Akimoto Yasushi's Point Of View QJ Vol. 135 (December 2017)

It is my job to turn the energy the girls bring into words

Overall producer of Keyakizaka46 who creates all the lyric, Akimoto Yasushi. Though in the last year interview said, 'The first impression from all of the members was quiet. So I feel like to give them a song like 「Silent Majority」', but just in one year, his impression of them has changed greatly. The girls' existence is even more exciting than before.

Q: In the last feature We talked after the first performance in NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen has been decided and Futari Sezon is just released. After about one year supporting them, what Akimoto-san, as a Total Producer, understand deeply about the charm of Keyakizaka46?

Aki-P: Keyakizaka is different from the other group, and Keyakizaka is not the group that moves forward while keep worrying, I think. Of course AKB48 and Nogizaka46 also worry and lost along their own way, but AKB48 with their sports day sweat and tears struggle and walk along, also Nogizaka 46 with their girly and gentle teamwork. Meanwhile Keyakizaka is more tattered. Those individuality of 'tattered up' just always like a diffused reflection, becoming a group. Usually after some time passed, the group's color will become one, but it's not easy. In a word, too pure to mix. They respect each other.....so there are no sense of cooperativeness. But, that fresh side is its charm, I think.

Q:initially of course people's eyes went to the center Hirate-san, but i think people will gradually understand other members that could bring their personality.

Aki-P : To produce is, impossible to give direct value 0 or 1. Because just how far they could expand, due to they are a mysterious kids that we couldn't tell, it is interesting.

Q: How can you grasp the members view and personality?

Aki-P : Sometime I play shiritori directly with the members via LINE, sometime I also talk directly with them on location, I also listen to the reports from the managers,「Now they are being instructed like this, now they are worrying things like this」. things that was being told to me when i was in Junior High School, there must be some of them that overlapped, and there are also ones that are not. The difference between man and woman also exists, of course there is also the generation gap. Things that couldn't be understood, interesting. Keyakizaka46 lyrics are, the way I look at them, more like an observation diary.

「a close uncle」 but also 「an interpreter」

Q: In April this year the 4th single 「Fukyuwaon」 was released, and the emphasized lyric was 「I refuse to say yes」 「I'll keep resisting to the bitter end」 is this choice of words also the result of watching over the members?

Aki-P : 「Fukyuwaon」, 「Silent Majority」, and also 「Otona wa Shinjitekurenai」 are the same, the emotions of Keyakizaka46. Those girls, also have distrust in adults. I think Adult world, and our (members) world, there has to be clear division. I have to directly teach the girls about how adults are, I have to manage about Sony Music, I tell them (Sony Music) to be an adult for the time being. For example, it is often heard 「I wanna change my hairstyle, I wanna dye my hair but I was told no by Sony Music Records」. I often receive that kind of consultation message via LINE from members. In reverse to that, I reply 「shouldn't that be okay?」. The meaning is I also an「adult」but, how do I say it,「an uncle」that is probably close to them. that pamper his grandchildren like「is that so? really?」.

Q: I get it  (laughing)

Aki-P : Perhaps in the adults of Sony Music also think, for an idol to must have a long black hair, is a weird rule. But those girls wanted to live like what they want, because they think like 「boku wa iya da」(lyric spoken in Fukyuwaon), things like confrontation and times of discord also happened. Because of that image, the song 「fukyuwaon」 was born. Of course as you see it, due to when writing it the life sized worldview is finished, it feels like a deformed, a caricature or something, but because the starting point was something that is inside the girls, the completed lyric isn't wrong.

Q: while continue listening this conversation, Akimoto-san isn't an adult that is 'above' the members, but the one 'floating between' instead.

Aki-P : Inside of me there's no idea like 「this group has this kind of color, so this way of doing things is not good」 at all. As for the members, other than things you should never do as a person, I think it's okay to do things freely. But considering the people that directly manage Keyakizaka, instruction and guidance has to be done. That's why the clashing image of Keyakizaka vs adults is able to be born. Each thoughts spoken by the others are often happened. I also wrote some of the lyrics with「this is how the girls are speaking their opinion」style, conversely thing like saying「this is what the adults are trying to say」to the girls in LINE also happened. My job as producer of this group is, to stand and to interpret between members and adults, there's a feeling like that. maybe, Keyakizaka46 is operated by the members themselves. Somehow just like an executive committee of the school festival.

Q: Specifically, is it about live stage?

Aki-P : Speaking about live, right now we're thinking about the part of setlist and performance which are centered around Hirate, could also be said as think about different sides. In short, we're being told by Sony Music「Please don't do this」, not only accepting. The decision about go or no go of a school festival are still comes from adults, but the awareness of「in fact that the one that producing the school festival is us」is strong. That's what made it interesting.

A farewell is, a rebirth.

Q: July this year Keyakizaka's 1st album was released, then held all 6 area tour. What's the image that was to look out in the production of this album?

Aki-P : Keyakizaka46's live is really pretty right? Songs in「Masshiro Album」has to be well written because it's a necessity to have new songs for the live. Because there isn't much song that as exciting and uptempo as「Abunakkashi Keikaku」so far.

Q: How about solo song? like line that was written by Hirate-san「Jibun no Hitsugi, youi shiyou/watashi no owari, kiete shimaou (I'm making preparations, for my own coffin/In my end, I will disappear)」I think its an extreme un-idol-like song.

Aki-P : Hirate often said 「I want to vanish from this place.」 Because she's a pure kid she might be tired from human relations, perhaps because of the pressure of always being the center, or maybe it's a girl narcissism. Anyway because I always look over her, I think that everyday we're saying farewell to our past self. Everyday this kid learns about what despair is, what does it feel to have hope, what does she know, and what she threw away. That's what「changing perspective」is, just like skin that is regrow every time, ourselves also reborn as new everyday. 'saying farewell' is of course like being reborn, maybe that girl wants to deliver a message like that. But that's not only limited to Hirate, it could also be words that is directed onto another members or young kids out there.

Q: The feel of songs by Kanji Keyaki and Hiragana Keyaki are different, is it because they have different feel as a group too?

Aki-P : Because Hiragana Keyaki is more like a little sister, I think it's clear. because they can see from a close distance that the older sisters are really worried and troubled, they are slowly putting distance. That's why comparatively to Kanji, there's a lot hiragana's song which had the indifferent feel. But, after arriving later than their older sisters, Hiragana Keyaki also have the feeling that they have to overtake Kanji Keyaki. Whatever new challenges arise,「Soredemo Aruiteru (we'll still walk through)」, that's why i created that song.

Q: In October 2017 the 5th single,「Kaze ni Fukaretemo」was released, and the first words are「That's the way!」, which is really a contrast with「Fukyuwaon」and had a lighter lyric and tone, what's the reason behind it?

Aki-P : When making single, I will gather my musical reference. Roughly, among countless numbers of song candidate, some are selected then the arrangement for those selection will be decided.「Kaze ni Fukaretemo」was selected in an early phase, then I thought let's go with this, I already thought about the image like「(the costume is) pants and necktie」. Then I entrust it to TAKAHIRO and friends, and the perfect whole perspective also inserted into the shooting of music video. In the first day, the lyric was totally different with the final version. no matter how many timesI listen to the temporary lyric it just felt wrong, Then I rewrote it all over again. The next day it caused an uproar among members and staffs.

Q: About the past lyric (of Kazefu), it's closer to「Fukyuwaon」?

Aki-P : I don't really remember, but probably closer to a love song. from that point「Kaze ga fukumama ni motto jiyuu ni ikiyou (as the wind keeps blowing let's live more freely)」was wrote, and then start shifting (to the current lyric). that decision could only be said as a creator's intuition. As for the timing of the single after「Fukyuwaon」, keeping in mind that the girls have walked such long journey, (I thought) now they might want to sing a song like this.

Q: Does this mean like you can let loose one hand (take it easy) maybe it could affect something in a long term?

Aki-P : Logically if you use your head, it's just possible to be predicted. The most important is, how we can take it completely. For example, we are making a temporary single for the next summer, at first I cannot make it good. Furthermore Keyakizaka46  is especially moving unpredictably. I'm also excited to see how those girls will continue to move from now on, I want to interpret the good things that was born from the journey of those girls. translating the energy that those girls brought, that's my role in this group, I think that's the most important job as a producer.

Hirate Yurina Quick Japan Vol. 135 Interview

Hating beautiful things, Want for the honest feelings to reach.

It was never meant as 'I'm in pain.' nor 'I didn't want to do it.' This girl knows the beauty, and the self-demon of a living human being, who cannot be easily cleaned up by those simple words. This girl's name is Hirate Yurina. To whomsoever out there who shoulder the same teen loneliness, same pain-- 'those emotion, get through' and her figure walking in the wilderness of people without crying as much as she can, is too transient, too noble.

Q: I'll be starting with a bit personal questions. This year, you're starting highschool. In your highschool life, what did you enjoy the most?

Techi: I don't know if I could tell that she's a good friend, but I'm able to talk to the kid. When I was with the kids, then I forgot that I had job, I think they said “I'm just a normal highschool kid.”

Q: But I think if you could be confident when you're with them, that's good. Usually, what did you talk with the kids?

Techi: Stuffs about the school.......Very very normal. Things like “That kid, I really liked him, but... what do you think?”, and also love consultations also often happened. I don't know the reason why, but They often consulted their love problems with me (laughing).

Q: Maybe it's because of Hirate-san, they want to consult it with you. Maybe they expect to get good answers from you.

Techi: But I cannot give good advice. Just like 'The way people think is different from one another' or 'isn't it good?' That kind of reply might not really ease their problems but, we're not junior high students anymore, so we should answer those expectation by ourselves way of thinking and that we will be fine that way.... I think.

Q: in reverse, is there any switch to change between natural Keyakizaka and work-mode Keyakizaka?

Techi: how should I put it.... well, there's a lot of things to think about. Sometimes things are heard in talks between members and staffs, the I think like 'Ah, I think so, too' and got a bit curious about it. I might become a bit more sensitive at work.

Q: Can you have a moment to properly relax a bit?

A: I really like strolling around. Between shooting I often idly walking around. I don't like being confined in one site, so occasionally I stroll around with Manager-san. That time, I really like to have some meaningless talks, like, for example “If Hirate-san is going to be reincarnated, what do you want to be?” “maybe dandelion~”, really talks without any meaning (laughing). Maybe that's the time I feel really relaxed.

'What do you know about me?'

Q: This year Keyakizaka appeared in the national arena tours, also the Fes and events, with a very fierce performances. Isn't that really harsh physically and mentally?

Techi: That has been asked a lot. But we don't feel any bother doing performances fiercely. We said that we want to do it. There are times when our physical condition couldn't keep up, too. When 'ROCK IN JAPAN 2017', I suddenly thought I'd ask staffs, 'Water please, I want to wear hat.' Because it was really hot, but because we need to get fired up that was not a right time...that time I really think ‘I wanna wear a hat' (laughing).

Q: In the last national arena tour, you solo performed 'Jibun no Hitsugi.' The figure of Hirate-san that strummed the guitar while singing, and engulfed by flame is really beyond the word of impactful.

Techi: Actually, there's something that I had thought before. But that level of performance would make the venue couldn't be used for the next performance (laughing). At first, I will get into a coffin, then the coffin will be burned. Meanwhile when I was inside the coffin I will change into Fukyuwaon costume. Then afterwards I will come out of the coffin tattered up, then continue to perform. (That way) I didn't just wanna perform flashily, but after I thought hard, that's how I thought the song had to be shown. I thought that it would be better to play the guitar by myself, and I played it properly.

Q: How do you share that brilliant and crisp image with the staff?

Techi: When I heard the song, the image of myself being engulfed in flame came. Then I searched pictures that quite close to the image in the internet and send them. I always send everything without any logical reasoning in context at all and saying 'How 'bout this?' But a reply came (laughing).

Q: Is it the same with live performances and the album 'Masshiro mono wa Yogoshitaku Naru', how's the production process?

Techi: This year, the feeling of wanting to deliver songs has become very strong. For that reason, our visual, as well as design, song order, all of it should be ideally designed so it's not only music that will be delivered. We always thought about how this song should be performed on stage, but that alone is bad, I think. I told (the staff) that I want the handwritten 'Getsuyoubi no asa, skirt wo kirareta' lyric inserted in the end of the album.

Q: Why, especially that song, you want to be included in the album?

Techi: I'm a bit loss in explaining my feeling at that time, because it will not really connected to the album. Because the song that mostly represent the album is 'Getsuyoubi~', the main protagonist of the song's that had the strong feeling of 'wanting to be delivered' is 'What do you know about me?' like the lyric, so it was inserted.

Q: The thing that Hirate-san really wanted to convey is clearly visible, right.

Techi: That's right. For example the setlist, roughly, a month or two before a live, we will share the theme we want to tell and then decide the order of the songs. TAKAHIRO-san's presence is really big in this process. In MV or Album's visual, we were directed by and worked with similar director and cameraman, so I think that really helps. We were blessed.

Q: Often when talking about the focal point of Keyakizaka46 and Hirate-san's expression, I think the remark of 'Otona wa shinyoudekinai' often cited, but in reality it doesn't seem like that at all.

Techi: 'Adults cannot be trusted' that I said was.....how do I say it, in work and business, I really hate people with the mindset of 'for now just do it as it is (without any real effort).' It's not talking about people like TAKAHIRO-san and the staff that really bring seriousness and live full-spirited...

Q: I see. Shall I say that 'adults' as a concept cannot be trusted?

Techi: Sometimes in the recording session, my sound wouldn't come out. When that happened, I became really indebted to the Recording Director. As usual when in the album production process, there might be some people that hurriedly do and say 'let's just record it, fast.' But that person said 'It's okay'....He dimmed the light and let me sing, also did the recording with a minimum number of people. All of us with that person also went eat together. We also thought together how to convey the phrase [what do you know about me?] from 'Getsuyoubi~.' The staff also often really understand my thoughts. If theirs was different (with me) It might have been conflicted. I don't hate if the ideas I brought being told like it's not good like this, or that is not quite right, I'm rather glad that way.

'If I'm not lonely, it will not be delivered'

Q: ‘I want to change', you said when you're auditioning for Keyakizaka46. Until now, how positively have you change?

Techi: I didn't think about it at all. How did it come to this....(laughing). But even so I think I wanted the songs to reach. There are also lots of things I think I'm able to do now. Like performances, costumes, camera proportion, etc. After all no matter how many times you watch, it's needless to say that Keyakizaka's image is 'if it's this much, it's still not gonna be delivered.'

Q: Carrying that much of burden alone, isn't it that much lonely?

Techi: I might not consult about it much with the members...but as expected it's becoming lonely. It is becoming lonely but....maybe it's because I'm still 16 years old. If I grew a little bit more, maybe my way of thinking will change too.

Q: So intentionally, there's a part of you that accepted that loneliness?

Techi: If i don't feel lonely, then I wonder if i can deliver (the song's feeling) to a teenager who shared the same feeling. Because of that, it's impossible (to reach) if I didn't force myself to feel the same suffering. Now, I think I should deliver the song so it reaches the kid whose feeling is really painful. Wherever the teenager who feel the same pain are, they have a strong heart.

Q: That feeling, I think it's not only to the kids, but also delivered to the adults as well. It woke up the stinging important feeling inside, I think Keyakizaka46 also had that urgency to convey.

Techi: Is that so! So it is true. People are just forgot about it. I think anyone actually have that kind of emotion somewhere inside their heart. I'm not joining Keyakizaka because I'm supposed to look cool or cute.... I want to honestly express the feeling that human being can, but do not want to peek inside.

Q: It's really delivered. That's why, I think performance from Keyakizaka46's Hirate-san evokes a sincere reaction.

Techi: I want to deliver that much of honesty feeling. It's okay to be lame. Conversely, it's even better if it's really really lame.

Q: You want to deliver the raw emotion, without any indirect expression, I think.

Techi: I hate beautiful things. People that hid something, people that made lies, I hate those dishonest people. I think the fastest way to express it could only be on the national tour's final show. That's why, those people should really watch it.

Q: As expected, you really want to express it directly. In today's interview I personally thought so. Is there anything you wanna say?

Techi: Fufufu (laughing). Actually I kept things I'm thinking daily in a note. But, if one day I wrote a lyric that will still be a secret. I want to say many things (laughing).

Q: I really really want to hear that.

Techi: After secretly announcing it for a long time, then I'll say 'Actually I'm the one that wrote the song'....It might be interesting (laughing).

Imaizumi Yui Anan 2017/12/20 Short Interview

Imaizumi Yui X Fur Muffler

Wearing a burgundy colored fur muffler that is as overflowing with fluffiness as this year, showing a different romantic expression than usual, Imaizumi Yui.

"This winter's fluffy fashion item is in trend! Until now I had many thin clothes, that's why now I often freezing (laughing). The private cloth i worn today, aquamarine-colored fluffy knitted sweater is just bought last week and I really liked it! <3"

Usually wearing pants, "Wearing skirt is refreshing!" she said. Asked, wearing today's outfit, where do you want to go?

"Asakusa! That's the place I really wanna go right now. Truthfully, I've never even once go there... As seen in TV 'ice Tokyo' Roll Ice, freshly baked melon bread, there's a lot of things i wanna eat! I also wanna try riding a jinrikisha~ "

With big, gleaming, shiny eyes, Imaizumi really enjoyed talking about food. Even when her hart becomes cold, if she eat tasty foods, in a moment she will recover!

"Because in winter, sweat doesn't really come out, in order to pump up my metabolism I eat a lot spi~~cy kimchi. But my family doesn't really like spicy food, so I put a lot of spicy chili oil and seven spices blend (shichimitogarashi) in my portion (laughing)."

Members she want to give warmth to: Koike Minami. Because her chest was so white, seems really cold. I want to make her a hot chocolate (laughing)

Anan Close Up Special Talks Watanabe Rika X Nagahama Neru 2017/12/20

Continuing last time, two famous members from keyakizaka46 will have a special talks in commemorating their photobook release. This time is Nagahama Neru's turn to reveal her secret photoshoot story!

Extraordinary 120.000 copies of first edition selling. In the release of Nagahama Neru's photobook.

Pe: Neru-chan, congratulations for your photobook release!

Neru: Thanks~ <3 Because it's after Pe-chan, it's embarrassing.

Pe: talking about neru-chan's photobook, I never knew about it.

Neru: yup. In three months after the release was decided, I never told anyone about it (laughing).

Pe: Neru-chan's photobook was shot in Goto Islands right, I really wanna know about it. Because I always listened neru-chan talking various things about it, I really wanna go there.

Neru: Hm, because I always talk about it, right. So happy~. I also wanna show pe-chan many places there.

Pe: I've been shown neru-chan's photobook, and I really like the cut when neru-chan is relaxing while wearing a yukata (T/N: literally written yuagari, which means a yukata/big towel that used after taking a bath).

Neru: Eh~ It's embarrassing~

Pe: Really envious with those droopy eyes. Somehow I really liked neru-chan's face when neru-chan is laughing crazily.

Neru: It was embarrassing~~ When I saw that photo with the staff I also thought, The expression that I think it's good might be really different with the one that people think good.

Pe: I also thought the same!

Neru: even now, people's reaction is scary (laughing).

Pe: I understood that feeling, but, all of them were cute~~

Neru: But, the swimsuit session was really embarrassing, right. But for a while it's okay. right?

Pe: yup. Me too (laughing).

"Taking the photos locally" was my request.” -Nagahama Neru

Really enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Goto Island.

My first photobook, "Koko kara", was shot in Goto island, where I spent my time from 3 until 7 years old. This was decided when I heard there would be a swimsuit photo session, I wished to take it in beautiful local beach.

Personally I really like the cut where I was riding a bicycle on a usually walked road. Even though I was wearing a school uniform, surprisingly I could have a natural expression which even I never see.

Recommended spot is, the spot where I was wearing a gingham check pattern swimsuit which locally known as 'Hamanna'. It is not even listed in guidebooks, an 'only locals knew' beautiful beach. Though it's only going down the mountain road, without locals guidance you might not arrive (laughing).

Please look at this photobook, I will be happy even if it's just a little more people come to see Goto Island.

Sugai Yuuka Anan 2017/12/20 Short Interview

A horse-riding lover ojousama character, Sugai Yuuka. Boasting a body trained on a saddle since she was little.

"Horse riding is an exercise that uses all muscles, it's surprisingly a hard exercise.To keep my muscles' power, even now I go to the gym and do some aerobic exercises. By training using Stretch Pole, it stimulates brown fat (brown adipose cells) and raises metabolism."

Surprisingly she is a muscle training maniac.

"It's because I have low blood pressure and recent extreme cold temperature. This year is especially cold, since the end of September I already wore winter coat. Even now I applied Cairo in my stomach and my back, coming in full defense."

Even food and lifestyle is currently under massive review.

"Recently I eat a lot of protein from meat, then burn it in my body. In the night I put salt bath in my bath then sweat it all out, put my fluffy socks on, then going to bed. It should be perfect... but I always wake up with one socks off my foot (laughing)."

While showing a bashful smile, "First, I as a captain have to work hard," she said, tightly closing her lips.

The cure for her earnestly hardworking days is her lovely Scottish fold, Tom.

"When Tom is in spoiled child mode, he often slip into my bed. The moment when I feel Tom's warmth closing in when I was sleeping, I thought 'Aah, Cat is a warm season <3 ' then I become happy. Today before I went out, I also bury my face in Tom's tummy. Even when I was riding a horse, I can feel that special warmth of animals. Not only the body, but also the heart become warm."

Q: Member you want to give warmth to? A: Uemura Rina. Though she's so cute, she's really humble. If I am Rina, I will be confident!! In dancing too, she always do her best, I want to pat her head and say 'it was excellent'"

Q: Recently, Is there any moment when your heart becomes colder? A: yesterday, when we were in a comfortable room, I wanted to sit on a chair but I ended up fell with my bottom on the floor, and I was shocked. But the members' had rather weak reaction. Then I shouted 'because it is embarrassing, go on laughing!!' (laughing)."

Hirate Yurina Anan 2017/12/20 Short Interview

Boasting with overwhelming presence, the youngest center, 16 years old Hirate Yurina. If you only look at her nice bare skin, she doesn't seem to feel chilly, but....

"Actually, my body is quite cold. Even when member touch (me) they even shocked and said 'Cold!'. That's why when I was inside or at home, I couldn't take off my fluffy socks."

Even how cold her body is, she firmly warm herself up in her favorite ofuro.

"Though I'm not good with cold, but when I think that a warm bath is waiting at home, I can endure it (laughing). That's how much I like bath! I start with half body bath, then full body bath. In total, it took me 15 minutes to warm my body up.”

So the thing that make Hirate's heart warm is,

"When performing with all members. When everyone is there, it's warm. Because sense of unity is a good feeling. when we formed a circle, everyone's feeling is becoming one and it helps raising our tension to the top!"

When you take a peek under the face of a center that pulled the group, her real face is that a cheerful high school girl. When she talked about a heartwarming surprise from her fellow member, she enjoyed it very much.

"My birthday was in June but yesterday Yukkaa said "Techi, I know this is late, but happy Birthday" while giving me a Minion pen set and a make-up brush. "It was really late!!" I thought (laughing), But I feel happy."

Q: Member you want to give warmth to? A: Uemura Rina. she's small and cute. I often go and play with her, play holding each other's weight until bruised. somehow, i want to flirt with her a little.

Q: Recently, Is there any moment when your heart becomes colder? A: When we was doing rehearsal for 'Music Station', the choreo was changed a bit, so we need to be careful not to make mistake. But Sugai made a mistake at once. "Mou!" I said then (laughing)."

— It seems opportunities of gravure photosoots are increasing, do you get used to it? Kato: I still can't get used to it (lol). But to be able to have those photoshoots are awesome. So I want to have more to polish my skills.

— Is there anything you're working on? Kato: I do face yoga. eventhough i intend to laugh by myself but it became a serious face instead, I'm exercising my facial muscle.

— I think today, those efforts are showing its results. recently keyakizaka46 (hiragana typed) and Kato-san personally, are gaining notable attention. Kato: Eeeh~! But it's true, recently everyday felt so productive. That's why whenever i get massaged i thought it seems i've worked hard. — Do you have an image of ideal idol? Kato: I want to be an idol who have powerful performance. I want to have expressive power to attract people's eyes like hirate-san.

— So you admired Hirate-san. But you are Nagasawa-san Oshi right? Kato: I really like naako-chan!

— In the first place, why do you like Nagasawa-san? Kato: Before I entered Keyakizaka, I watched [Keyakake] haunted house episode, there I fell in love at first sight....

— That's not a performance, right (lol). Kato: Aah. But i learned a lot from Naako-chan.

— What did you learn from her? Kato: Once, on Zenkoku Akhushukai (Nationwide Handshake Event) we should make pairs, and that time, I was impressed seeing her until the very end, the very last, shake fans' hands one by one without releasing. Nagahama Neru Interview (Brody August 2017)

In my head exists shapes that only me understand, then do trial and error, when I feel [Eureka!] is the most fluttering moment.

「showing personality yet reduced aesthetics.」

— Nagahama-san, since you were little you already had experience in flower arranging, right. Nagahama: That's right. Ever since i was little my mom had me taught. When I was about 4-5 years old we took the class together. Until now (we and) the flower arranging Sensei still become close friends. I really think value like that is also inherently exists in flower arranging. On the high school cultural festival I thought I wanna see and join the flower arranging club, but unfortunately before I enter the club was abolished. That's why today I was passionately using my experience, so exciting!  

— In your daily life, are there always flowers around you? Nagahama: In my parents' house, many flowers were planted because my grandmother did gardening. But in Tokyo, flowers are rarely seen that's why I bring along cactus from Nagasaki to be raised. Then to feel the flower season, when I see flowers on the roadside I often take photos of it.

— Anyone who lives in Tokyo would say the only seasonal flower in Tokyo is Sakura. Nagahama: Honestly I think so. In nagasaki, Daffodils (Suisen), Balloon Flowers (Kikyou), and Sweet Olive Tree (kinmokusei) bloomed, but in Tokyo it's really rare to see them I think.

— When you came to Tokyo, how do you feel the season? Nagahama: (by) The atmosphere. When i woke up in the morning, I opened the window and in the winter it's cold, Summer is bathed with humidity. I felt like it was summer when I saw thunder clouds. Only with flower arranging alone, I felt cooler.

— Certainly. By the way, What is your favorite flower? Nagahama: Baby's Breath (Kasumikusa). But lately I'm interested in blue-colored flower. What was the meaning of Baby's Breath again?

— AFAIK Baby's breath meant [Pure heart, innocence, kindness, happiness] Nagahama: Lovely! One day, I was looking about Flower language and deeply into it, the flowers that showed up unexpectedly on novels and movies, flowers that meant betrayal, I thought it was really interesting.

— I see. Talk about flower arranging again, I think today Nagahama-san really had a sense in picking a pot and flowers for flower arranging. What kind of image and points you see when you picked them? Nagahama: No, none at all. Because I'm really indecisive, imaginative, and puzzled, in picking things I liked.

— And you thought about that while you're doing picking things. Doing things wholeheartedly is good isn't it. Nagahama: No no no. The truth is, I'm quite boyish (lol). Sensei once said 「(your) Flower Arranging's aesthetics was reduced」 but gradually it is refined, and I think in the end what remains is my ability to show beauty. I myself, try to put the smallest room as possible, Because I didn't like too mixed things, Maybe it was found also in my personality (lol).

— Your concentration is also amazing. Nagahama: No no, not really.

— For real? Sensei said 「Creating a thing needs really high concentration」 but today you made 3 things continuously, I think it is really amazing. Nagahama: Of course I poured my energy in making them, but continue making it is really fun!

— Sensei be like, 「I'd like you to pass through this class」 Nagahama: Yes, I want to do it! I want to continue as a hobby!

— Which part is the most exciting for you? Nagahama: I liked when I made shapes (designed the flower arrangements) in my head. Whether it is flower arranging or interior design, in my head I imagined things only I can understand then I expressed it. It was fun because usually it didn't happen much. Doing some trial and error, and then that 「Eureka!」 moment comes throbbing. Then by really focused on flower arranging, all other thoughts disappeared, really suited for a change of pace.

— After I hear such explanation, I thought probably Nagahama-san really has it to be an artist. Nagahama: No no no (lol). In this series I could challenge many many various things, it was really fun. Many things to be talked in the handshake event, after doing tea ceremony [you could do tea ceremony too], someone said to me. That became a common topic to talk about with people, it made me happy.

— After passed Keyakizaka46 audition and decided to do it, do you made yourself a vow? Watanabe: A vow.... i wonder what...

— Anything is fine. Watanabe: ...............I think i'm gonna give it my all.

— Up until now, do you think the time you spent for Keyakizaka's activity is the most hectic? Watanabe: yes, it is.

— is there any bitter period in your life? Watanabe: Almost no, probably...... Ah, job hunting was bitter....Fufufufu.

— Do you think is there any of your personality that changed after joining Keyakizaka? Watanabe: Ummm, I think there is.

— How does it changed? Watanabe: Ummm, how do i say it........Fufufufufu.....i don't know.

— But somehow there's something changed in you, right Watanabe: Yes.

— when you're still in school and also when you joined Keyakizaka, do your position in the group did not change? Watanabe: I think not.

— When you're still in school, how were your social position? are you in the outgoing, cool kids or are you a lonewolf? Watanabe: Probably the middle kids.

— Ah-- surely the runway debut? Watanabe: Yes.

— How do you feel when you're walking on the runway? Watanabe: At first i felt like I don't want to do it. Because I think it was absolutely impossible. But, after it was done, I felt really excited.

— The first time experience in modeling industry fortunately made your dream stronger, is there any feeling like that? Watanabe: Yes.

All-time high mysterious girl whose normally speak so little and the chance to know her is limited. Because of it, then BRODY is determined to do 10.000 character interview challenge!!

Part 1: 「Tears Lining Her Cheek, Behind The scenes of Her Passionate Acting」

— This time for the first time in history, we will try do the 10.000 character interview with Watanabe-san! Watanabe: Fufufufu.

— Thank you for your cooperation! Watanabe: Please take care of me.

— First let's talk about recent things. Have you finished「Zankokuna Kankyakutachi」 drama shooting? Watanabe: Yes.

— How was it compared to 「Tokuyama Daigoro o dare ga koroshita ka」? Watanabe: It was fun.

— How do you feel about the atmosphere in the shooting location? Watanabe: Umm....atmosphere..... it was fun.

— Watanabe-san's acting in 「TokuDare」 was really popular wasn't it? Watanabe: Fufufufufu.
