*Nightmares*
Kharina stirred in her sleep. Images of fire and sounds of screaming filled her mind. She felt a hand on her shoulder and opened her eyes to see Uchikan standing over her a worried expression on his face that quickly faded. "You were screaming in your sleep." he explained turning and retreating back to the other side not giving her time to ask what he was doing. She pulled her knees to her chest and leaned her head against the wall not wanting to fall back asleep. "Im Sorry.." she whispered after some time not sure if he would even hear. "I was having a nightmare."
"Who is Khatine?" He asked breaking the silence and startling her.
Surprised by the question she looks up to see him sitting on the ground next to her. She frowns realizing she must have been talking in her sleep. Nearly choking on the words she replied "Khatine was the woman who raised me. She...was killed in an attack on our home years ago along with the rest of my family." Her hand shook as she ran her fingers along the burn scars on her leg. "This is all I have left to remember them by. Everything was destroyed," She looked back at him to see anger filling his face. An anger that would not be explained tonight but instead he stood and reached out his hand to her and she took it hesitantly. As her hand reached his he pulled her up from where she sat and wrapped one of his arms around her. An odd feeling of safety overcame her as she placed her arms around him. He then efortlessly picked her up and sat where she had been before and put her down in his lap with his arm still around her. She laid her head against his chest and closed her eyes. "You are very warm." She whispered to him feeling his chest rise and his breath against the back of her neck.
Kharina woke and began to sit up but stopped as soon as she realized she wasnt alone. Uchikan's arm was draped over her side and he was laying behind her. She could feel the warmth radiating from him and closed her eyes again. Maybe this was a good sign. Maybe just maybe...if they could work together..they could get out of here.

*Meeting Him*
"You! Were you following me?!" The man in the corner did not respond. In fact he didnt move at all. Was he concious? Was he alive? Where even was she. This wasnt the same place as before and it wasnt AuRa's that took them. Over the next month she was afraid and trapped in a dungeon with this stranger and didnt know if they would ever escape. He was different and never spoke leaving her to assume the worst with each passing day. Kharina awoke startled to a loud groan followed by a hard cough. She turned her gaze to the man in the corner. Since they had arrived he had still not said a word but she continued to study him. His skin had began to flush to a pale color and she had caught a glimpse of his eyes just once. One was a dull red and the other seemed a dark red almost black. She had never seen this before and was curious..but not enough to ask him. "You...look terrible." She said without thinking. She stood up and walked carefully towards him and reached up and placed the back of her hand on his forehead. "You have a fever." The stranger flinched at her touch and shook his head. "Dont" he grumbled and looked away. "If we are going to be stuck here together..could you at least tell me your name." "and what would you do with my name? Its not going to get either of us out of here.” Kharina didnt answer but instead walked back to the other side and sat down in her normal spot. His breathing seemed shallow and his voice was deep but soft. He was way warmer than a normal fever.. How long would he last?
As time went on his condition only seemed to worsen and being here was starting to take its toll on her as well. She was forgetting what the outside felt like.. and she could feel her strength beginning to fade. The stranger stood up and began pulling at the bars and the noise he made seemed almost like a low growl. She walked over to him and placed her hand on his. "That isnt going to help.. but I agree we need to find a way out of here. Also I'm Kharina." He glared at her a moment and without word picked her up and pushed her against the bars. "What makes you think you can touch me?"f it weren't for you I wouldnt be here!" he growled. "I...Im sorry. I just...can tell you arent well..and yanking on the bars isnt going to help us get out of here. Neither is you ignoring me and pretending you are okay when you are clearly ill! Put me down!" Normally Kharina was quiet and shy but there was something about this man that made her nervous and put her on edge. He let her go and watched her drop to the floor. "Thats none of your buisness and can't be helped." Frustrated with the man she huffed "It is my buisness if I am to be stuck in here with you one second longer. At least stop being so hostile and tell me your name." "My name is Uchikan, Now leave me alone and be silent." Kharina sat back on the other side of the cell watching Uchikan, her blood still boiling from being dropped onto the floor. Who was this man and why did he make her so angry.

*Wandering*
Kharina spent the next few days wandering the streets of Uldah. She had seen no sign of either of the Xaela that had let her out of the prison. Was she truly on her own again? After a long day of wandering she decided to stop in town for a drink. As she grew closer to the doors of the quicksand she could hear loud voices and laughter from within. She took a seat at the bar close the the doors and ordered herself a whiskey. She sipped it slowly and looked around the room. She had never seen so many people in one place before and questioned if she would be safe here or not. While there was more of a chance to run into someone from the prison...there was also a chance of blending in with the crowds. As Kharina finished her drink she took one last glance around the room and began to make her exit. Walking towards the door she almost tripped over a small miqote sitting on the floor and caught herself on a nearby gentleman. "S..sorry." She stammered looking up at the tall AuRa she had fell into. He didnt speak but the look in his eyes were words enough. She turned quickly and sprinted out of the tavern and towards the central gates. She continued out the gates and stopped at a bridge to catch her breath.
Tumblr media
Suddenly she heard loud screaming behind her and turned just in time to see three large men running towards her on the bridge. One grabbed her from behind. She kicked and screamed "Let me go! HELP!" and she kicked she saw more men running towards them. Were they coming to help her or them? Before reaching the bridge they stopped and run to the side of it and watched as the begin to drag a rather large AuRa male from underneath the bridge. "What are you doing let us go!" She barked at them. "Shut up whore!" One yelled and a hood was thrown over her head. Her hands were bound together by rope and she was lead by it.. she couldnt see where they were going. They came to a halt and she was picked up and tossed onto a wooden surface. She heard the gravel shift and they began to move. She was in a wagon..where were they taking them? Sometime during the trip she fell asleep...when she woke up..she began to panic as she open her eyes. All she could see was bars...she was once again in a cage. She looked around and sitting on the far end of the room in the same cage was the man from the tavern that she had fell into. How was he involved inthis? Was he from her tribe and she just didnt recognise him..or was he one of them here just to trick her?

*Reaching the City*
Kharina trudged down a small trail exausted and filthy from the sand she kicked up as she walked. Soon she came to a small fork in the road. She looked both ways and the town in the distance to the left seemed far still. To the right she could see a gate that looked like the entrance to a small outpost or camp. "Maybe thats where I will find Dorgen and the others" she thought to herself.  As she made her way through the gates and down some steps she could see market stalls and  covered wagons. She had no money or belongings to her name except for a small dagger she had found in the mineshafts on her way out. She looked around some more but there were no Xaela that she could see.
Tumblr media
She decided to stay till nightfall and then make her way to town once it was cooler but until then she would need a place to hide in case others were still looking for her. She began to walk out the gates when a stranger called to her. "Headed to Uldah are we miss?" She turned to see an older gentleman next to one of the wagons smiling at her. She nodded "Y..yes.. I will be going to the city on the other end of this road." The old mans expression changed as if in deep thought. "I am about to head that way to drop off some supplies if you would care to join me." He held out his hand in welcome. Kharina walked back over to him "Th-that would be wonderful. I was planning on waiting till nightfall so that it was cooler." He took her hand and helped her into the back of the wagon and then loaded a few crates. He climed into the back with her and yelled "Ready when you are" and before she could see who he was talking to there was a "Kweh!" and the birds attached to the wagon began to move. She could hear the dirt and rocks grinding against the wooden wheels as the left the camp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They contined for some time in silence accompanied by two others who didnt speak but softly to eachother. As they grew closer to Uldah she could make out the city better. It was alot different than home. The buildings were tall and she soon she could hear the noise of people talking coming from the enterance.
Tumblr media
Just before they reached the gates the wagon came to a halt and the old man stood and made he way to the rear of the cabin. Two younger well built men walked around the wagon and began to grab the crates. She stood slowly and walked over to the end of the cab and sat down and scooted off the end. She had been sitting so long she didnt want to try and jump out and fall and embarrass herself.
Tumblr media
She thanked the man and asked his name but he waved his hand “think nothing of it.." She began walking to the gates and braced herself for what was on the other side. She had no way of knowing if she would be safe. She had still not found Dorgen or seen another Xaela.
Tumblr media
As she passed through the gates she noticed there were gaurds everywhere but not like the ones from the prison. The streets were crowded with traders and different sorts of people. Surely she would be able to blend in here until she could figure out how to meet up with the others.

*Escaping to Nowhere*
Kharina awoke abruptly from her sleep by the sounds of running down the corridor and shouting that she could hardly understand. It must have been dark because there wasnt much light in the room and she could barely make out shadows. In front of her cell stood Baidur with what seemed to be a grin on his face. "Dont think that you will be escaping as well. The few that have managed to get out of their cells will be dealt with soon enough so just go back to sleep." He let out a deep laugh and walked farther into cell and pushed the door to where just one more push would snap it shut. "Why wont you just tell the truth about your identity. We both know you are not who you say you are. You can play innocent with Dorgen all you would like but I can see right through your lies"  He said grinning through his teeth. Kharina took a few steps back as she realized he was still moving closer to her. She didnt like the way he was looking at her and she could still barely see inside the cell and though unclear she wasnt about to wait to find out its intent. Kharina took another step back and as she did she heard the sound of the door open once more. Baidur began to say something but before he could get out the words two Xaela males grabbed him and shoved him into the wall. "What are you waiting for? RUN!" One shouted towards her. Snapping out of her shock she stumbled towards the door. "Th..thank you!" "You can thank me once we are out of here! Theres no time for that now go!"
Kharina ran out the door of the cell and had no idea which way was out .. she took a left down a long corridor and kept running. As she rounded a corner she quickly stopped. She could see Baidur just in the distance standing talking to a few Xaela. She turned to run but before she got far she heard him shout "Kharina come back! This way!" Was she supposed to go back? She didnt know if she could trust him. He was the reason she was still in here. She had to take the risk. If she went back the way she came she could run into Baidur or the two Xaela. What if they were the ones that had killed her family? She quickly made the decision to go back to Dorgen. As she reached him he hugged her. She didnt understand what was happening. "Im sorry that theres no time to explain. I need you to go with these two men. They will lead you safely out of here and to a camp where I will meet you later. I have to make sure the rest get out safely."
Kharina said nothing. Mostly because she was confused as to who she could trust if anyone at all. She followed the Xaelas through a few hallways and climed down a ladder into a tunnel. They lit a few torches and continued their walk. It looked like an old abandoned mine. There were tracks and rusty carts. They soon reached a dead end with another ladder. She climed up the ladder and pushed up on a board at the top. She climed to the top of the ladder into what felt like fire. It was so hot and she could barely see because it was so bright. She was used to being in the dark cell now. She tried to look around for anything familiar but all she could see in front of her was miles of dirt and trees.
“Where are we?” She asked looking back towards the Xaela behind her. But there was no one there. She walked back a bit and she couldnt even find the way to the ladder anymore. They must have replaced the board and the sand was coverin it.  She looked around once more her eyes starting to adjust to the light but still she saw nothing but dirt and cactus, a few trees here and there. What looked to possibly be a town in the distance. This looked nothing like home. “WHERE AM I!?” She screamed out into the desert.

*Meeting her kidnapper*
Dorgen walked down the halls of his prison with anger in his eyes. Since the attacks on more and more people from the Avagnar tribes have been fleeing to Kahkol Iloh or for the borders of Yanxia and the Red Sea to go into hiding. Families were being torn apart and people were missing. Now all he could do was fill more cells and hope for something or someone to come along and change things for the better. He hoped it would happen before the attacks started again.
As he continued down the hall he ran into one of his prison guards, Baidur.
"We found a woman in one of the houses in the Onsal Hakair. Shes pretty young, looks to be about eighteen or so. I've never seen her before though so we thought we would bring her in. We figured she must be another from the north" he said. "Good, has she said anything since you brought her in?" "No, she just woke up a little while ago and we thought you might want to talk to her first and see if you recognise her."
Dorgen followed followed Baidur to the cell that held the new prisoner and stopped outside the door. "Hey could you go fill in for me over in the west wing. I'm supposed to be making rounds right now. We wouldn't want them to think our security is low." "Sure boss. Just call me if you need me for anything." "Thanks I owe you one." Dorgen said patting Baidur on the shoulder.
As Baidur turned the corner Dorgen unlocked and opened the door to the new prisoners cell. "Whats your name and where are you from?" "Why should I tell you anything. You killed my family!" She yelled crying out of fear. "You will answer me or I will leave you in here to rot!" He shouted back at her. She closed her eyes and wiped her face. Crying would do her no good and would only show her weak. "M-my name is Kharina." She managed to stay her voice low and raspy. "Who are your parents?" "My parents are Namalese and Vhiktor" Dorgen laughed mockingly. "That's funny. Now tell me the truth." "That is the truth I swear. What is this place and why am I here?" "I know Vhiktor and I know for a fact that Nemalese only had one child. A boy by the name of Rhanar. So save your lies for someone else. Do I look stupid to you or something?" "Yes its true. Nemalese only had one child. I was found and taken in when I was a baby. Nemalese and Vhiktor are my parents. They may not be my birth parents but they are my parents." "I don't believe you and seeing as they are gone I have no way of knowing if its true. Lets see... If you are really from this area you will be able to tell me all about it. First question, what was the name of leader Malrek's only daughter?" Kharina  looked down, "I don't know but I swear I'm from here." "Your lying, and for that you will just have to stay here. I hope whatever you were doing in that house was worth it."
Kharina began to protest but as she did Dorgen walked out and slammed the door behind him.
Dorgen walked a few cells down and called Baidur back. “She claims to be Vhiktor's daughter. Do you recall Vhiktor ever having a daughter?” “I know he has a son but I've never heard anything about a daughter.” "Thats what I thought. Leave her in there for a day or two maybe her story will change.” Dorgen then walked out leaving Baidur to his work.
Six months had passed since the man had came in and asked her who she was. He had come back only once since then and asked the same questions. When her story didn't change he only grew more angry and decided she belonged there. "I have to get out of here" she whispered to herself, "but how?" She rarely was let out of her cell and the only time she saw anyone else is when they slipped her food through a slot in the door. How was she supposed to get out of here and where was even "here"? If she managed to escape how would she even find her way and where would she go? She had nothing left but a pendant from her past and a ring that she couldnt remove.

*Home*
I sat by the fire listening to my mother and father tell me the story of how I became part of their family. The story has been retold to me several times by my step father. It was a cold icy day and I lay in the snow alone, bare, and not even a day old. I had been left there by my mother, by my father and I have no idea why. What did I do that was so bad that they would desert me this way? That was sixteen years ago. I still dont know today who my real mother and father are and if they are even alive. I was found that day by a couple of Mages who took me in and raised me as their own daughter. The only clue I have to who I really am is a small pendant that was found with me. A small dark stone with hues of blue and red.  By the age of five I began showing signs that I too was a Mage and by the age of ten I had mastered all the skills and more. I had learned to combine the skills of magic and archery. The woods have been very quiet the last few months. We have stopped receiving news from nearby camps. Today a group of Xaela came into our camp and demanded to speak with my father the leader of our camp. My brother and I were told to go train and not to worry. It was a rather windy day in the pains and the grass reached up to my knees making it harder to walk. This weekend was the first hunt that I was going to be allowed on and I still wasnt very good with a sword. I pulled my sword and swung it at my brother who blocked it with his own. He never went easy on me and I didnt expect him to. The sounds of our swords clanking together werent enough to drown out the sounds to come. Mid swing a shrieking cry could be heard from the camp. Startled I dropped my sword and looked back towards where the sound came from. The sky above was filled with smoke and you could see flame crawling across some of the rooftops. My brother and I ran as fast as we could back to the camp but by the time we got there it was too late. You could barely see through the smoke and the room our father had been in was no longer standing. We turned and ran to our home to hopefully find our mother. We searched room to room but there was no sign of her. Soon there were footsteps at the front door and we went to see who it was. When we came into the room there stood two large male xaelas from before. Upon seeing us they headed toward us and we ran into the back room. My brother opened a compartment in the floor and shoved me into it and told me to be quiet. I could hear the fighting above us and I could hear the thump of his body hit the floor. I could do nothing but sit helpless. I could hear whispering but not make out what was said and retreating footsteps. Just when I thought I was safe things got much worse. Soon the compartment became filled with smoke and I realzed that they had only left to set the place on fire. Flames began to crawl through the floorboards. I could feel the heat against my leg and had no choice but to come out. Slowly I crawl out of the room and take a look around. As I move around I can see outside the open door. A pile of bodies lay burning in the distance. I began to run out the door towards choking and coughing but as I stepped out of the door I was grabbed by a hooded man. He must have knocked me out because the next thing I knew I was in a room with a small window too far up to see out of and only one door out. When I tried to open the door it was locked. I tried to use my magic to get out but it wouldn't work. No magic worked here. Then I noticed it, a ring on my right hand. On it was carved the words “I bind thee”. I tried to take it off but it wouldn't budge. I was more scared now than I had been in the small space in the floor. The only light in the room was from the small window and crack under the door. In the room there was a bed on one side and a toilet in the corner. This was a prison. @kharinaavagnar
