ficlet - not bucktommy (despite his pov)

Tommy spots him after touch down, sitting despondently on the edge of the bed of a black truck. It's not obviously not Buck's truck, as it's got some government insignia on the side and it's sandwiched between two military-grade Jeeps. He's wearing some of the simple LAFD-issued clothing, curled up in one of his jackets, looking rumpled and exhausted. His curls are a mess, run-through and loosing shape, and his face his red and blotchy. His face is devoid of any emotion and Tommy thinks he couldn't look more beautiful.

Suspecting Buck might appreciate some comfort after- well, after. Tommy decides to go to him. Maybe he can be there for Buck through this, show him that he's someone to rely on through such disasters, then, well...

Buck doesn't look up as he approaches. He doesn't even seem to him until he says his name, "Buck."

Buck's head whips up and Tommy cautiously continues, "I'm so, so sorry. I heard what happened. I've been with the team up in the air."

Buck's eyes instantly well up and he looks to the side, hiding his face.

Tommy steps closer, reaching his hand out, "I'm sure-"

"Evan!" a voice cuts him off from a few vehicles away. Tommy puts his arm down as he watches the breath get caught in Buck's chest. Eddie steps out from a Jeep. Shit.

Wasn't the goddamn guy in Texas?

Buck rears back, looking at Eddie in disbelief.

"Eddie?" In that small voice of his. Damn.

Eddie barrels towards them, not even sparring a glance towards Tommy. Buck doesn't look away, looking almost scared. Eddie's arm comes down on Buck's shoulder once he reaches them, panting a little, like he's been running around. His hand falls at the base of his neck, his thumb coming to rest in the groove of Buck's clavicle. Buck is instantly leaning into it, looking up at him with those wide blue eyes, wet and red-rimmed. It's a look Tommy thinks is gorgeous and has only really seen directed towards Eddie.

"Eddie?" Buck asks again, "You're here?"

Tommy sees Eddie's eyes start to glisten with tears, too, "Of course, Buck. I came as soon as I heard."

Buck just let's out one last "Eddie," voice breaking on the last syllable, before falling into Eddie, face buried in his chest. Eddie simply curls into him, wrapping his arms around Buck and burying his face into Buck's wild curls. He hears a small, "I'm sorry," but can't even make out who it was who said it. Well.

Tommy has completely ceased to exist to either of them. No use in hurting himself more, so he walks off. He shouldn't even be surprised. He always knew who was gonna win.

how would people feel about a buddieblr discord. as the name implies specifically for people on tumblr to chat and keep in touch as tumblr's future is so uncertain right now. i want to make it as simple and not overwhelming as possible. because i know discord can be overwhemling for a lot of people. so not too many channels. some buddie specific channels. general 911 chat. livewatch. an art corner. i set up the bare bones of one so thought i'd put the question out there.

wait actually. can we talk about how eddie was like gagging up a storm at the vomit in his backseat but the second chris throws up he doesn't hesitate, doesn't bat at eye, he is At His Side, Cleaning Him Up, Taking Care Of Him because that's his baby, that's his baby, and he loves him so much, nothing not even a little bit of barf could get in the way of that 😭😭😭

cannot stop thinking about chris's shy hopeful "you'll be my dad again?" like goddddd

so okay. he went with his grandparents to get some space after a trauma. that's probably actually helpful at first. but then.. weeks start to go by and his dad hasn't come to get him or told chris he needs to come home. and then he starts to get inundated with snide little comments from his grandparents (who he also loves!!) insinuating eddie wasn't/couldn't be a good dad to him, which chris then interprets as them saying eddie doesn't want to be his dad anymore. which, in chris's mind is definitely a thing that happens sometimes right? like sometimes your mom decides she doesn't wanna be your mom anymore and just leaves in the middle of the fucking night. so here's this fourteen year-old thinking he literally drove yet another parent away and his grandparents aren't doing a fucking thing to dissuade him from that notion, in fact they're actively encouraging it!!!! like just when i thought i couldn't hate them any more than i already did..
