She also realised she needed to get a grip and pull herself together, she shouldn’t be freaked out by a damn slushie machine after all. “It’s a slushie machine, it’s a frozen drink, crushed ice with flavoured syrup and if you drink it too fast if gives you.. brain.. freeze.” She added, the words feeling heavy in her mouth. “You should try one, they’re good.”

Kenna looked at the girl strangely as she explained. Whether it was because of the explanation itself or the way she was explaining it, she didn’t know. Clearly the brunette wasn’t fond of these slushies, “That doesn’t sound very pleasant. Why would anyone want a brain freeze?”

“Oh that’s nice. Unless he’s not hear with you then it probably isn’t nice to be away from him,” Kenna replied with an apologetic smile, “Thank you. You’re so kind of helping me.”

Veronica knew she probably looked like a mad woman right now, standing in the line at the store, arms filled with groceries as she stared long and hard at the slushie machine on the counter. She couldn’t take her eyes away from it, freeze your brain, whispered in the back of her head followed by, our love is god. Words that still made her shudder to this day, even in her do over world. She was only broke out of her trance when she heard someone clear their throat behind her and she realised she had been holding up the queue, “Shit, sorry-” She exclaimed, moving forward and dumping her purchases onto the desk, “I sort of just got lost in my head for a second, you know how it is-.. or maybe you don’t. But yeah, sorry.”

“No, I’m not buying anything I was just wondering if you knew what that was,” Kenna pointed to the slushie machine behind her, “I saw you staring but I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Jack was nothing like Lucifer, or at least, he didn’t want to be. His mother had always told him he could choose who he wanted to be, and he choose to be good. “My mother’s name was Kelly.” Jack said. “She was a human, but she died giving birth to me. I miss her, even though i never got to meet her.”

“I hope that didn’t sound judgmental at all,” Kenna replied suddenly worried that she had been, “I’ve seen many children turn out nothing like their parents,” In fact, many of the people who had been around her in France had done everything they could not to turn into the people who brought them into the world. Kenna smiled sadly, “I’m sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ve got more of her in there than Lucifer,” It was likely considering what she knew about the devil.

“I was hiding from my father, Lucifer.” Jack stated simply. He realized that his blunt confession was probably not the right thing to say. He didn’t want to scare off the person he had only just met so he quickly added, “But you don’t have to worry, i’m not like him. I take after my mother.”

“Lucifer? As in the devil?” Kenna asked furrowing her brow. She hadn’t given much of a damn about religion in her time but she didn’t mess with the devil or any kind of demons. Her husband - or was it former husband? - had made her wary, “Who was your mother?” She added curiously.

Jack tried to recall any memory he had of how he ended up in Wintervale. “The last thing i remember was being in the bunker. I fell asleep in my room.” He explained. “When i woke up i was here. At least, i think i was. I’m not sure now.” Jack started to grow frustrated with himself. He wanted to remember but his mind kept drawing up a blank. “I don’t understand what’s happening to me.”

“A bunker? Were you hiding from something?” Kenna asked, furrowing her brow, “People are just waking up here. Nobody is sure why or how or even where we are really but that’s what’s happening.”

Couldn’t whoever who was behind this have waited until he was in math class or something. The hand on his shoulder did act as a calming effect however, focusing on this mysterious woman and the words she was speaking to try and divert his thoughts from his own problems. “That’s-… how?” He asked, not really knowing why he expected her to have the answers, “Peter Parker, modern day Queens, it’s nice to meet you too.”

“I don’t think you’re there now and I don’t think there’s anything to be done about that either,” Kenna replied with a helpless shrug, “I know about as much as you do. Possibly a little more but not much. I was in Sweden writing to my queen, Mary, about my daughter’s birth in 1559 and then I was here. Similarly to you except you were in a fight slash war thing,” Kenna smiled warmly, “Peter. That’s a nice name.”
