The author's curse... it's real-
Two weeks ago I was chuckling about the author's curse thinking "there's no way". Turns out, there IS way. This week my computer simply stopped working out of nowhere 💀 so, hey, no Crimson Threads until I get it working again. So sorry about this!

Some people could never move on, and Kate was one of them.
And maybe that’s why she was able to unravel the secrets no one was looking for anymore.
She’d always go to her father’s study, despite her mother occupying the place now and having trinkets all over the place, it was the place where she mostly felt Derek’s presence. Not her room, not anywhere else. But the study.
A sudden curiosity had started rising upon her chest as she playfully searched every drawer on the desk, every dusty book on the shelves. She had no idea what happened when a sudden hidden door opened behind the books, throwing everything to the ground. She gasped, gripping the file quickly and going through the papers.
It was all evidence on someone named Kingpin, and things written in her father’s handwriting. Tears prickled on the archer’s eyes as she quickly closed the file and looked at the study. Did her mom know about this?
Doubtful, she made a point to forget Derek and that night, focusing solely on Kate and the company.
Kate put everything back in place and took the file with her. Everyone had thought her father’s killer being in jail had brought justice to his name, but Kate didn’t.
Because it had to be bigger than business deal gone wrong for people in tactical clothes to invade the place, wreaking havoc, murdering Derek in cold blood in the middle of the night in his study instead of waiting for when he went out to work. And it made much more sense for him to have pissed off someone named Kingpin than for someone to hire a mafia that only wore tracksuits – and wasn’t even wearing it in the attack.
If no one cared anymore, Kate did.
Tumblr media
“Why are you helping me?” Kate questioned, studying the stranger’s movements. The woman had sat on the ground and was going through a part of backpack with some armory. “What’s even your name? I think I deserve those answers.”
“I saved your life, isn’t that enough?” The stranger dodged by making another query. She didn’t look at Kate, but her movements had become stiff, her breathing quickened by a notch. There was more to it, more than she was willing to share.
“No.” Kate shook her head, seating down in the opposite direction, eyeing the woman. “How can I trust your motives if I don’t know them? Or else, I’ll just call you Grumpy.”
The stranger’s eyes moved to meet Kate’s before she groaned in displeasure, as if she found that the most ungrateful act ever seen by humanity. As if Kate was her Judas.
“Name’s Y/n.” She says after a long moment of silence, barely looking at the raven-haired woman. “Kingpin…” The words seemed stuck in her throat. “His mafia killed someone important to me a long time ago.”
As Kate absorbed the stranger's words, a subtle shift in her demeanor caught her attention. Breaking the usual veneer of confidence and authority, there was a hint of sorrow, a glimpse of pain hidden behind steely resolve. It was a fleeting moment, gone in an instant, but it left a lingering impression on Kate's mind, a nagging curiosity about the Y/n’s past.
“Is that enough?” The woman’s voice and demeanor came back to its usual way. Serious, stoic. Like she didn’t care at all, but it made Kate feel like maybe she cared too much.
“No, but I doubt you’ll give me more.” Kate states as she looks at Y/n, trying to catch a hold of her, to understand her. But all she does is nod.
Y/n looks at Kate, who’s looking expectantly before Y/n huffs heavily, as if she’s making tremendous force just to open up.  Although she seems to know that she has no choice but to say more. As much as she’s saving Kate’s ass, the archer is as stubborn as they come.
“Look.” Y/n starts before her jaw is tightly locked, anger seeping through her pores and being visible in her expression. It wasn’t directed at Kate, she wasn’t even looking at the archer. “I am well aware you have a lot of questions, but I do not have answers to all of them. Know that I hate Kingpin as much as you do, and our forces are stronger combined.”
“Fine.” Kate seems to realize that she won’t be able to push further than that. “At least now I know you won’t kill me.”
“Took you long enough to realize it.” Y/n said, eyeing a gun magazine like that was the most natural thing in the world. Then she pulled a vanity bag from the backpack and shoved it in the archer’s direction. “There’s a change of clothes in the backpack and some food there, if you want to eat.”
Kate eagerly opened the vanity bag, not wanting to keep looking at the stranger messing with guns. “Chocolate and energy bars? That’s food?”
“Excuse me for not having a five star Michelin meal, but we’re on the run.” Y/n shook her head in disbelief at that.
“Right, and you think chocolate will do good with the amount of adrenaline in our bodies? We’ll run alright, but to the nearby bathroom!” Kate shook her head negatively, picking up one of the energy bars and opening it up. “That’s the most embarrassing death ever, Grumpy.”
Y/n sighed and didn’t answer, she seemed to be finding Kate infuriating. Instead, she focused on something else, getting up. “I’ll keep guard, you should rest.”
The archer could only look as the woman got out of the room, closing the door behind her, the steps getting farther and farther. Kate sighed as she bit the energy bar before she seemed to finally realize, in the middle of rushing out of the place she didn’t pick her phone up. News travelled fast, her mom was influential and the owner of a security company, it was a matter of time before she discovered everything and sent a search party after Kate, which meant she could become a target too. Munching the food in pure anxiety, she allowed herself to fall into the sleeping bag.
What was the deal with Y/n, anyway? There was a lot to unpack there, and she certainly weren’t a therapist to help whatever the hell that was. But she couldn’t deny it, Grumpy Sneaky-McSaverson was going to be of help. And if anything, she was the only one Kate could rely at the moment.
Tumblr media
It took all of Y/n’s self control to resist the urge to flee the room; The sensation of flying too close to the sun, akin to Icarus, was overwhelming. Being near Kate was overwhelming. Of course, Kate found her sketchy; the skepticism etched across her face made it painfully evident. Of course, she couldn’t comprehend why a stranger would possess such detailed information and risk everything to save her. Kate was intelligent, and it was only a matter of time before she realized that Y/n held more secrets than she was willing to divulge.
Until she realized that Y/n knew her.
Tumblr media
It was like any other day. The warmth enveloped Y/n's heart as she finally arrived at the place that felt like home, where comforting hugs awaited, pecks elicited giggles, and the sweet smell of lavender lingered in the air—a scent she associated with her fiancée, Kate. She had, not so secretly, appropriated Kate’s favorite shirt to keep her presence close, even when they were apart.
“So I can have you near me, even if we’re afar.” Had been the motive for stealing the shirt, and truth be told, Y/n wasn’t lying.
But when Y/n reached Kate’s apartment, an eerie silence greeted her. The dog’s normal ruckus wasn’t heard - he normally seemed to sense her presence even before she stopped at the front door - and there was nothing to state her girlfriend was even home. The sound of arrows hitting their targets, laughter or any Taylor Swift album loudly blasting was conspicuously absent. Which was weird, because Kate knew she was coming and she knew better than to do pranks like this.
Upon trying to put the keys in the door, it opened slightly. Y/n finished to push it open, and the previously well-oiled door groaned ominously, revealing a scene of chaos within.
Her fiancé wasn’t the most organized person in the world, but this chaos was beyond her usual messiness. She cared for independence and all of the trinkets that were now scattered all around, broken beyond repair. Including many that Y/n had gifted her. The table was upside down, the couch had been ripped and was full of bullet holes. Y/n’s heart raced as she cautiously stepped inside, the crunch of glass beneath her feet punctuating the silence. It was part of the cheesy snowglobe they got last Christmas.
Kate loved that damn thing too much to not try to fix it immediately.
“Lucky?” Y/n called out softly, her voice tinged with fear as she spotted the dog's tail.
She approached Kate’s training spot underneath the stairs with trepidation, her senses on high alert, a sense of foreboding settling in her chest instead of the warm feeling that would always be there at the mere thought of the cozy apartment.
And then she saw him—Lucky, lying on his side, a pool of blood staining the floor beneath him, a stark contrast against his golden fur. He was gone. The vision made her heart and stomach drop, she used to think of Lucky as the first of their furry kids.
Y/n's voice caught in her throat as tears streamed down her cheeks. “No, Lucky…” With trembling hands, she brushed past shattered memories, each broken trinket a painful reminder of what had been lost and leaned down to mourn with a gentle hand caressing Lucky’s head when a sudden thought stopped her on her tracks.
Kate.
With a sinking heart and blood turning cold, Y/n rushed to the bedroom on the second floor upon realizing there was no sign of her lover on the first one. She stumbled over discarded and bloodied arrows, heart fast against ribs and loud against ears.
The bow was on the ground, and so was Kate’s motionless body. Eyes closed, her cozy sweater — the one Y/n had stolen so many times before was stained crimson in the chest. There was no rise and fall of her chest, no sign of the Kate full of life she once knew. Instead this was a pale shell of her fiancé. Y/n fell to her knees beside her, vision blurred with the amount of tears falling and praying for it to be a nightmare, the world spinning as she cradled Kate’s lifeless form.
Kate was dead. Murdered.
"This isn't how it ends. I'll find who's responsible," Eleanor had vowed as they stood side by side in the cemetery. But as Y/n stared blankly at Kate's tombstone, clutching Kate’s engagement ring-turned-necklace — the only tangible remnant of the woman she loved — she felt nothing but numbness. The tears had long dried up, leaving behind a hollow ache.
Despite Eleanor’s promise, three years passed. And Kate’s death remained unavenged when Y/n met her demise at the hands of the same culprit.
Tumblr media
Isn't it ironic, she mused bitterly, to travel back in time and get a chance to save your fiancée from being murdered when you used to be a mere film student that could barely hold a camera without shaking too much?
Y/n wiped away her tears, upon waking up back in her younger self’s body, she realized that while she could relive those ten years, loving Kate all over again, she couldn’t prevent her from seeking vengeance against Kingpin. Kate would fall for her, but would she listen? Would she believe Y/n? Would she take the necessary precautions to stay safe? Kate was so fucking stubborn, and she wouldn’t bear the thought of Y/n spiraling down a dark path, becoming consumed by vengeance. That was not the justice Kate sought, but it was the only one effective enough to end the nightmare considering the archer would never let go, consequently neither would Y/n. Worst-case scenario, they'd both end up dead.
So, Y/n made a choice—to observe from afar, ensuring Kate's safety while she assumed the role of a monster, infiltrating the Tracksuit Mafia, gaining their trust without arousing suspicion. She'd bide her time, waiting for the opportune moment to strike, to eliminate the threat and save Kate. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her sudden journey through time, Y/n would use it to her advantage. All that mattered was keeping Kate alive, even if it meant that this was nothing more than her dying mind's attempt to make amends for failing to protect her.
And that's why, despite bringing Kate's favorite chocolate and energy bars, despite yearning to hold her close and assure her that everything would be alright, Y/n built walls around her heart. She'd save her fiancée this time, even if the cost was losing herself and everything she ever loved to do.

The bold phrase was on repeat on Kate’s mind, mingling with a flood of questions racing through her thoughts.
“Because I’m your only chance at survival.”
If the stranger was her only chance to survive, why was that? As a matter of fact, how did she even get the information Kate would be in danger? Was she trustworthy or leading the archer into a trap? The stranger’s attire mirrored that of the invaders she had killed, sparking uncertainty and suspicion in Kate’s mind, overshadowing any semblance of trust she might have harbored.
Positioned in front of the archer as a shield, gun in hand, the stranger exuded calculated confidence. Kate’s protests were stifled by fear of the gun’s deadly potential and her own survival instincts. She realized she had little choice but to obey and hope for the best. She also had an agenda of her own. Once the woman gets her out of the apartment, she’ll bolt.
They slowly make it out to the corridor, where another man waited hidden in the shadows. They get jumped by someone that was built like a distant relative of Hulk’s. Both the guy and Kate had little time to process as the woman between them react, a kick between the legs had him on his knees, whimpering before she took his head and smashed against metal railing with such force, it bended. Dazed, the man barely had chance to respond before he was shoved down the stairs with ruthless efficiency. Her swift and decisive actions hinted at a deeper knowledge of combat tactics, even more deadly than the invaders swarming around.
Bullets pierced the air, prompting the stranger to retrieve her gun and usher Kate back to the relative safety of the bedroom. Kate’s heart pounded in her chest as she grappled with the gravity of the situation. How many adversaries were they facing? Was escape even possible?
“Fuck.” She complained in an angry sigh, breathing heavily.
“Do you think we can take them?” Kate asked, starting to believe that it wasn’t so bad that the stranger was there, saving her. Yes, she was shady and killed two – possibly three – people with ease, but there was no way she would get out of there alone.
“Now’s not the moment to make questions, but yes.” The woman hissed, her urgency justified by the noises coming through: the invaders were strategically moving to be able to get both.
The archer almost groans at the rudeness but chooses silence over confrontation. Observing the stranger’s tense demeanor, Kate sensed an undercurrent of desperation beneath her steely exterior as she tapped her vest and got a hold of something unclear.
“How long can you hold your breath?” The woman’s hand grazed Kate’s arm, prompting a surge of adrenaline as she braced herself for the unknown.
The whispered question was serious, Kate wasn’t. And in the face of danger, she impulsively used the stranger’s words against her. “That’s a question.”
“Bishop.” The woman says, more serious than before.
“I don’t know!” Kate’s mind raced, grappling with the unexpected query. “Thirty seconds?” She ventured, uncertainty tingeing her voice.
“It’ll have to do.” the stranger replied tersely, revealing a bomb, and issuing swift instructions. “This will make it difficult for them to see us, but when it explodes do not breath in or you’ll pass out. When I run, go to the door to the rooftop and hide, I’ll be behind you. Got it?”
Kate gives her a short and fast nod, pulse quickening as she absorbed the gravity of their predicament.
The stranger nods and pulls the pin, holding it for a second before throwing it high. The explosion rocked the apartment, casting chaos and confusion in its wake, fog rapidly gaining space as the invaders screamed downstairs. Kate stopped breathing and followed as the woman rushed outside, shooting someone that was coughing on the steps.
“Run!” The stranger commanded, her voice the only thing grounding Kate in the chaos.
Kate sprinted with a newfound sense of purpose, her senses heightened by fear and desperation. She wanted to curse herself and the way she double checked if every door was locked before sleeping, until she turned the doorknob and saw the way to her freedom. There was nothing and no one in the rooftop but darkness, she sought refuge behind a weathered air conditioning unit, her breaths ragged and shallow. Moments later, the stranger appeared, her presence a welcome reassurance amidst the turmoil.
“C’mon, we don’t have much time.” Her savior urged, extending a hand to Kate.
Gripping the stranger’s hand with trembling fingers, Kate allowed herself to be pulled to her feet. As they fled down the fire escape, Kate’s mind buzzed with conflicting emotions. Fear warred with relief, uncertainty mingled with gratitude.
Tumblr media
Kate regretted many things in life, and still being weak despite years of training was one of them. Blindly following someone that so easily kills, hopping on a motorcycle with an unknown destination, all while praying it wouldn’t lead to a trap, only added to her list of regrets. It was stupid, she should’ve run away already.
Their destination, an abandoned warehouse, did little to ease her unease.
“Are you trying to get me alone to kill me?” Kate half-joked as they entered the dusty and dark place, removing the helmet as the stranger closed the door behind them.
“Don’t you think I could’ve done that already?” The woman's tone held no trace of amusement, revealing a simmering impatience as she maneuvered her bike deeper into the warehouse.
Seeking answers to quiet her racing mind and pounding heart, Kate pressed further. "Okay, then explain to me how someone I don’t know was out to protect me, dressing just the same as the people who attempted to murder me?"
The other remained silent at first, leading them to a secluded room that – once the door was open – stood out amidst the warehouse's dilapidated surroundings. Clean and organized, it held a backpack, and two sleeping bags. The stranger moved with familiarity, retrieving a powerful flashlight from one of her many pockets and illuminating the room before starting to shed the glasses, helmet and balaclava. As she turned to face Kate, the archer was struck by her beauty despite the disheveled appearance and traces of blood – that clearly wasn’t hers – on her face.
But now was not the time for such thoughts.
“Long story short, you managed to piss off the king of New York.” The woman stated matter-of-factly, her gaze as serious as her voice as she removed her bulletproof vest. “You thought you could use your family’s company to search here, hack there and no one would notice or care because you’re a star athlete that barely has time to breathe between maintaining a 4.8 GPA and competitions for an overwhelming amount of sports.”
Kate lifted her chin defiantly, attempting to mask her uncertainty with her usual unwavering confidence. "I have no idea what you’re talking about."
The woman emitted a dry chuckle before meeting Kate’s gaze once again. “I suggest you start jogging that memory of yours, Bishop, because the bounty in that pretty head of yours is enough to move an entire army.”
Kate's throat tightened at the revelation, feeling cornered and vulnerable, the echoes of her past struggles resurfacing once again. Under different circumstances, she was now Derek Bishop facing the barrel of a gun.

Kate has always been somewhat of a heavy sleeper, so much that the trait had become a running joke amongst the Bishop family. On school days, either Derek or Eleanor – her parents – would start waking her up thirty minutes before she alarm, knowing she needed extra time to shake off the her sleepiness. For thirty minutes, she’d be in an almost sleepwalking state. Not quite awake, not quite asleep. The somewhere in between, staring blankly into space as if contemplating deeply the mysteries of the universe. There were so many pictures of her staring into the void after waking up, it wasn’t even funny.
Loud conversations or the softest touch wouldn’t wake Katherine Elizabeth Bishop. But her deep slumber didn’t apply when it came to the noise of glass shattering against the floor, doors breaking, screams and gunshots.
Kate jolted up in her bed of her dimly lit room, suddenly completely awake – and terrified.
“Mommy! Daddy!”
Her screams of horror didn’t seem to be heard, and she bolted out of her room, running from the corridor to her parent’s room, where the bed was still perfectly organized. They never went to bed. Immediately Kate ran to the first floor of the penthouse, feeling like her heart was a short beat away from exploding inside her chest. Kate could barely see in the dark of dawn, and in her desperation the girl failed to notice the sharp pieces of broken glass, accidentally stepping on it. She winced and looked down, tears prickling from her eyes upon seeing the red liquid oozing from the wound.
“Mommy!”
The ten-year-old tried again, taking the sharp glass from her feet. The windows on the ceiling that provided little light had been broken, for some weird miracle the chandelier didn’t fall with it. Kate continued to limp on her path to her dad’s study when her mom suddenly approached from behind, engulfing Kate, and pulling her out of the way of the study before she saw anything in the moonlit room.
Eleanor was bloodied, shaking, tears falling freely from her eyes as she hugged Kate strongly. “I’m here, sweetie, I’m here.”
Tumblr media
A loud gasp escaped from Kate’s lips as she sat on the bed, small droplets of sweat forming on her forehead. Her dad had died twelve years ago, and since then it was easier to wake up on time to her duties, considering that several nights she’d wake up like this.
Breathless, sweating, missing her father. And several hours before her alarm.
“It was a business partnership gone wrong,” Kate could hear it all over again, the cops talking to her mom as young Kate pretended not to listen. “this is Tracksuit Mafia MO. We will bring justice to your family, Mrs. Bishop.”
Justice? Kate wanted to let out a bittersweet chuckle at the memory. Against Kingpin’s mafia there was no such thing. Even if the man that pulled the trigger had been behind bars for years from killing such an important person, the pain and the memory were still very much free inside the archer’s mind, more often than not Kate would go to sleep and relive that night all over again. There was no relief if Kingpin was still out there, reigning over New York and walking around like he owned the streets, meanwhile Derek Bishop had turned into just another statistic number in the incredibly bloodied hands of Wilson Fisk.
Small noises or the softest touch would easily wake Katherine Elizabeth Bishop now, but this time, when the noise of glass shattering against the floor and doors breaking reverberate around the apartment, she was already up. Kate jolted up to her feet on her dimly lit room, and despite always thinking about that fateful night and what she’d do different, the archer dropped to her feet, hiding behind the bed with trembling limbs. Fear mixed with the worst of nostalgias. Everything seemed to be the same, she could barely hear anything considering how loud her heart was beating, the similarity making her feel like a little defenseless kid all over again. This time Eleanor was not around and Kate seemed to be the obvious target.
The noise of quick steps fill the apartment and Kate can see the faint reflection of lights bouncing on the ceiling of her room and getting clearly stronger by the second. The raven-haired woman held her breath, getting ready for the inevitable when the light strongly hit the wall just next to her, a few centimeters to the side.
She counts the steps the invader takes inside the room.
One.
Two.
A sickening crack followed by the dull thud of a body falling, the light on the wall dropped too, hitting a weird angle in the corner of another wall, declaring loud and clear that the archer could have a 4.8 GPA, but she was horrible in cleaning spider webs in corners.
One.
Two.
Three.
The steps seem to take their time as a barely lit silhouette in black tactical clothes and a silenced pistol stopped in front of Kate, looming over her as intimidating as a predator, gun pointed straight at Kate’s head before lowering it slowly. The archer held a gulp. There’s a pause as they look at each other – Kate thinking how to gain the upper hand by using her karate against someone that clearly knew how to fight way better and could end her life in the blink of an eye.
“Kate Bishop.” A confident but low female voice vibrates around the room.
“Who wants to know?” Kate questions as she raises one eyebrow and her chin, a failed attempt to appear fearless despite the fact she was hiding behind her bed rather cowardly.
The noise of broken glass being stepped on broke Kate’s fake confidence and the conversation, the stranger looks in the direction of the portal leading to the corridor, getting in the position to fire her gun once again. Another flashlight hit the wall, but just as quick the silenced gun fired. The stranger remained up as there was another thud, now over Kate’s nightstand and significantly louder, dropping her books and lampshade on its way to the ground, blood dripping over her floor.
“We have no time for that, c’mon.” Her ‘savior’ mumbled and turned in her direction, crouching slightly and raising one hand as an offer for Kate.
But the raven-haired woman was as stubborn as they come, she eyed the gloved hand with wariness, not making a move. “Why would I take your hand?”
The stranger gripped Kate’s arm, seemingly losing all her patience, and pulled the archer up in one strong pull, whispering in strong conviction. “Because I’m your only chance at survival.”

So, for those interested in my upcoming Kate AU fic here's some updates - 03/22/24
MAJOR progress!!!!!
Last update I was rewriting everything, now we have 7 completed chapters. That's crazy lol;
The AU could legit already be finished BUT it's my exams week, I wrote as much as I could;
I wanted to post on my birthday next week, but I'll take some time to revise - and actually finish lol - the story, so the launch date can be either March 31st (celebrating my 1 year on tumblr) or April 1st;

Looking for a fic, help pls
The fic was called "Get out" or something like that, it was Kate x Reader and the prompt is that they fall asleep in the back of the car. They are best friends for years and are in a big Avenger event.
I accidentally refreshed the page in the middle of the story 😭😭 so if anyone has the link or knows the author, I'd appreciate it

Ah, yes. That's how Spider-Man was born. Definitely explains why they didn't tell how he was bitten, imagine telling the audience he used the wrong Sephora lotion.
Sephora has a lotion that attracts horny spiders out right now isnt life interesting

So, for those interested in my upcoming Kate AU fic here's some updates - 02/22/24
I promised I'd be back if there was major news before March 13th, and we've got big news.
I wasn't enjoying the way I've written the first three chapters, and went on to rewrite the whole thing lol.
The story feels like it has much more sense now and my head is clear on what's gonna go down, so I think it shall be easier writing the chapters.
I'll try to sit down an hour a day to develop this story, because I really want to post it, so hopefully by the next update we'll be on last adjustments.
Next update on March 22!
Thanks for your patience :)

So, for those interested in my upcoming Kate AU fic here's some updates - 02/13/24
Hi everyone, since it's been a bit over a month, I'd like to share with y'all the progress on the fic.
We already have a name for it, but I'm gonna keep it to myself for the mystery of it all lol;
I've been struggling to follow the whole 16-24 chapters plan, and I've got to admit that lots of and long chapters? Not my strong suit. At the same time, this story begs to be slightly longer for the development. Promise I'll do my best to deliver!
We're up to three chapters (struggling, like I said lol), but rest assured because the major events are already sorted out. I just need to fill some blanks;
I'm a college student and I work, so I have to write in the in-between moments of free time and sometimes I'm too tired for that or have zero creativity in the moment. I'm really hoping that I manage to publish the fic by March, but I can't promise anything.
I'm sorry that I don't have great news about the fic, but I'm hoping next update will be more promising. I'll be back by March 10th (earlier if something big happens). Wish y'all a good February :)
