A year and a half ago, Harper/Greenwillow agreed to publish my strange little existential monster book. Today, it debuted at #1 on the NYT list.
It’s been a long and winding road, one with so many hills and so many valleys, and one with many miles still to go, but I just want to take a second and say thank you.
To the readers who’ve been with me for years, and the ones who’ve just discovered my work. To the devoted fans and the ones taking a chance. To the ones who feel monstrous, and the ones trying to be human.
Thank you.

I keep wanting to read ‘Adult’ books, but Young Adult lit is constantly stepping up their game, with diverse characters, lush world building, intriguing and complex plots and genre experiments, and adult lit is all ‘Feeling unfulfilled with nice job better go back home and get to the bottom of a small town scandal from 20 years ago and maybe get in a love triangle?’ Also we’re all white and attractive and don’t listen to music.

okay maybe this is just me but like when you’re deep inside of a good book but forced to put it down for a bit does the outside world seem weird and soft and like you find yourself thinking in the author’s voice and even after you’re done with the book there’s like this “book hangover” where you’re still in the writer’s world and seeing the characters and hearing the narrator and stuff feels… different ….

‘Sunai, Sunai, eyes like coal
sing you a song and steal your soul’
decided to take a little break from revision to do a little sketchpaint of @veschwab‘s August from her upcoming release ‘This Savage Song’. It’s already been released in the UK, can’t wait for everyone to read it so we can yell about book things together!
