I will forgive every boring aspect of the pjo show if they make Clarisse and Silena girlfriends in season 5.
There, I said it.

‘Logan Lerman should’ve been Poseidon’ You fools. You absolute buffoons. I can’t believe we are sleeping on the comedic gold of him getting casted as the man, the myth, the stepdad that stepped up: Paul Blofis

I know people are complaining that Percy is too smart in the show. But he’s… not? And it’s annoying? The problem is that he knows too much. Percy is much smarter in the books. He barely knows the legends but when he is faced with them, he (and Annabeth) makes a plan to outsmart or outmatch the problem.
Knowing facts doesn’t make anyone smart. Using the facts they know makes them smart. And the way that it’s been done, Percy already knowing all the legends, only takes away the fun of finding out what they are dealing with and having to put a plan together in the moment.
Even when they get it wrong (the lotus cassino), they barely have to deal with their failed plans. It’s boring to watch.
Which is why I loved the scene with Hades so much. Percy thought he knew what was going on. He didn’t. And then he received new info, had to process it in the moment and make a decision. That was fun to watch. I hope the last episode has more of that. And that the second season does too.

Me: the show is making Poseidon too sympathetic. He’s an absent father and an asshole.
PJO show: Sally calls and Poseidon comes running
Also me: yes please, they are lovely. 10/10. No notes.

So, about the four pearls in the PJO show
I think is only a problem for the people who read the books and were expecting it to be three pearls (me. I’m one of those people).
Poseidon would give Percy an extra pearl for Sally, so I get the change in the show. I just wish Percy had kept all four pearls and he lost one. He’s the main character, it should be his responsibility and his fault. The whole point is forcing Percy to chose among those he loves and him refusing to. The way they did it, it was underwhelming. Once again, it’s Percy having to deal with a problem caused by someone else. Just another small change that makes sense but was badly executed.
(Alternatively, nobody loses a pearl and Sally simply can’t use because she’s a statue. She can’t break a pearl because she can’t move. There you go, no contrived plot point.)

I haven’t watched the new series yet, can you tell us what you dislike about it?
Mostly, the directing. Most of the scenes are static and uninspiring. Why would a show about Percy Jackson, one of the most action-packed book series the YA genre has to offer, have so many scenes of people just talking to each other? Do the actors really need to stop whatever they are doing every time they have a conversation? Can't they be at least eating while they talk, if they are sitting at a table and having a meal, for example? Give the actors something do while they deliver the lines, it will help to make the scenes feel more dynamic.
There's also no difference between comedic scenes, action scenes or dramatic scenes. They manage to make some of the best working actors of today fall flat. I mean, how do you make Jason Mantzoukas boring? How do you get Glynn Turman to be this lifeless? Like, fuck me, Lin-Manuel Miranda needs to fight to be charming in this.
Besides the directing, I don't care for some of the creative choices in adapting the material. Mind you, nonny, not all of them. Some creative choices I absolutely loved. I agree with the showrunners that the plot needs to move, they need to be out and about on the quest as fast as possible (you'll see that Percy spends very little time at camp). But then, let the plot points that are included breathe. It feels rushed, like the show is trying to run to a certain point.
Plus, I hated the last episode, episode 6. I hated it. I fell asleep watching, it was boring and confusing. And it was not funny. Percy Jackson needs to be funny.
Hopefully, the next two episodes are better. And I do think all I mentioned is fixable, so I'm keeping my hopes cautiously up for the second season, if the show is renewed.

I’m so sad there’s a love triangle in Legendborn because it makes me not love a book I otherwise find really cool.
Also, I managed to finish it way quicker once I stopped listening to the audiobook and just read the book. It was 100% the narrator stopping me from fully enjoying the story. No hate to her though, narrating is hard work.
Anyway, the twist at the end is awesome. Great read. Definitely recommend.

I’m having a really hard time because I’m listening to Legendborn on audible and the story seems so cool but I can’t stand the narrator.
I cannot stand her. Well, her narration.
She makes Bree sound like the whiniest most annoying person in the world. And I just know she is not supposed to be that.
I’m gonna have to physically read this, right?
#legendborn#i actually already bought the physical copy#which i only do for books i really like#but it’s chapter 23 and she’s stiil annoying#not her words#the way she speaks#fuck i was so excited for this series
