New Zealand is the first in a few things🥇- we’re the first folk to see the sun rise everyday, we’re top at chucking a ball around a field, and climbing the tallest mountain “pretty quickly.” 🌅🏉🏔 We also were the first to see women flock to the polls to cast their vote. They could now do that thing where they participate in the democratic process and their voice and thoughts can contribute to how society is shaped 🗳we did that, today, 125 years ago 💅🏽 While New Zealand be out here doing these things, my personal goal is working on being a photogenic bystander in photos. ⚠️ PSA about the PSA - soz its a long one ⚠️ Today I attended one of those training development things that people usually sign up for to get a day off work. I can confirm that today was not one of those things where you can idly sit and nap; it was a day ON work, and insightful af 🗯 Today I learnt that the PSA champions the importance of the “human” in “human resources” for a work place 🕺🏽By breaking down the youth experience, PSA Youth specifically works toward improving working conditions and advocating for that ever so elusive “work-life balance” to be a a thing for New Zealand’s up and coming young labour force 🌈 ❌ It is also not a secret that people have been raised or informed to be wary of joining a union, as you’re likely to be signing up for: wasting your hard earned cash money on a bunch of people to argue on your behalf for stuff that never happens, career limitations, cancelled promotions, and last but not least, the dreaded “socialist reputation” 👀 ✔️ Cue that a “block out the h8ers” approach and spin it this way; you’re joining a collective that strives to drive the constant betterment of yours and your peers being afforded equity, fulfilment and security in the workplace, plus you’re safeguarding against those tiny T&Cs you probably never read when you eagerly signed your life away fresh out of uni 🤞🏽 Seems like a mouthful, but it is a fact of life that workplace relations aren’t always rosy (yes even in our friendly faced OECD economy), so if the opportunity to learn more about a union and/or employment relations is offered at your campus or workplace, 11/10 recommend.
