was always more into the iterators and the bio-mechanical speculative technology side of Rain World, and that’s not what this dlc ended up having much focus on. But that’s completely fine. It’s just not what I personally would have been interested in. Oh well, at least I still have Downpour for that front.
The original post is below the line. You can read it if you want, but do keep in mind that it was written out of frustration, and that I no longer agree with everything I said there.
.............................................................................................................................
So I just played through a large part of The Watcher dlc and got stuck part way through and I already have some things to say about this dlc and none of them are good.
Watcher spoilers below the cut, obviously. Also it’s a long rant because I have a lot to say about how it’s not all that great in my opinion. And no, it's not just because I'm mad I got stuck, there's actual validate concerns I have here, so please read this if you don't mind spoilers.
So I got stuck after nearly getting to the end. And I’m not going to finish playing through this thing, because it isn’t even fun to go through. And not in the way that Rain World is meant to be difficult, but in the way that the navigation in this dlc is absolute garbage! The portals don’t get marked on your map when you find them so you have to just remember where they are, and they often end up being in places that don’t make sense for a region transition to be in. Unlike the original world which did have its gates in logical places and the paths to them were pretty straight forwards.
Speaking of which, this dlc doesn’t even take place in the actual world of Rain World that I had fallen in love with and was wanting to see more of. No, instead it takes place in a confusing mess of modded regions that have been hastily stitched together with portals that are confusing as heck to get through! And not to mention that you need to find the giggling echo repeatedly in order to progress, which doesn’t even have any indicator if it’s in a region or not, unlike Saint’s campaign which did have that. And it doesn’t even have any overseer like things to point you in the right direction like base game did! So if you like going in circles and making hardly any progress for hours, then go ahead, play this dlc. But otherwise, I’d really advise you to skip this one.
And while it doesn’t even take place in the actual world of Rain World, it still manages to implement lore that absolutely wreaks shit! Like the rot was just meant to be Rain World’s equivalent of cancer that was commonly the result of an error in the process of creating or modifying a purposed organism. It’s not meant to be some world corrupting threat that’s from an all consuming god of decay! It’s just meant to be cancer! It can’t survive very well outside of a host, getting noticeably weaker if it's own its own, and it sure as hell can’t take over entire worlds!
And for that echo you need to follow… It turns out it’s just some random child that got echoed. And echos are not supposed to be able to leave the place they got attached to. They are not meant to be able to travel to other realities and give slugcats reality breaking superpowers! All they’re meant to do is to be able to raise your karma if you visit them, that's it.
So long story short, The Watcher dlc is absolute garbage and it has the potential to ruin Rain World’s lore and game design if people don’t realize just how bad it is soon enough. Please spread the word on this, we can’t let this happen. Rain World is a beautiful game with an amazing world, I don’t want it to go the way of FNAF with how it ruined it’s own lore by over complicating things.

Hey ur rot merged au discord link is dead
Yes, I'm already aware of this.
I'll create a new link once I've finished work on setting up the server. But as of now, it simply isn't ready yet. Nor do I think I'm truly ready to manage one.
But if there ends up being enough of a want for one by my fanbase, I might as well focus on finishing it so it can be more properly opened in the future.
(Edit)
Actually, you know what? I might as well do that now. I'll make another post with the new link once I'm done setting it up.

A couple days ago I posted a toll on if I should give my versions of the iterators pupils; The results were leaning in the favor of giving all of them pupils, but give all but Pebbles pupils was a very close second and ultimately ended up being the option I preferred in the end. (Pebbles having blank white eyes is just such an iconic look for him, I didn’t have the heart to change it.)
And then I noticed that Sig had kind of lost the aspect of him having a striking eye design to make up for his lack of antenna when I gave the other iterators pupils as well… So I decided to give his eyes a more interesting and energetic mix of dark purple and bright green to keep that aspect of his design intact.

Finally someone brought it up! NSH is actually the most competent iterator we know of if you can see past his playful and joking mannerisms.
He was the only one to actually have any of his efforts pay off with making Hunter. Not to mention that he even thought to try it at all in the first place.
Actually it's heavily implied that he was the one who originally started the trend of using slugcats as messengers.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the others too, but Sig is best iterator in my opinion. Not only is he funny and adorable, but he's also secretly a lot smarter (or at least more mentally stable) than the rest of his local group.
NSH, the only sensible one of the group (which sucks for him as he wants to be the comic relief)
#rain world#rainworld#rw nsh#no significant harassment#rw iterator#iterators#yeah a lot of this was just me suddenly gushing over how much I like Sig#I mean there's a reason why my iterator sona ended up looking a bit similar to him

Recently I noticed that I tend to give nearly all my iterator ocs pupils and that I’ve already been drawing Sig with them… And that gave me the idea that maybe I should try giving them to all the cannon iterators as well.
I tested it on my rot merged sprites, but I can’t decide if I actually like how it looks or if it’s even a good idea to make any more changes at this point. So in my indecision I’m leaving it up to a poll;
