palestinians refuse to lose hope, and you need to do the same. it is very difficult to not spiral into despair when it feels like all you can do is watch this unfold on social media but you can't let that happen. you cannot let yourself become numb and exhausted and indifferent. stay furious and stay devastated. hold onto your grief and let it give you the power to keep pushing. to keep protesting, boycotting, calling your state representatives and congress members if you live in the us - you have to stay emotional. israel and the us want to bully you into numbness and despair because that's the key to getting away with this. either get your citizens to accept your propaganda as gospel truth or make them give up the fight.
apathy and doom-spirals only aid in israel and the us's genocide of palestine. you have to keep hoping and you have to keep believing that yes if you try hard enough you can contribute to making a difference. don't look away, and don't give up either, okay? 🇵🇸💗

See the Universe in a New Way with the Webb Space Telescope's First Images
Are you ready to see unprecedented, detailed views of the universe from the James Webb Space Telescope, the largest and most powerful space observatory ever made? Scroll down to see the first full-color images and data from Webb. Unfold the universe with us. ✨
Carina Nebula

This landscape of “mountains” and “valleys” speckled with glittering stars, called the Cosmic Cliffs, is the edge of the star-birthing Carina Nebula. Usually, the early phases of star formation are difficult to capture, but Webb can peer through cosmic dust—thanks to its extreme sensitivity, spatial resolution, and imaging capability. Protostellar jets clearly shoot out from some of these young stars in this new image.
Southern Ring Nebula
The Southern Ring Nebula is a planetary nebula: it’s an expanding cloud of gas and dust surrounding a dying star. In this new image, the nebula’s second, dimmer star is brought into full view, as well as the gas and dust it’s throwing out around it. (The brighter star is in its own stage of stellar evolution and will probably eject its own planetary nebula in the future.) These kinds of details will help us better understand how stars evolve and transform their environments. Finally, you might notice points of light in the background. Those aren’t stars—they’re distant galaxies.
Stephan’s Quintet
Stephan’s Quintet, a visual grouping of five galaxies near each other, was discovered in 1877 and is best known for being prominently featured in the holiday classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” This new image brings the galaxy group from the silver screen to your screen in an enormous mosaic that is Webb’s largest image to date. The mosaic covers about one-fifth of the Moon’s diameter; it contains over 150 million pixels and is constructed from almost 1,000 separate image files. Never-before-seen details are on display: sparkling clusters of millions of young stars, fresh star births, sweeping tails of gas, dust and stars, and huge shock waves paint a dramatic picture of galactic interactions.
WASP-96 b
WASP-96 b is a giant, mostly gas planet outside our solar system, discovered in 2014. Webb’s Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) measured light from the WASP-96 system as the planet moved across the star. The light curve confirmed previous observations, but the transmission spectrum revealed new properties of the planet: an unambiguous signature of water, indications of haze, and evidence of clouds in the atmosphere. This discovery marks a giant leap forward in the quest to find potentially habitable planets beyond Earth.
Webb's First Deep Field

This image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, known as Webb’s First Deep Field, looks 4.6 billion years into the past. Looking at infrared wavelengths beyond Hubble’s deepest fields, Webb’s sharp near-infrared view reveals thousands of galaxies—including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared—in the most detailed view of the early universe to date. We can now see tiny, faint structures we’ve never seen before, like star clusters and diffuse features and soon, we’ll begin to learn more about the galaxies’ masses, ages, histories, and compositions.
These images and data are just the beginning of what the observatory will find. It will study every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth, to the evolution of our own Solar System.
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space—and for milestones like this!

so glad it was sunny yesterday ☀️☺️. sorry I haven’t posted in awhile school has been kicking my butt lately but we’re getting through it😤. my professors weren’t the best this semester and that’s on me for not doing my research ahead of time🥲. but definitely going to make sure I do it for next semester😁. i was getting assistance yesterday from my aunt with choosing my classes and I started to have an existential crisis about what I wanted to major in. i want to do environmental engineering but my aunt is super skeptical of whether or not I can handle it. but I feel like I can do it so my gonna head on for it. sorry for the rant but I slept on it and finally made the decision ☺️

it’s almost november, which means it’s that time of the school year. it’s getting darker sooner, assignments are piling up, and a lot of my classmates are feeling exhausted. that is exacerbated by covid-19, personal stressors, and other factors that affect each of us differently.
as someone with high-functioning depression, i am well-acquainted with experiencing cycles of good and bad days, so i decided to write this little post of things that help me. (i hope these are helpful, but they may not work for everyone. you know yourself best.)
1. identify and acknowledge your feelings.
the first step is to sit with yourself a while and identify your emotions. it’s important to understand how you’re feeling and pinpoint a reason why, because emotions that are pushed down don’t just disappear. you don’t have to do deep soul-searching, and you don’t have to try and change your emotions right now. just get in touch with how you feel.
i like to tell myself “you’re feeling _____. that is okay and valid. you’re probably feeling like this because of _____.”
2. prioritize what you need to get done
okay, this one might be the hardest. i know it’s difficult to think about your to-do list when you might just want to sleep, but future you will be grateful that you at least made a dent in your work. think about what you need to do vs. what you should do. start the necessary items first, and don’t feel bad about skipping the less important ones.
for example: let’s say i needed to write an essay, do two readings, attend two zoom classes, take an online quiz, and attend two meetings. i might instead find a few sources for my essay, do one of the readings, attend the classes with my mic and camera off, skip the non-vital meeting, and attend the second meeting.
it’s mostly about modifying your schedule to be as non-taxing as possible.
3. give yourself extra time & comfort
don’t expect yourself to function exactly as you do when you’re feeling great. if possible, let yourself wake up slowly. do what you need to be comfortable as you start your day. listen to a lovely playlist, wear a hoodie & sweats, place a stuffed animal at your desk, turn on your fairy lights, etc.
this is why it’s important to cut back on your to-do list - completing tasks will take you longer. it is okay if things take you longer today. it has no bearing on your worth as a person or a student. resist the temptation to do everything just to prove to yourself that you can push past your own discomfort and need for rest.
4. let someone know how you feel
you don’t need to get specific if you don’t want to, but you should probably let a friend or loved one know how you feel.
a simple “hey, i’m not feeling great today, so if i act off that’s probably why” or "i’m feeling kind of down today so i might not [insert activity or behavior]” will help you be honest and keep the people close to you in the loop.
i had a bad habit of not telling people when i’m having a bad day and then getting annoyed when they act like everything’s normal! the truth is, they don’t know what you don’t tell them. who knows, maybe there’s something they can do to take some of the weight off your shoulders!
5. view your situation as if you were someone else
this one might sound a little odd, so bear with me. imagine that your friend, parent, sibling, partner, etc. were feeling the same way you are right now. what would you advise them to do? would you encourage them to take the time they need today? would you try to help them through it?
then do the same for yourself. it’s easy to think that other people are different, that they maybe have fewer bad days and therefore are “better,” that they don’t need to push their feelings down like you do. that is false!! try to identify three things that you would recommend a loved one do when they’re feeling down, and then apply those to your situation.
6. know that this feeling is temporary
you will not feel like this forever. it is hard to truly believe that when it feels like life will not get better, but i am here to tell you that it does. get. better. this summer was the worst of my life (no exaggeration - my mental health was at rock bottom), and while i still have bad days, i can confidently say that you will move past this.
lastly, here is a website i think has some good advice - it takes into account that we all have varied needs. it’s written for people with depression but honestly is mostly applicable to everyone. just do what works for you <3

3rd dec - what is your least favourite thing about winter?: getting out of bed in the morning! as it gets colder, it gets harder to leave the warmth of my blankets ;(
4th dec - what is an unpopular opinion that you have about winter?: i quite like the grey drizzly days. most people prefer the crisp sunny days or the snow, but i think the cold rain and grey sky is nice!
5th dec - are you usually busy during winter?: usually not, but i like to give myself stuff to do over the break
