update from the UK lads
gove and boris, pioneers of the leave vote, are literally MIA. like…no one knows where any of the leave campaign are
the chancellor is basically missing
we effectively have no PM
the tory party are in the midst of a civil war so brutal john major’s tenure looks chill
there may or may not be a snap election
the labour party literally barely exists as its shadow cabinet resigns en masse
labour’s deputy leader, hero of the story tom watson, spent the whole of the leadership crisis last night at a silent disco at glastonbury, while snapchatting
this fucking hilarious video in which it is revealed vote leave have no contingency plan and the presenter literally ends saying “i don’t know what to say to that”
no one actually wants to press the big red button (article 50) to start the process of brexit
this conspiracy theory appears to be entirely correct. seriously, read it. it basically suggests brexit is entirely impossible
nicola sturgeon, separatist first minister of scotland, is effectively the only leader with a plan: that plan being the break up of the united kingdom
literally we have become a meme

2016 is feeling more and more like that bit in movies where the time traveller accidentally kills a bug and when they return the world is Not Quite Right

I’ve never been more ashamed to be british. Today, instead of choosing unity and progression, we’ve chosen to cut ourselves off from the world in an attempt to appease the xenophobic nature of the older generation
For those of you who aren’t from the uk, the national referendum held yesterday has shown that the british people have voted (at 51.9% to 48.9%) to leave the european union. This was in large brought about by the old and poorly educated who blame immigrants for our problems, despite the net benefit they bring to our country, and the fact that many of these people will not have to live with the consequences of their decision for long
Less than a few hours have passed since the result was announced and already:
our prime minister has resigned (though he was unpopular the people poised to replace him are far worse)
the pound has fallen to levels not seen since 1985
Nigel Farage (leader of the most prominent far right party in the uk and at the head of the leave campaign) has already started backing out of promises to voters by being unable to guarantee the money we’ll save from the EU will go to the NHS instead
the UK itself looks poised to break apart in the next few years with Scotland (and to a lesser extent northern ireland) having voted to remain in the EU which will likely prompt another scottish referendum in which they’re more likely to leave
the far right parties of other countries such as france and the netherlands are demanding their own referendums and europe is crumbling
Nigel Farage has claimed this our ‘independence day’ and called for a bank holiday, which is hugely insulting to all the countries who actually had to fight for independence from imperialist britain
Tim Farron (head of the liberal democrats) phrased it nicely "Young people voted to remain by a considerable margin, but were outvoted. They were voting for their future, yet it has been taken from them.“
In short, our country has given in to hate, bigotry, and fear and has voted away the future of the younger generation. If there’s anything to learn from this it’s that the far right is on the rise. Don’t make the mistake of being complacent. Don’t let Trump win, don’t let any other EU countries vote themselves out of the running, and most importantly don’t forget to vote

Nigel fucking Farage, though. And that 100% lie about £350 million going to the NHS if we vote to leave. That he freely admits was totally made up and isn’t going to happen. I know everyone likes to joke about oh lol lying politicians they’re all the same!!! but no, they’re not. I am genuinely devastated about the result. I voted Remain, and am horrified by what this means for the future of our country. I know there were some absolutely awful people on the Leave side, with despicable views. But! Not everyone who voted Leave is Hitler reborn. Most are just reasonable people, with views that might not align with mine fully, but are hardly extreme. Those are the sorts of people who might’ve heard this pledge and thought “Hmm, yeah, I’d rather my taxes go to fund the NHS than the EU”. Not an unreasonable idea. So they voted Leave.
And now, he turns around and says that that was a lie. Oh, no, sorry, he says “well teeeeeeechnically I didn’t say that sooooooo…”. Whilst amazingly not having managed to admit to lying pre-Referendum. What an utter, utter bastard

as much as its fun to laugh at these brexit memes i don’t want anyone to forget how serious this actually is. i have one of my housemates crying in my room bc her career relied on the uk being a part of the eu (she wanted to go into foreign diplomacy). my mum is freaking out because the uk basically just put xenophobia and racism ahead of its own interests and she doesn’t know what that means for her immigrant self, or her british born foreign children. my brother-in-law who works for a french company is terrified that his job won’t be there tomorrow. i’m living in the netherlands rn and the pound has plummeted so much that the money i budgeted at the start of this month is no longer enough for me to make rent and eat. this is just the beginning and this is only how brexit is effecting one singular person (me). i can’t even imagine the wider damage this is gonna cause.
